so have a few different things Im looking to pickup when they undue the bs of them raising prices prior to bf then lowering it to the normal price again to make it seem theres a sale. waiting to see if one of these 2 drop to previous lower prices Ive seen. $215 for the 5900x (now $260) and 5950x also was sold at a decently lower price just a month ago

building my current build with 5600x I scraped by and got a piece of junk mb b550m aorus elite (elite my a**) and both cpu are listed as compatible, im wondering what limitations I may run in to? any chance of a minor oc or will the vrm not handle it? air cooled thermaltright something spirit 140. I may get an aio whhen summer comes but for now not worried with thermals in winter coming. I can blast the side of the case with a desk fan but could be that doesnt matter as the

curious if youre waiting for some sale with BF?

5950x has been holding steady around $350 for awhile now. If you see one for $300 I would jump on that for that price but 7950x dipped to $400 briefly on Amazon not too long ago so it's possible it would dip again this holiday season. That is a much better deal for only $50 more than average. I notice 7950x changes in price a lot so if you see it for $400 jump right on right away it since 9950x probably isn't going to dip below $580 for at least 18 months if you are looking for a deal.

5900x for $215 seems like a worthy deal.

The motherboard might be ok if you're not OC'ing that CPU. I'm assuming True Phase means good.

For comparison I have a crappy 3 phase running 3950x just fine. What keeps it alive is the not completely garbage heatsink and I run it at stock only.

5950x was at $298 around a month ago. I wasnt looking then. I was trying to eye used 3090 so I didnt juggle well

7950x isnt an option as that means new mb and ram. im always last to the party. when everyone moves to a new platform, im looking for deals for old stuff. even if I had tons of money I would never buy newest stuff. I really love getting good deals and not paying the premium price. companies hate me. I always wait some years but try to get the flagship item at the time. so in 4 years ill start to look for 9950x. and usually I wont sell anything I have. ill use it till it dies out or pass it to someone.

still curious if my po-trash mb can do any OC. I guess well find out hahaha

so are you eyeing anything for BF "sales"? haha

I'm always looking (but I took a break for a few weeks)

There are several models of aorus elite so be sure you are looking at the correct model.

It will run. VRMs might run hot and clocks might throttle, which is what I saw while testing some lower AM4 boards with 5950X. ECO mode is useful.

I gave my old 3900XT to my brother and he runs it on a B450M Steel Legend - known for its weaksauce VRM. You probably won't get great clocks out of it, and the VRM will run hot - but limit the clock speed a little and it will work just fine. But a better purchase for you would be the 5700X3D, you will get the full performance out of it and it will run games better.

I got a 5950x on a b450 board on apparently 4 phase vrm on that list. If you put a fan on vrm area and dont get crazy with playing with it will be alright.

almost all the modern boards are built well for anything

As long as someone doesn't stick it in a hotbox and run in 100% for hours and hours it should be fine for sure.

5950X seems to be 310EUR at its lowest here. Though probably not worth upgrading from 5800X.

Yeah, my inferior B550 DS3H had a 3950X in it for a year or so and that was being rinsed with VMs running simulations at 142W all day every day for months.

I had a Wraith Prism on it, with the speed selector set to low for a quieter fan - both CPU and VRMs were fine, likely because the Wraith is a down-blowing cooler that pushes plenty of air past the VRM heatsink, if you can even call this flat slab of metal a VRM heatsink... ;)

So damn stupid that them heatsinks today are made with aesthetetics first, functionality second. No fins (at least not much) to increase the surface area or anything.

Also had a box of condoms say the same thing :ohwell:

I gave my old 3900XT to my brother and he runs it on a B450M Steel Legend - known for its weaksauce VRM. You probably won't get great clocks out of it, and the VRM will run hot - but limit the clock speed a little and it will work just fine. But a better purchase for you would be the 5700X3D, you will get the full performance out of it and it will run games better.
I cant get the x3d as I need it for video editing with a bit of editing 65/35. you mean limit stock speeds or just a bit of oc speeds?

ill blast the side with a big 200mm fan, should help. that 9950x3d looks like the best for both worlds. cant wait to get it in 4 years hahahaha
5900XT is worth considering also it's ballpark 5950X performance.
never knew it existed. thanks so much. let me see reviews. I mostly need for video editing, and a bit of gaming but I play old games 1440p and dont need more then 60fps. but let me check. why is there even the xt?
I got a 5950x on a b450 board on apparently 4 phase vrm on that list. If you put a fan on vrm area and dont get crazy with playing with it will be alright.

almost all the modern boards are built well for anything
will put a 200mm fan on the side (mod it with door off but hang it with zip ties to the side of the frame. should be ok. soon well know

I cant get the x3d as I need it for video editing with a bit of editing 65/35. you mean limit stock speeds or just a bit of oc speeds?

Limit it at around 120 W tops. 5900XT is good pick since it also has 16 cores, then.

It will run. VRMs might run hot and clocks might throttle, which is what I saw while testing some lower AM4 boards with 5950X. ECO mode is useful.

ill mod with a 200mm side fan with zip ties no door. should be ok.
I got a 5950x on a b450 board on apparently 4 phase vrm on that list. If you put a fan on vrm area and dont get crazy with playing with it will be alright.

almost all the modern boards are built well for anything
ill put a 200mm fan on the side held with zip ties should be ok for a minor oc perhaps?
5950X seems to be 310EUR at its lowest here. Though probably not worth upgrading from 5800X.
I have a 5600x and I need it for editing. 5950x 5900xt 5900x is significant over 5600x

I have a 5600x too, its just as good to get the job done.

I have 3x 200mm fans in my case nothing get hot. Great choice for a fan size.

What's the problem with VRM? Has HS=would work ok lol
