Just found out this was a thing.

If you put build in it. Would it still be classed as a 'sleeper' build?? :pimp:

Great job Silverstone though. Silverstone DIDNT NEED to do this. It was an April Fools joke but they still went ahead and gave the people what they wanted. Lets hope its not just a limited run and will be distributed outside Asia.

why make a fake 80's case, why not use a real homegrown 80s/90s beige 45pounds 1/8inch thick steel horizontal case and mod it?

I actually thought about that a few times.

Don't remember how big or small they actually where though  maybe today's cooler and gargantuan gpu wouldn't fit.

Unfortunately those I had I threw away years ago.

I only remember they were pretty much bullettproof :D - which makes sense considering the relative cost of a IBM compatible PC at the time, might aswell make it durable unlike today's flimsy side panels.

And the innards were always sharpened by a japanese master sword maker.

Shut up and take my money! I'd build my media rig inside one anyday, looks way more charming than those HiFi-styled HTPC cases. :)

I actually thought about that a few times.
Don't remember how big or small they actually where though  maybe today's cooler and gargantuan gpu wouldn't fit.
Unfortunately those I had I threw away years ago.
80s and early 90s cases were probably not ATX but AT. So, the first hurdle is a PSU at a different or fairly random size. Motherboard not in any if the ATX form factors that we know and love. Fans are either for the weak or in small sizes, sometimes even the large 80mm ones maybe if you are lucky. I think you are seriously overestimating their steel thickness but even if you aren't they are probably structurally put together really poorly - when compared to current cases, even cheap ones - or some of the structural bits will be right where you need to cut it to mod it into submission.

And yes, that is from experience. From this particular angle of taking one and modding to fit current hardware, with mid- to late 90s ATX cases that were already a step up from older ones.
Cooling is a problem largely because how hot our current stuff is. For example in that timeframe 486 is from 1989, Pentium is from 1993. Neither really needed cooling. I think Pentiums had basic low heatsinks for faster models but that is about it. Voodoo was what, late 1995, Voodoo2 in 1998 and neither really needed active cooling.

Cool idea. And given enough effort, cool result. But this might be quite a bit more work than you'd expect from outset.

My first thought as well.

Stuffing a Thermalright ARO-M14G in a Zalman Z1 Neo was a chore, I even had to use long needle nose plier to plug in the EPS12V. These cases would be suited for an APU build, if not use a Mobile CPU in it, or a case half this height for true laptops.

Its a big cooler lol. With my Meshify C and Le Grand Macho RT I have to plug those cables in first before I attempt to mount the cooler

Athlon XP was quicker than that with a 7200 rpm drive

If it wasnt for the joggled window frame the cooler would have never Fit, I doubt the Scythe Ashura or Mugen Max would have either if it wasn't for that.

I remember my SX830 not having room for the tt big typhoon.

If anything Antec/Chieftec, Thermaltake should come back out with the SX830/40 Style case but make them wider to support 140 and 230 mm fans

The fake 5.25 bays that hide USB and CD access are a nice touch. Shows how committed they are to the real deal.

The blue LED spoils everything. I'd accept a blue incandescent signal lamp but a LED, no way.

The plastic should also respond to aging in a historically correct way, and take on a yellow hue on the side that's exposed to sunlight. So much better if they also offer a pre-aged version.

Either one. You just need a really long time from power button press to Windows jingle.

Yes, they should implement a 43sec wait between power on before it attempts to load OS.

I still bleed everytime I open my PC, I swear. I don't even need sharpened edges anymore, it's just tradition at this point I guess.
