AMD 9800X3D availability issue

My largest Etailer in Norway won't have any in stock until the beginning of Febuary. I won't even mention the price. Demand+"Norway Tax" amounts to a pretty eyewatering price in comparison to MSRP...

How nice for them, and you. None of those new locations even moves the needle on servicing new areas, because the Eastern states already had ample access. Even your "Western" store is 1,300 miles away for me. When they finally get around to opening the new store in Santa Clara, it'll still be 910 miles away. This doesn't even touch on how inaccessible it is for EU members here on the forum.

So once again, until Micro Center exists in more than a dozen or so localities the advice doesn't help many of us.

AMD cant do much about it but stream more CPUs into the market. When every store can have them, prices will be down to normal.
I want to believe that in mid 2025 Q1 things will get better as this was the initial schedule for 9000X3D.
Doesn't matter if any manufacturer says publicly to not support scalpers. There are people with so big wallets who do not care if they have to pay x2 or x3 the price just to have what they want.
500 or 1500 is like a drop out of entire pool to them. Its absurd but I can understand it because it makes sense, to them.

If I was building new system now and couldn't wait, I'd look to 2-CCD nonX3D parts.

Sounds a bit jaded.

There are still a good number of us that do have a Microcenter nearby and for us, it's a helpful reminder to keep supporting your local store because they support real people being able to buy these as opposed to scalpers (purchase limits tracked with ID). It's worth the trip in store even if it's more convenient to buy from Amazon or newegg or other online retailers. Stock at mine in Kansas is also good.

it is odd how microcenter has so many of them, last time i was at the microcenter in houston, tx they had a cabinet full of them, probably close to 50.

I'm planning on stopping by there in the next couple of days....don't need one, but I'll be sure to go and stare at them for a few minutes.

Unobtanium in my neck of the woods for now. I bought my old B550 board again to tide me over. If I cant get a new X3D in a few months I will grab a dual CCD X3D as soon as they drop, then build around it lol.

I saw it somewhere online that the 9950X3D will have only ony CCD with X3D cache on it, just like the 7950X3D; having two CCDs with X3D might be with the next gen I guess.

I saw that and it kind of disappointed me but then I finally got my hands on a 9800X3D. I can see them eventually adding more cache to there top end chips X3D chips but only once the solve the issues with doing that. For now and the near future I don't see anything really needing more then 8 cores for simply gaming. Now i have to figure out how to use Rufus to bet windows 11 installed

I cant even pre order the thing here anymore. From what I've seen any preorders that were made here will be shipped by mid to late January but that still doesn't solve the stores having them in stock. Now if your American your not having any issues from what I can see. I was just so lucky that one of our truck drivers was vacationing in the southern USA and got me one. Didn't cost me much more then possibly buying it here as prices are rising in Canada on this CPU its gone from $669 to $699 cdn and they aren't even in stock . I hope you get yours soon. For me this is a huge upgrade from my old 6700K

9800x3d is a real success, no real competition, so yea, it sells at the speed of light. I guess AMD did not anticipate how much Arrow Lake would suck for gaming.

Holy $%# that has to be the most expensive 8 core CPU I have seen. It will be interesting to see how the +bought in the last month number does as time and stock improves. Some E tailers might even limit stock to keep prices juiced. Let's hope it is not a repeat of the 3300X.

I saw the 3300X during the BF sale at Amazon, I was so shocked I almost bought it. It is probably one of the more rare AM4 parts. Even more so than the Micro Center specials.

I had a friend that worked at my favorite PC store at the time (Canada Computers). I had to get him to reserve one for me and it still took about a month to get any that were not pre-order. This situation could be even worse as the 3300X was a budget CPU that made you forget it was budget and the 9800X3D has been sold as the fastest Gaming CPU in the World by not AMD but the tech media. I just want my 9900X3D. I even have a A620I waiting for my 7900X3D. That will become a Killer productivity machine.

I am also coming from a 8700K - been without a PC for 14 months now, due to move out, baby, many things! - so I am expecting a lot!!

Till now my order isn't shipped and all my organs are crossed the order doesn't get cancelled or so, I am getting a windows starting 10th of Jan to expect it to be shipped, let's see! Congratulations on your CPU
