Well for me you dont need the psu connected in both of my T5810s. Just need to plug the external programmer to a usb3 port as it has more voltage and you are good. Seems though you got it working :).

Got it. Have to admit that I haven't checked without PSU connection, so it's all fked up by my laptop (there's only one USB-A port on it) will definitely check cpu-z later
 
Hello all, wanted to share this after getting a T5810
A couple of months ago i found a T5810 for a bargain price of 100€ and offered 80€ the seller accepted, it was low a spec (1603v3, 2x 4gb 2133, 500gb hdd, Radeon w2100 gpu and a 685w psu), tested the system as is for a couple of days and it was lacking in every department ,i had some upgrades in my garage from a previous defective pc (mb was fried).

I wanted a reliable system to be my main pc for some casual gaming but also for office, editing, Plex server and emulation, without spending too much as a goal but also since it is a bit older i did not want to invest too much in the platform.

So bought 3 cpu's for 20€ the 2667v3, 2640v4 and currently installed the better 2690v4, eventually will sell all cpu's and go with a better V3 cpu with better single threaded performance, still not sure which to go for any suggestions would be welcome want to have a min of 8c/16t.
Bought a Silverstone nvme adapter (10€) and installed W11 pro 24H2 on a 2tb nvme with 500gb partition for OS/software + 2x sata 2tb ssd's and a 4tb hdd.
Installed a Quadro P2200 for a couple of weeks while waiting on a 1300w PSU (80€) then installed a RTX 2080ti i already had, had to knock of the bar on the side panel to be able to close the panel.
Bought 64gb of 4x16gb 2400 ram for 40€, system did not boot after 1 week on/off trial and error found 1 stick to be faulty together with a cmos reset which caused some headaches prior so atm still rocking 3x16gb triple channel (have a same model stick on the way).

When i have my final cpu i will mod the bios with all core turbo, rebar and a slight undervolt.

For now performance has been good as an allrounder with the 2690v4 and 2080ti i notice a slight cpu bottleneck sometimes while gaming still not sure if due to the missing ram stick or the single thread performance of the 2690v4.

I still need to recoup some of the costs of this system from the 4 cpu's, 2x4 gb ram, 685w psu.
Total cost has been quite good System 80€ + CPU's 20€ + NVME adapter 10€+ PSU 80€+ 64gb ram 35€ = Total 225€ which i will bring down by recouping after selling the above parts.

For an all rounder this system really is good, was it worth it well to me yes but only because i found a good deal on the t5810 and some bought parts the 1300W psu usually is 120€+ and had a majority of the upgrade components in possesion.

Hey thanks for sharing. I have 2 main systems myself the 2699v3 TBU (-70-50 payne), the 1660v3 OC to 4.5Gh. I suggest for gaming the 1660v3 OC to 4.3-4.5 would be excellent and less bottleneck to your GPU.
I also have the 825Watt PSU - from what I have heard is more than enough for the gtx2080ti. I was lucky and it was part of the machine together with 32 ram for around 100 GBP in my local market.

The base clock on the 2690V4 is likely a bit of an issue. You might be better served by a 2667V4 as it's an all round more balanced performer with a base clock 600mhz faster per core. However, the suggestion of the 1680V4 is really the most optimal performer, but is currently priced much higher than the 2667V4, yet is clocked 800mhz faster per core. The 2080ti is a beast of a GPU, even still. It's not difficult to bottleneck it CPU wise.

Thanks, i initially was looking at a 825w but the cheapest one i could find was around the price of the 1300w one i found, i think it was around 70€ and had some on reddit telling me it was not able to cope with a 2080ti because of possible power spikes and the way the power board distributed the power did not want to take the risk with all the additional drives and a possible power hog of a cpu.

I will look at the 1660v3 i always thought it was a 6c/12t cpu but it is 8c/16t and low price, my other option is sell all 4 and buy a 2696v3 that is really the one i had in mind for single but also multi threading i am worried if 8c/16t is enough of this generation if i stream while gaming and someone is watching Plex at the same time i think the 2696v3 is my top pick if reasonably priced otherwise a 1660/1680v3, the 2699v3 is not worth it for the prices i found.

Thanks for the suggestions indeed thought so myself, as a stock V4 cpu the 2690v4 is really good however it can't keep up with the 2080ti (overpowered for this system however i play at 1440P 144hz and it is the only gpu i had lying around) and since there is no possibility to OC the V4 chips i think i will get a 2696v3 or 1660/1680v3 and mod the bios for rebar/undervolt and OC the chip a bit for some higher clocks to try and have a better balanced system.

The 1680v4 is a good suggestion if you dont want to OC, however the 1680v4 is locked so no overclock is possible so max is 4Ghz in a couple of cores (also locked all 16xx v4 xeons). I would go for the 1660v3 as you can hit 4.3-4.5 easily on all cores (or 1680v3 but you pay a premium over 1660v3 for no reason) and at one third of the price of 1680v4 (as it stands). So cheaper and much faster. Compare results in CPU-z below for 1680 v4 vs

To add with the 1660v3 you can also overclock the cache from 3 to 3.5 Ghz that gives an additional boost in the games.

E5-2667V4 is the balance point with 8C16T, 3.2GHz and 135w TDP as far as I know. For V3 we usually choose E5-2666V3 with 10C20T, 2.6GHz(up to 3.5GHz with undervolting).
I don't recommand any of E5-16XX since they are basically E3 and worse than E3 sometimes.

Agreed with you and my assumption is that if you are in this forum your target is to maximise your system's performance - that is why I joined. So based on my experience after tinkering a lot with the t5810s (I have played with 6 different machines and configurations from overclocking the 1650v3 to rurbo boost unlocking the 2699v3 which is pretty much the same as 2696v3) my conclusions are if you want to maximise your gaming performance is to OC 16xx processors and laid out above the arguments for the 1660v3.
The 2699v3 or 2696v3 are OK if you want to go via the process of modding your bios but still will lose by the oc 1660v3 in gaming.

The methodology to oc the 1660v3 (or other unlocked processors) is on the link I quoted above that frankr2994 initiated years ago.

The beauty of it is you don't need to mod your bios - you can use Scewin utility to unlock the bios from windows and Intel extreme tuning utility XTU plus a script to autoload the XTU at startup (all specified in the forum thread) and you have converted your T5810 to a mean gaming machine.

Unfortunately the Throttlestop for some reason does not respond using this method hence going the xtu way.

Thanks again, indeed normally the v4 for a stock system is a better pick. My case is tied to the gpu beeing too good for what any v4 can provide in terms of clock speeds.

Will indeed use throttlestop for oc and indeed the bios i intend to use needs to bclk unlock, undervolting maybe and rebar enabled ( checking some tests can't really see an improvement with Nvidia gpu's)

I think as well but would it be the better pick over the 2696v3 overall. I don't mind if single threaded performance is a couple points off if multi thread is a good amount better. Choices choices

Indeed, that's for you to decide and prioritise :). If your target is gaming the choice is clear to me. You need to consider your needs. I have both myself but for gaming use mostly the 1660v3

Thanks this gives good insight on both. Will get a 2696v3 at first and see how it goes overall and in gaming if i notice a cpu bottleneck i will go with the 1660v3, in the end these cpu's are dirt cheap now.
 
Can i improve graphics in my Dell T3500 even if it is PCIe 2.0. With a XFX Speedster MERC308 Radeon RX 6650XT 8 GB GDDR6 HDMI 3xDP, AMD RDNA™ 2 (RX-665X8TBDY) I have a 34" AOC G2 CU34G2XP - 3440x1440 - 180Hz - VA - Curved. I now have a Nvidia GTX 660 windforce 2gb. 1.4 hdmi. 1.2 dp.

They was on Amazon. Can i get improved picture on my AOC screen by upgrading from HDMI 1.4 to 2.0? Or dp 1.2 to 1.4 I also suspect that the XFX card is a little long. My gtx 660 almost suits.

I am wondering, the modified bios, will it work with it and I have read through what you posted but could you kind of give me some assistance on the install method of the modified bios for the 5810? I would like to get rebar working on it.

There is a guide if you want to make it:
but you need a ch341a programmer for the dell for bios backup and write.

Or upload the bios with the programmer (make backup first).
My custom bios (rebar modded, undervolted 50mv, xeon v3 all core turbo unlocked, v4 xeon not recommened with this bios)

Curious on my t3420
Are there any options for using a different USB port section on the front of the machine from a later model that includes usb-c that would be compatible?
Also trying to stick to dell PSUs, anything higher than the plat rated 240w that would fit the machine and be compatible? I had a Arc a310 card in it before I sent it back having max tdp of 27w and was supposed to be 50w either I lack understanding or that was the machine simply saying "all I can do is 27w" I mean I also got a usbc card in small slot providing 15w but I don't know if that affects this.
edit: forgot to ask one more! Any way I can use a custom internal speaker and replace the oem one in the front behind the bezel? I doubt it because I don't know how much power is supplied to it.

So i made myself a christmas presend and ordered an empty 5810 for 63€ including shipment. I switched to Threadripper back then because there was a period were threadripper was cheaper than workstation stuff. But i was always interested in this Xeon V3 Turbo feature glitch.

I got a two questions:

1. The GPU Power 2x6pin is power limited like in 3600 and 3610 ? I did a mod back than to drive my Fury X
2. Even with the Bios Mod i need to suspend and use throttlestop to have unlimited turbo clock? Or is it Suspend + Throttlestop OR just "flash" the moded Bios
(i do have a programmer...)

Should work as long as your PSU is model above 600W.
