Hello everyone.
So, i was on the verge of upgrading or not my 13700k (paired with an Asus Z790-H Gaming), because i was very wasted of how hot and power consumer that CPU was, i kept that CPU for two years, i even faced some problems and tried to get TPU help here and here, and then when Arrow Lake and Ryzen 9800x3d came up i started to think about what to do.
I always felt confortable with Intel, i've had many CPU's from them and never faced issues with rams, drivers, only this thing to cool down that hot guy called 13700k... With AMD, a totally different story, eveytime i tried to have an AMD product, it never, but never, went smooth, specially with their graphics cards (yes, i prefer to pay more for Nvida even it's a little worse than AMD everytime of the day) wich was always a terrible experiencie, same with Ryzen CPU's.
We all know arrow lake launch wasn't good, problems and performance not as expected, etc... So i obviously started to think on what to do, i just couldn't keep that CPU any longer, so i was going to update anyways, just couldn't decide AMD or Intel.
So, what made me decide on buying Intel? Two situations:
- 265k and Asus Z890-F Gaming mobo were on very good discounted price at a local store, the upgrade wasn't going to be that expensive, and i started to think about it, and i was aware of all the situations related to Arrow Lake.
- I've built a PC to a close friend with 9800X3D with a nice Motherboard MSI X870 Carbon, he already had DDR5 ram from his 12700k, so we decided to re-use it for the new build... Dear lord, i never faced so many problems just to trying to get that thing TO POST, RAM issues here and there, all the time, and in the end he ended up complaining that the games the he played wasn't being that smooth or stutter free as he tought it would (and some bluescreens too).
So, specially the second situation made my decision, i got home, and ordered the CPU+Z890 Mobo i wanted, because i didn't want to face those issues again on MY computer, hell no.
After a week using this build, guys, i couldn't be more happy with my change, this CPU runs WAY more cold than 13700k did, by a huge difference:
- I was using Dark Rock Pro 5 (yes, i've upgraded from Dark Rock Pro 4 while i was using 13700k just to see if i could see any difference, it did, but not enough), and 13700k just by being idle was around 35-38º, 265kº is +/- 25º and my fans are runing at around 300 rpm right now, they are almost stop.
- With 13700k, some actions i did like opening some apps, compression etc, i could hear instantly the fans of the cooler because of the temps, with 265k i just don't even hear a damn thing, nothing.
- One of the games i play a lot is Battlefield 2042, it was a pain to play it with 13700k, that CPU made the cooler running 90% of the time at full speed because the temps were reaching 90º (or 100º), with 265k, NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THAT, the CPU reaches 65º-70º depending on what's happening and the power draw is way much lower... And the best of all?? The game is running more smooth and stutter free then before, i'm impressed.
Probably i got lucky, because at launch there were a lot of issues with motherboards and windows, and for me everything was butter smooth, because first of everything, i updated the BIOS right away to the latest version wich includes some fixes to the CPU, my motherboard came with the initial release BIOS, version 0503
I didn't faced any issues installing windows, like zero... Just a normal quick installation, drivers, all windows updates done, and some optimizations here and there, no problems. Oh, best of all? No RAM issues, plug and play, XMP on and working 100%.
I believe the issues are going to be fixed over time, it doesn't erase the bad launch this CPU had, but as of me? I couldn't be happier so far, and i'm going to be the first one to complain if everything starts to fail or not working as expected.
I created this post if people want to make some questions regarding the CPU, since there's very little info related to it (which is normal, sales are low), and you could even give me some tips/hints that i'm not aware of, and i will try to test games at every microcode update if you guys want.
P.S. Forgot to mention, i play at 1440p when i'm using monitor (FPS and RTS games) and 4k when using TV (all the rest).
Best regards all!
