Hello folks, I'm running into a small problem here. My monitor always flicks once (like when you switch between integrated GPU and external GPU) whenever I turn the PC on. Is this a normal thing with Nvidia GPU or does something really need a fix?

While this only happens once after turning on, it feels like something isn't right. Here's my computer specs:

- AMD Ryzen 5 2600X
- GPU Palit GTX 1060 6 GB
- Motherboard Asrock B450M-HDV
- RAM Team T-Create Classic 8x2 3200Mhz
- PSU DeepCool PF500

I have no other issues using that GPU, only that screen flickering once every time my computer turns on. Oh, and I'm still running on Win 10. Thank you in advance.

unplug and plug your hdmi or dp cable.. make sure they are connected properly also make sure its dust free...
if problem persist try a different cable..
if problem persist maybe there is a loose port on either monitor or gpu

Any possibility to try another monitor? Did the flickering start when GPU was changed? What cable do you use?

My old monitor started doing strange stuff and showing various lines across display before it passed away.

I see. Unfortunately, I don't have a spare monitor as of now. Might try to borrow from my friend. I'm using a stock HDMI cable from the monitor. However, there's no strange line. It only flicks once after the PC is turned on and that's all.

Yeah, it started doing that one flick after the GPU was changed. I had no issue with my old card (it was AMD RX 550 before). Well, I bought a secondhand GTX 1060 GPU so it might be also the source of the problem.

another thing you can try is power down the monitor unplug the cables and the power cable... for about a min or two...
drain all its charge and plug back in

@Hyderz I tried everything you mentioned, also double check the PCIe to see if it seated well, but none seems to work. I guess it must be something else, or something I can't see from the outside.
@LittleBro I really want to try your method but I can't get any monitor available at the moment. Hopefully will be able to get one soon.

Also, do you think there's any possibility aside from the hardware? I do a regular Nvidia driver update. Thanks again for your responses.

Do you have TV? Use TV as another monitor, it basically is a monitor.
Again, what type of connection do you use between PC and monitor?

Btw, do you turn with your monitor often? Like in some offices, they turn monitor nearly 180° for customers to see - not good for ports lifespan.

Also, do you think there's any possibility aside from the hardware? I do a regular Nvidia driver update. Thanks again for your responses.
To me it seems more like a hw issue. You can't really do anything bad here with drivers reinstall. Use driver cleanup utility. Also make sure to uninstall monitors.
Or maybe before doing drivers reinstall try to use another output port on the GPU.

This might be also related to your new GPU. Have you experienced any other issues with it? Instabilities in games or so ... I take it that GTX 1060 has been already used for several years.

Uhh... we don't have a TV here at our house. No, I never turn my monitor or tilt it.
It is surprisingly smooth with games and everything else in between like drawing/editing photos with Krita or Inkscape. I occasionally use blender for 3D modeling and it also works flawlessly.

Noted, I will try that driver utility. Thank you.

check your frequency settings for your monitor. My 57 inch Samsung will do that occasionally after it starts but goes away when I click on the screen to log on. RTX4090 pushing 5120x1440 @120Hz.
Settings>System>Display>Advanced Display>Choose a Refresh Rate and make sure it's where it's supposed to be for your monitor. Good Luck!

I have the same behavior (Win 11 though, but miiiight be applicable to 10 too if it’s what I think), it’s normal on certain monitors with NV GPUs with certain settings. Basically, stems from MS changing how color management applies. Check your NVCP settings and see if your Desktop Color isn’t set to Override to Reference, which is one culprit, or just Color settings overall aren't on “Use NVidia Settings”, which is another.
