Edimax is pleased to announce the release of the D5G-8459 Industrial 5G NR DIN-Rail Router, a powerful solution for seamless wireless and wired connectivity in the most challenging environments. Capable of operating within a temperature range of -20°C to 70°C, this router delivers reliable 5G NR internet access in locations where fixed broadband is unavailable or impractical.

Equipped with the RM520-GL (Qualcomm Snapdragon x62), the D5G-8459 router offers enhanced reliability, compatibility, and high performance. It supports automatic failover between 5G NR and wired Ethernet, ensuring continuous connectivity even during network disruptions. This level of redundancy is vital for industries reliant on uninterrupted services, including payment systems, remote data transfers, online meetings, and video streaming, making it an indispensable tool in ensuring smooth operations.

To meet the diverse needs of modern businesses, the D5G-8459 is designed for easy installation with plug-and-play capability and flexible mounting options such as wall-mount, DIN-Rail, or desktop placement. It delivers fast Gigabit speeds, suitable for streaming, video conferencing, and other data-intensive applications. Its robust design and rapid deployment make it suitable for both temporary and permanent installations, like events, field operations, and areas where wired broadband is not feasible.

The router comes equipped with advanced management tools to further enhance network performance and security. Features like Blacklist/Whitelist, VPN Client (L2TP and PPTP), Guest Wi-Fi Isolation, and Network Diagnostics offer users comprehensive control over their network environment, ensuring it remains secure, optimized, and adaptable to various application requirements.

Edimax's D5G-8459 also incorporates dual power supplies to ensure operational continuity. In the event of a power disruption, the router automatically switches to a backup power source, preventing downtime. This capability is crucial for industries where network reliability is paramount, ensuring that critical communications and data transfers continue uninterrupted, even during emergencies like natural disasters or construction-related broadband issues.

The D5G-8459 offers businesses a reliable and scalable networking option, equipped to handle the rigorous demands of today's rapidly evolving industrial landscape, ensuring a seamless and robust internet connection wherever it's needed.

Edimax has their own OS frontend at least, not sure what they run behind it, it tends to depend on the SoC used, as each of the SoC makers have their own SDK/base OS that tends to be used by the router makers to put their own stuff on top of.

Because, industrial.

The actual selling points for these:
solution for seamless wireless and wired connectivity in the most challenging environments. Capable of operating within a temperature range of -20°C to 70°C
It's not your average office or household router.

I never much cared much for Edimax equipment (at least not what we had and sold).....but it has been many years since I have used any.

I have used very similar equipment though. A client (pollution management firm) uses catalytic oxidizers to remove ground water contamination, and they are completely remote controlled and monitored via similar routers hooked up to a mess of controls and relays (I'm just the network guy). Pretty simple to arrange with a cell provider. I like to spring for a static IP, makes it really easy.

but I can vouch for these type of routers for remote industrial stuff. They work well. You are, of course, at the mercy of your cellular reception. Not like you expect to be pushing tons of data over something like this. I bet the vast majority of these are used for control, telemetry, or on-site (middle of nowhere) wifi.
