AYANEO has officially revealed its latest handheld gaming console, dubbed the AYANEO 3. The company has teased the handheld multiple times in the past, while refraining from sharing any specifications regarding the same. Now, however, the company has detailed the internals for its new flagship handheld along with a few extra details.

The AYANEO 3 appears to be powered exclusively by AMD APUs, with Intel's Lunar Lake options nowhere to be found. Interested buyers will get to choose between either the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 "Strix Point" APU, or the Ryzen 7 8840U "Hawk Point" APU. The "Strix Point" option happens to be AMD's latest and greatest, packing 4 Zen 5 and 8 Zen 5c cores, while the "Hawk Point" option sports 8 Zen 4 cores only.

Unsurprisingly, graphics performance will be paramount for any gaming console, handheld or not. The "Strix Point" APU rocks the Radeon 890M iGPU with 16 CUs based on RDNA 3.5, while the "Hawk Point" variant settles for a slower Radeon 780M iGPU that trails behind the 890M by almost 22% in both synthetic and gaming benchmarks. However, efficiency will certainly play a major role in real-life performance of these handhelds, and the "Strix Point" iGPU is not significantly better than its predecessor in this regard.

Unlike other "Strix Point" systems, the presence of a "Hawk Point" variant will likely allow the AYANEO 3 to have a more affordable entry price. Further, AYANEO also states that its latest flagship handheld will be available with both LCD and OLED display options - yet another win in regards to affordability. Undoubtedly, the OLED variant will offer a better experience, but those treading with tighter dollars will likely find the LCD variant a better buy.

if it came with native SteamOS support, I'd consider it

safest bet is going to just be patient for Deck 2 someday, I guess.

Glad it comes with Windows so I would have a full library to work with. Very interested in this especially since it doesn't have a 4 year old CPU/GPU like some other systems.

several games that used to work on Windows (especially older games) no longer work on Windows, yet run instantly with one click on SteamOS. so the real answer is a dual boot solution ya

OneXFly announced their own versions, with very similar internals and they start at $1099. Hopefully Asus and Lenovo can beat those prices by quite a bit.

Unfortunately, it won't be attractive, especially when you start bumping up the specs. So far, I have not seen any laptops or mini PCs with the current gen Strix Point CPUs launch at a reasonable price.
