TPU's WCG/BOINC Team

I had a not so random thought of joining WCG to help with cancer research because of... reasons... but the BOINC client seems to be stuck at trying to download byte sized files for a task. Is this normal?

Edit: Their web page seems to be awfully slow as well.

I checked and my daily has a whole page of stuck stuff. I do have a good amount of Rosetta and WCG jobs running but a bunch of MCM's are pending download. I updated Rosetta and it sent out the done work, no problem. I will check again tomorrow, or actually, later today. Hopefully, they can figure it out by midday.?

It might have something to do with the Africa Rain being put out again. They may have just effed up. It should be fixed, hopefully, by days end. Most likely a bandwidth, or software issue. This job has been offline for many months, so the restart is having some issues, obviously.

Yep, still having the download issues same as for the last few days... It's a little frustrating to say the least... Hopefully they will be able to fix it soon... Getting some work down but not as much as I'd have liked. I wouldn't mind so much but my 'daily streak' totals seems to go well and then when this happens, the streak goes away... Not major but my god make sure things work before you try and push things out WCG!!

Yes, back to the downloads hanging up here as well. Same thing as before. (it was some time ago) If you click on the retry button enough times the downloads will finish. Don't have the time to look for the old threads right now, but it's SS-DD (same $hit - different day)

World Community Grid: ARP restart update
The ARP project will be restarting by Monday November 4, following the technical pause it entered in December 2022.

OK, So, it's early 11/11 today. I have 1 job in the Q and it is still trying to download. Maybe they forgot to plug the modems back in? Is there only 1 modem for the whole server banks? LOL. Whatever it is, Let's get it done, already!!

Maybe they forgot to plug the modems back in?
No, I'm pretty sure they plugged in at least one. I had a WU downloading at 28k, brought back memories...

I start to worry when it gets down to bytes in speed... Still waiting on a load to get downloaded.....

What's another good project to run on CPU? Rosetta is drying up and WCG is doing the dumb.

I've run Einstein as a backup in the past.

It looks like WCG is working again. I have a full load of tasks on one of my PCs. :)

Oddly enough, the PC I left on all night is stuck in backoff mode with just one job running. Weird.
I've seen that before. Had some systems running w/o a problem, while others couldn't get a thing.

Still getting weird stuff with WCG tasks, the Milkway and Einstein seem to be completely fine and have no issues running at all :) I just wish the solar power was better so I could get some more PCs running!! :D Electric been rather crazy priced here for a few weeks, but I think its slowly dropped down which is thankfully, great news :)

Got a few on today running, but all of them running WCG, are struggling to get work so I've been running a few more FAH tasks on them as well.. Gotta get those 3070's/3080's/3090 doing something :)

The WCG outage is likely to start on Dec 7. This is from a WCG tech in THIS posting. Just in case you decide to run Rosetta then read This workaround for the missing SSL certificate that prevents downloading work (for some or everybody).

Their X post: "IMPORTANT: There will be an extended WCG downtime from December 7th, 2024 to January 3rd, 2025."

Just when it finally started to work normally on all of my systems.

I wonder if its worth trying to finish off the work we have but I'm unsure what they are doing about everything that's not going back as its not all finished? I'm unsure...

Apologies gents I've not been around again and TPU has just started working for me as I was just starting to put up some updates... I think bed time and I'll do it in the morning, as its coming up to 2am now... I've been trying out the newer FAH Client... Not sure if I'm a fan or not just yet.....

When I read the news about the shutdown, I set all my PCs on full blast, and when they had enough work downloaded for the day, I hit "do not get new tasks". All 3 of them nicely finished everything by now. :)

To answer the question, unfinished work will wait for upload until it hits the expiration time, I guess.

I've just cancelled a load of my jobs because some hadn't started and that won't reach the server in time anyways, so its pointless (excuse the bad but nicely timed pun!!) as it's just going to sit there doing nothing, so I'll move over a few machines over to something else and see what they do like :)

I do wonder why they are taking it offline for so long and more importantly if it will ever come back online afterwards.....
