Hello

I´ve been asked in a post a while , thought my GPU was bad

But already replaced mobo , gpu and psu as well yet i have a random white vga light that prevents the PC from posting randomly

Replaced my sata ssd for a m2 one and still the same white light preventing post

at this point i´m 100% sure it isn´t the gpu the root problem

What else could cause this ? i´m pretty sure the hardware is 100% functional but sometimes it refuses to post

I have a bluetooth dongle ( orico ) , could it have gone bad and cause this randomly?

the usb devices connected to my pc are : bluetooth dongle , logitech mouse g305 ( with the usb dongle connected to the extender supplied by logitech ) , redragon keyboard and a hs65 surround corsair headset

my pc is connected to a line filter (quality one) and my monitor is a lg ultragear 24 inches 144hz ( i use a 90 degrees adapter to connect the display port cable )

i have a tv connected to the pc as well with a hdmi cable

i don´t know what else could cause this , what can i try to solve it ?

thanks

at this point i think i only have to replace the dp and hdmi cables maybe?

But does it try? That is, when you press the power button, does the computer always start to boot, then intermittently fail to pass POST? Or does it some times do absolutely nothing when you press the power button?

If you have more than 1 stick of RAM, take one out and see what happens. Then swap sticks to hopefully through a process of elimination see which one, if one, is bad.

If all RAM sticks appear good, then if me, I would take everything out of the case and assemble the computer on a large, unfinished wooden bread/cutting board and see what happens. While everything is out, verify you don't have an extra standoff in the case and there is only a standoff where there is a corresponding motherboard mounting hole.

If it works consistently outside the case, and there are no extra standoffs, then your power switch may be the problem. If your case has a reset button, you can swap the wires from the reset button and attach them to the motherboard where the power switch wires went. Then use the Reset button as your power button from now on.

it always turns on with the fans working etc

I´ve tested all 4 sticks with memtest86 and they all pass

my motherboard first checks cpu , ram , vga then boot

all of them pass but sometimes it gets stuck in the vga light

it doesn´t mean the vga is bad but it can´t proceed further to the boot light and get to windows

but i mean yes , it always gets power

i don´t know what else can be , i suspect the Bluetooth dongle maybe

it is not something to do with monitor being on first then powering the PC as it boots fine without any display connected to it as well ( just tested )

Software-based RAM diagnostic tools are good but none are 100% conclusive. If they report any errors, even one, the RAM is bad. But on rare occasion they will report no problems, yet the RAM still fails in use, and/or when paired with other RAM. So, swapping in all new RAM is often the best test. But of course, not everyone has a bunch of spare RAM laying around. This is why I suggested running with just a single RAM stick to see if it fails. Repeat process with remaining sticks, hopefully identifying the bad stick through a process of elimination. Just be sure to unplug the computer from the wall and touch bare metal of the case interior BEFORE reaching for the RAM to discharge any destructive static in your body.

Note to conclusively test your RAM, you need to use sophisticated and very expensive test equipment, like this $2,495 Memory Tester (and that's for the cheap model)! So it is usually easier (and cheaper!) to swap in known good RAM and see what happens.

There's still the question of standoffs. And I am assuming you have triple checked to ensure all power and data cables are security connected.

Hmm i see

Yes i just checked everything and they are all seated fine

I just thought it the motherboard would be stuck at dram or cpu lights if ram is bad?

Thanks

You already replaced the motherboard. While certainly possible, it is unlikely two motherboards would fail with the same symptoms. LED indicators only provide clues and they are not always right.

hmm true

i don´t know what else i can try ( gpu was replaced as well )

i doubt there is a issue with the hardware

i don´t have any instability when it boots , do you think it could still be ram ?

the only things i didn´t replace : cpu and ram sticks

i suspect the dongle or maybe the 90 degrees dp adapter? or my cables bad maybe?

As crazy as it would sound, detach that HDD and see what's happening without it. Been there, done that, no joking.

the m2 is new , do you think even a new drive could cause it?

Stuck on the vga light points to a GPU problem. Have you forgotten to plug the power cables in?

this thing only happens randomly tbh

i´ve properly attached the 2 cables ( it is a splitter 2x8 , 4070 super)

when the pc boots there is 0 instability

this white vga light already happened in 2 different mobos , drives and gpus

the only thing i did not replace was the cpu and rams

the cpu hasn´t any bent pin as well

i know it may sound but maybe my headset is causing it ? it is one from corsair

i also have that bluetooth dongle mentioned as well

this happens like once in a month , pc fails to post

it should 2x6+2 cables, what do you mean you use a splitter? use both cables not 1 split into 2

I was having some weird issues a week or 2 back that led me to reinstall Windows twice within hours, turns out my USB printer was causing it as I had used it a week before and just left it plugged in which I don't usually do, rarely use it so only plug it in when I need it and then it gets turned off and unplugged though I guess I just left it this time, was fine until a week later when I was getting weird problems and after going through hours of head scratching and banging when I removed the printer cable the issues went away, so it is possible, USB can be problematic sometimes and is usually the last thing you think of, could be the motherboard header, cable, device or some weird power issues but I certainly wouldn't rule it out

Debugs lights rarely lie. It's failing to post at VGA step. Try a different slot?

As @Marcus L said, disconnect all unnecessary cables

Makes me think some OCP is kicking in.
not really as i´ve changed the PSU as well

it is properly connected i assure

yes it is 2x6+2 ( connected both in the nvidia adapter , atx 5.0)

Hm, I'm betting on PSU. Possibly damaging more in the process.

i doubt it is the same problem again

i had a 4070 eagle then i swapped for a 4070 super with a new psu and motherboard as well

i can´t be facing the same problem

the same white vga light happened in 2 mobos , 2 psus and 2 gpus , almost sure there isn´t a hardware issue

there is a high chance my bluetooth dongle could be the root maybe but i´m not sure

can my line filter or the 90 degrees display adapter be causing this ?

Probably not directly related to VGA than, but that's where it stops of two 80% different systems. So you have the CPU left and all the stuff plugged into that could be the culprit.

Something silly like a OCP trip from a Daisy-chain and something is shorting.

do you think it could be the CPU , RAM where all the motherboard lights have a consistently pass ?

my motherboard is cpu , dram , vga and boot ( the boot process )

so the light would be stuck at either dram or cpu maybe?

You said it was a splitter cable so I took from that you meant a single PCI-E cable with 2 x6+2
remove anything unneccesary, usb peripherals, 2nd monitor, HDD's, heck even try single stick of RAM in different slots and alternate them, lots of variables, failing that, breadboard the system (take it out of the case and plug in just the most basic things to get it to boot/post) when did the problem start, is this a new build so you had the issues from the outset or they randomly started?

Unplug anything not neccesary for the system to successfully post and boot, so yes, that includes all of those and the other things I mentioned, this is what you should have done before spending what seems like a quite large amount of $ just replacing things that might have been perfectly working

just randomly started , i swapped some components but still persisted

the only things that remained : cpu , ram , bluetooth dongle , redragon keyboard , logitech mouse

can my display port or hdmi cable cause it ?

i know bill mentioned that software that tests ram are not 100% accurate but it doesn´t get stuck at the ram light , passes the memtest86 and no instability whatsoever when the pc boots
