Working on modding a Firepro S9300x2 to use it in a computer. Just for a fun project.

For those unaware, the 9300x2 is essentially dual r9 nanos on a single PCB, but it has no fans to keep it cool, and it's purely for compute.

It does have a single mini display port, but it's inaccessible behind the Pcie bracket, and not even enabled.

As silly as this looks, here's where I'm at now. I took a dead RX480 cooler and... Sawed it in half.

What I would really love is if this looked like a retail card or something, but I doubt I'm ever going to get there, no matter how much I try and 3d print my way out of this.

The display out I can probably unobstruct with a Dremel, and just bios flash both halves into a Nano.

Upload the bios to GPU-Z VGA Bios collection and get a link to it please

It tells me the current vBIOS is identical to this one:

I went ahead and extracted the ROM from my actual R9 Nano and flashed it to both cores on the S9300x2.

Got this really cursed config running just for funzies with a 1.8a 80mm fan zip tied to the front of the GPU and a 1a one to the back for push pull.

Crossfire sorta works (but not really). AMD Driver utility is very confused by this combo lol.

Have you considered maybe the pro duo bios?

I've seen this kind of card popping on my local online shop, kind of interesting to buy for some experiment. Keep us posted!

I wonder if that would work? The VRM/layout on the 9300x2 are essentially the same as a Nano, but the Pro Duo gets the full Fury X VRM and another 8 pin this lacks.

I guess at worst I just need to reflash it if the pro duo vBIOS doesn't work. Would probably get me more power limit and clockspeed.

Latest update is that I'm attempting to 3d print a shroud for it to make it look more like a retail product but also allow me to mount it all together.

1000014056.png

1000014055.jpg

First half of the thing printed. It's not perfect, not quite what I wanted but it'll do.

Gonna print sides and and glue this together on top of the factory shroud+rx480 half to keep it all together.

Planning on making the side look like this. I don't think making a backplate out of PLA is the wisest decision so it's going to go backplate less

Fake Radeon?
1000014075.jpg

Shame this has a seam in the middle but it's pretty neat looking otherwise. Working on sides now to make a full shroud.
1000014073.jpg

While the S9300x2 has a spot for 2 fan headers actually, the SMDs required to make that work are absent so i just sacrificed a 120mm case fan for its pwm header to control this blower. Plugging that in unleashed a pure vacuum cleaner, so I have no real doubts this'll be able to cool itself when I'm done.

Cut the bracket to make the mini DP accessable then finished the shroud.

I may or may not have mismeasured and put the pcie cutout in the wrong area, so I'll have to fix that via a saw most likely. It ain't factory fresh but it'll work and look ok IG.

Need to drill the screw holes for it to be mounted. Paint the Radeon logos red.

I do look forward to testing how cooling will be here, but the fan is pure vacuum cleaner so I suspect decent. May need to make improvements inside to better direct air to make it cooler and quieter. I lot of air will escape the Pcie cutout unless I print a baffle.

Did the other boards shroud have a sheen to them? I was thinking maybe clear coat that shroud
More semi gloss than gloss look to the AMD reference shrouds, based off of the 480 I hacked for this. Semi gloss clear may be the route to take.

I need to paint the red properly, because RN it's just an expo marker, not even permanent

Still need to drill holes in it to mount it properly, and fix the Pcie cutout. I think I may have just accidentally put one of the pieces backwards when assembling the shroud...
