Soooo... I managed to install SC and walk around a bit.
Motherf what a stutterfest. I'm sure its better once you are in some instance that isn't a hub, but jesus christ almighty the whole walking around in one is absolute torture. I've set myself the objective of getting back into it and then properly discovering it with the expectations set uber low, and possibly also the graphics a lot lower lol. Also, where is 'always run', I didn't find it in keybindings, and walking around is incredibly slow, almost like walking backwards, so everyone's holding shift to run all the time? Or?

I did get to appreciate the immersive qualities of that hub, the amount of utterly useless things you can do that amount to nothing. I'm glad to see Chris has his project priorities in order here lmao

Still you do get the impression a lot of things are set up nicely, or at least on that trajectory. It just runs like absolute shit, still. The world and its impression of expansiveness certainly does invite.

I think I have account over there and have the AMD ship. ARe you telling me I can somehow sell it? That money would be handy! How can I sell that?
edit: Fuck, I must have had it deleted in past when I realized the game was waporvare :( Gah!
Just restore your login details, surely you have some sort of confirmation email somewhere.

Just roll to different server, if it starts to stutter server will soon crash, I just use US servers, while most still sleep.

Ahaaa yeah I was on EU. So those EU servers are probably situated in Moscow or something ? Or is the whole environment just prone to crashing eventually?

There arent really Quality Settings in the game, just set everything to Highest it can go apart from Volumetric Clouds. With a 7900XT, I'd run High clouds. Clouds are purely GPU bound and costs a lot to run so choose as your preference.

Stutterfest halfly goes away once you build the shader cache. So your subsequent sessions should be better. Be warned though, changing quality settings usually breaks shader cache so you it's just better to set high and forget they exist apart from resolution and cloud settings. You can play with those anytime.

Instead of toogle run you can set your walking speed by mouse wheel. Usually it is just better to put it on highest so you run everywhere. I kinda like it as you can change your move speed easily to get more immersive whenever you want like when entering your ship or first time walking onto another planet etc.

Most of those immersive things you have in the hubs (and in your ship too) dont have a function right now. In fact, starter hub basically has no function other than spawning you. Ideally, you will spawn in your home (when implemented), hospital (in game) or in your ship (in game) so hubs are not really important (as they are now). And the functions for those things will hopefully be added when their mechanics are added. Currently we only have hunger and dehydration so showers and toilets are not functional. You can stock your food in the fridge/cupboard in your ship and use weapon racks and of course beds (for spawning, sleep is not a mechanic and I believe it wont be).

Just try to explore the system, travel other planets and moons and expect to die, a lot, to stupid mistakes, small things, and bugs of course. It just gets better as you play and learn what to expect from game, what to avoid, basically, what to do.

I was able to recover my count just now. I haven't logged in for like 8 years or something. Neat. lol

I guess I will be able to use my $25 kickstarter ship someday after all... maybe when I am in the nursing home it will be a good romp.

Get out of the city and your fps will double. Go to the nearest space station and set your spawn there.

It's a space game. It doesn't deal too well with planets atm. Hang in there.

so ive been out of the game for a while . only just installed a m.s pci4.0 drive and are looking into some new components. just d/l star and i can only run on 1080p. 2 years ago i could run on 1440p. ok ... its obvious there is upgrades to the engine but was it always dx 11 ? 2/3 years ago??? also tried vulcan and that was shit to . I think my point is why is so shit no eg uno slow , and how has it changed . I dont mind upgrading to new components so that s not it .,.. cheers

Star Citizen is an alpha game with alpha performance. I know it has been in development for 10+ years. Performance optimization is not their top priority right now. That said, Star Citizen 4.0 preview recently launched with some much needed performance improvements.

Star Citizen is a very CPU heavy game. There is a lot of simulation elements stuck on a single thread. Your hardware is a little bit low for Star Citizen. A better CPU and memory are going to uplift your FPS when you are limited by the star citizen main thread. That would be like when you are in cities or in big Polaris fights. These are situations that will put my tuned 7800x3d down to 30fps. Upgrading your GPU will uplift you when you are in gpu limited scenarios such as dead space or quantum travel. Those situations usually have higher FPS to begin with, but a lower end gpu like yours will struggle somewhat. Star Citizen easily uses 10gb vram too. You will need a bigger gpu for 4k though. TSR/DLSS will help dramatically in gpu bound situations.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The biggest thing that would help your performance is a CPU upgrade. That would help improve the worst FPS situations but there is only so much you can do. GPU performance shouldn't be worse than it was 2 years ago. You were probably in a situation where you were CPU bound.

For those unaware, Star Citizen is more of a RnD project than a game. A lot of development goals have been locked behind a technology called Server Meshing. Server meshing is not a new technology but Star Citizen is trying to do it at a scope no one else has been dumb enough to try. As of this week Server Meshing is complete and being used in a live environment. This is a major milestone in Star Citizen Development. With Server Meshing comes the second star system called Pyro. Pyro is the biggest content expansion the game has ever seen. Fans of Star Citizen are eating good this holiday season.

The recent Letter from the Chairman shows a change in development focus.

2025: A Focus on Playability

As we jump into the new year, our primary focus across our Star Citizen teams is clear: improving playability. Our drive for playability surrounds three critical areas - performance, stability, and content. We understand that the Live environment must be far more reliable and consistent, and we are determined to deliver on this.

The sentiment many of you have shared—and one we wholeheartedly agree with—is that if the current game, as it stands today, ran smoothly with fewer obstacles and bugs, it would provide an unparalleled experience. Over the years, we have experimented with different approaches to improve quality of life (QoL) and tackling tech debt. However, the ongoing challenge has been balancing these efforts alongside the introduction of new features and technology.

Too often, testing new features within the same pipeline as content has led to unintended ripple effects—creating instability, hindering performance, and impacting overall gameplay. In some cases, new features that are not fully mature have delayed the release of content or caused blockers that impact our progress. This has prompted us to reevaluate our approach to feature and content rollout, focusing on steps we can take to bring the game to a better state while maintaining steady delivery.

To achieve our goals, we are making a fundamental change: decoupling feature development from content creation and general fixes. This means new features will no longer hold up content delivery or risk destabilizing the Live environment. This approach will leverage the Tech Preview Channel, which was reserved for major new pieces of technology, like the Replication Layer and Server Meshing, but will now extend to gameplay feature testing too.

When a new feature is deemed complex or risky enough to require focused testing, we’ll introduce a separate Experimental PTU (EPTU) channel dedicated to that feature. Testing in this isolated channel will allow us to refine and stabilize the feature without impacting content and broader development work. Only once the feature is fully greenlit will it integrate into our standard Evo/PTU/Live pipeline.

Thanks for the info but after d/l the game i expected some huge improvements in it visually and obviously a big hit to my system but to be honest it looks and runs terrible compared to when i last played
2/3 years ago. I can't see my 8 core 16 thread cpu making any difference visually only giving me lower FPS . The only thing i can think of is my GPU cant process the new updated game to level of higher visual

Its not your hardware. The game's just coded by monkeys that are discovering the limits of their own work. They want far too much and what they have is barely optimized.

I have a 7800X3D and 7900XT and the game still runs like poo

Ok sounds a bit more like i was expecting. Because i remember being able to get 60/70 FPS @ 1440p medium with the same system except the m.2 drive around 2022. Man i don't know , its really annoying to be honest ...Has the Engine changed ? is it because of more detail to load ? Im an original backer and had faith in this for a long time so maybe ill delete it and wait another 2 years LOL

You should be getting the same or better fps compared to 3 years ago. If you are not, then it is something local to your system. Everyone has been overjoyed with the huge 21% performance increase we got with 4.0.

You should be getting the same or better fps compared to 3 years ago. If you are not, then it is something local to your system. Everyone has been overjoyed with the huge 21% performance increase we got with 4.0.
Mate the game is a stuttery mess in the hubs, you cant get the hardware to eliminate that. People are overjoyed... yeah. The audience thats been hanging off every word coming from Chris' lips surely. Not exactly a crowd we need to take seriously, they are already enslaved, the only thing that will cure them is the game simply not being accessible. Get real lol.

Im sure they they try hard to improve but lets not act like there is a real product here yet. There isnt. The game's still (pre) alpha at best. Its utterly silly to be buying new hardware for this.

It's been like 6 months but my only buddy who plays this game was dropping into the teens with his 3700X he has since upgraded to a 5700X3D and doubled his fps.... Assuming you are still using that 5700XT as your gpu though that is pretty slow....

There is no hardware that can achieve good FPS in cities. @r.h.p should still be getting the same or better FPS than 3 years ago.

Yeah, that sounds about right for cities.

For places where people get sub 30 FPS, the problem is the CPU. A cpu upgrade and faster memory help.
