I'm looking for something to replace my aging RX 580 (which I suspect is the cause of occasional system crashes), but I'm also pretty broke right now, so I'm just looking for for a temporary upgrade until I can afford something better later on, say, a year from now or further. I also hardly play games anymore these days and only have 1200p monitor, so I don't need anything powerful.

Is there anything relatively modern with comparable performance (so I can play the occasional game) that I can get for cheap (ideally 2nd hand in this case)?
Oh and - AMD only.

I'm not really sure. I haven't even checked if the current card is worth anything :D
I was thinking around the €150 mark, 2nd hand.
I'm fine with whatever as long as the performance is not worse than what I have (which is likely technically impossible, lol).

Consider the technologies and features that you are lacking in the RX 580 and what features you need to continue in the future.
A lot of us are gamers and coming from the RX580's sour performance in DX12 and Vulkan, a DX12_2 capable card is in order for many.
A few of us are creators dependent on apps that GULP memory and need the additional resolution and encode for whatever.
There's also the pressure of a future where we'll all be encoding/rendering streams on AV1 tracks instead of staying married to h264/x264.
If you barely game, anything made after Vega is pretty much competitive price.
Last gen nVidia stuff isn't doing any favors if you don't use their technologies in anything, I get it.
6000 vs 7000 series?

RX 6600 is the cheapest while being forward-looking and might be found under your price limit. RX 5600 XT will be cheaper and still much faster than the RX 580 (+55%) but lacks mesh shaders which could be a potential issue (was in Alan Wake II at release but fixed afterwards).

6600 or XT might just be what I'm looking for.
Like I said, it will be a temporary "upgrade", because eventually, I want to get a 1440p monitor when I find one (there's a catch in the form of higher refresh rate AND calibratable sRGB mode because I do photography as a hobby), so that will be the point at which I will want to upgrade to something more powerful. I'm thinking at least a year from now, so I don't want to spend more than I absolutely have to.

If pricing between 6600 and XT are within spitting distance Id grab a XT variant, if not the 6600 will be fine. Go BNIB to avoid any headaches with box o chocolates syndrom

6600 already advised, 5700 is same tier here. Just be cautious with "after-mining" models:D
5700XT if very lucky to find, but test thoroughly..
