ASUS today announced its NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards, including the all-new ROG Astral line that ushers in a new generation of performance. The ROG Astral series combines top-tier frame rates and a sleek, stellar design, with both air-cooled and liquid-cooled variants ready to power a user's next PC.

Powered by NVIDIA Blackwell, GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs bring game-changing capabilities to gamers and creators, Equipped with a massive level of AI horsepower, the RTX 50 Series enables new experiences and next-level graphics fidelity. Users can multiply performance with NVIDIA DLSS 4, generate images at unprecedented speed, and unleash creativity with NVIDIA Studio. Plus, they can access NVIDIA NIM microservices—state-of-the-art AI models that let enthusiasts and developers build AI assistants, agents, and workflows with peak performance on NIM-ready systems.

ROG Astral takes to the skies with next-level performance and design
The ROG Astral series derives its name from the relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence, inspired by the boundless mysteries of the universe, particularly the immense gravitational forces and infinite depth of black holes. ROG Astral symbolizes the powerful and limitless energy of the cosmos, pushing performance to new heights and continuously exploring uncharted territories like never before.

As the first quad-fan graphics cards from ROG, the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 take cooling to the next level with up to 20% more airflow and pressure than previous three-fan designs. This helps reduce hotspots, leading to unprecedented clock speeds.

The inclusion of a fourth fan allows for more densely-packed heatsink fins, increasing overall cooling potential. In addition, the ROG Astral GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 see the return of the ASUS-patented vapor-chamber design with milled pathways, allowing heat pipes to sink into the surface without flat edges for improved heat dissipation. And between that heatsink and the GPU, traditional thermal paste has been swapped for a premium phase-change thermal pad, which not only optimizes heat transfer but also increases the longevity of the thermal interface material. Liquifying by design to effectively fill the gaps between the GPU and the heatsink, this phase-change GPU thermal pad's superior thermal conductivity helps ensure optimal performance and durability of graphics cards under heavy load.

The ROG Astral series is built for enthusiasts and overclockers, which means premium power delivery is a must. Powerful 80-amp MOSFETs allow for more than 35% extra headroom than standard designs, for enhanced stability and higher overclocking potential. At the same time, a protective PCB coating helps protect against short-circuits caused by moisture or dust, which means these cards are built to last.

All of this is encased in an ultra-rigid metal frame, fan shroud and backplate with a slick new design that evokes futuristic starships. And as a top-of-the-line series, ROG Astral also supports the latest advanced features in GPU Tweak III, including a Thermal Map of the PCB, Power Detector+ to check the 12VHPWR connection, and a Mileage tracker that logs power usage over the lifespan of the card. Add to these features two FanConnect II headers for controlling case fans and a Dual BIOS switch that lets users choose between maximum performance and quiet operation—all of it amounts to an incredible graphics card that can handle nearly anything thrown at it.

For liquid cooling enthusiasts, ASUS also offers the ROG Astral LC GeForce RTX 5090. Featuring many of the same features as its air-cooled cousin, the LC version opts for a low-profile heatsink under the shroud, with a full-coverage cold plate that allows the extra-thick 360 mm radiator to cool the GPU and other heat-producing components on the PCB. Featuring up to 30% better thermal performance than air cooling, the ROG Astral LC GeForce RTX 5090 is an ideal choice for scoring powerful performance with quiet operation.

ROG Strix, ASUS TUF Gaming, and ASUS Prime fill out the lineup
The ROG Astral series is not the only family of graphics cards gracing the ASUS lineup this generation. Gamers looking for a powerful GeForce RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5070 graphics card should look at the ROG Strix variants, featuring striking designs and a host of features, including a vented exoskeleton, Dual BIOS switch, high-end power delivery, phase-change GPU thermal pad and Aura Sync.

For ultra-reliable performance that can suit any PC build, the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 are all excellent choices. Like the ROG Astral series, TUF Gaming models feature the phase-change thermal compound, a protective PCB coating and military-grade components for durability, plus a vapor chamber on the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080. Certified military-grade TUF chokes and MOSFETs deliver rock-solid power to the CPU, which can help improve system stability. Meanwhile, TUF 5K black metallic capacitors provide 52% wider temperature tolerance and a lifespan up to 2.5 times longer than standard capacitors.

Finally, ASUS Prime graphics cards also join the launch, featuring the phase-change thermal compound and tri-fan cooling. And for the GeForce RTX 5080, 5070 Ti and 5070 models, a 2.5-slot design that meets the SFF-Ready Enthusiast GeForce Card guideline provides broad compatibility at an attractive price. At the same time, the ASUS Prime GeForce RTX 5080 still features a vapor chamber for thermal performance users can count on.

Man, that ROG Astral 5090 is probably going to be mind blowingly expensive. But I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't purchase one if I could. Looks like that it's everything I like in a graphics card and more.

5070 looks interesting, the spec is a tiny uplift from 4070 though and similar price.

Only the 5090 looks a decent generational improvement but it's costs 2k+.

Ultimately as expected, loads of AI spamming but little generational improvement and the same or higher prices.

Dang ASUS, you know what'd be really premium? Non melty power plugs.
I'm gonna have to sit it out and wait to see if this gen has another safety risk to it, but god with the variety of custom cards I'm shocked nobody made an 8 pin variant of 4080/4090s to see if there was a market for it.
It's like someone at nvidia has a 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 fetish and is holding a gun to the board partners and saying that using the new power plugs is an essential feature.
Meanwhile AMD partners are showing off 9070s with 8 pins.
If AMD was competitive for my purpose I'd just go with them and be done with it, but I may just buy nothing at all, again.

Yuuup. ROG White cards are just amazing. I love how 4080 Strix looks like. But I am probably gonna pick a TUF this time around, if I end up buying ASUS. My current build is white, but I plan on getting a Y70 Silver Wolf case when they show up here.

It bloody hasnt. They just announced a new revision. Its shit.

I am sick of arguing. This failure just needs to go. Bring back 8 pin. Nothing was wrong with it.

Sure, buddy ;) . Meanwhile, dozens of millions of gamers worldwide have been running their graphics cards with 12VHPWR (mostly not even the newer revision) connectors just fine for ~24+ months now.

It is a complete non-issue. I personally love having only one cable from my PSU to the graphics card for a cleaner build. It's awesome. My RTX 4090 has been running flawlessly from day 1 and I was an early adopter (October 2022). I have even... *GASP*... unplugged and replugged the power connector on the card quite a few times when I swapped or installed new parts or when I built my new system. Never had a single problem.

nVidia has a 90% market share in consumer GPUs (yes, not all of them RTX 4000 series, ofc, but still...) and there are literally another dozens of millions of these cards running in professional environments with that very power connector.

Non-issue remains a non-issue. Go ahead and buy an AMD card though if you are too afraid to handle a simple power connector :D .

My old boss from the '70's would say "If you have to ask the price you can't afford it." Not this time Dub Young.
These will be so cheap I'll get the liquid cooled. I got room in my new Lian-Li O11 XL case. Although I ran 4090 for 2 years air-cooled w/o issue.
Motivated I am. Now for that 9950X3D.

Same and same. Everybody hated that 4 plug adapter. The CableMod right angle adapter worked fine too but I destroyed it and got my money back and be quiet! made a perfect cable for it.

Announced and implemented it back in 2023... the problems are fixed... there's no need to argue, just accept that the connector is here to stay I guess

The power connector issue has been fixed for almost 2 years now... are we gonna pretend that they haven't forever?

Why do you think it's been fixed for 2 years? 12V-2x6 has only been used on things that use less power than the 4090, the one that had the problem, and now the 5090 is set to use more power than it.
The 5090 is set to use much closer to the power limit of the cables than 8 pins were ever used for, so I'll just wait and see. Maybe they do melt maybe they don't, but I'm not going to be gambling it.

The CableMod right angle adapter worked fine too but I destroyed it and got my money back and be quiet! made a perfect cable for it.

The cablemod connector that was officially recalled due to being a safety risk? https://www.techpowerup.com/316977/cablemod-recalls-12vhpwr-v1-0-and-v1-1-angled-adapters
Or did they make a non-melting one later?

Non-melting model. The original. This one didn't melt. It was manually destroyed and they gave my money back via (eyeroll) Paypal.

These will be so cheap I'll get the liquid cooled. I got room in my new Lian-Li O11 XL case. Although I ran 4090 for 2 years air-cooled w/o issue.
Motivated I am. Now for that 9950X3D.
Oh, I know that I can't afford it I am broke! - something really expensive died on me and I need to fix/replace it... makes me really sad (on that price could get 3 5090-s will not comment more on this).
I already have the 9950X which will serve me well at least until 2027 I guess.
Wish it had like 16 more PCIe lanes tho....

I'm limiting my mobo to one M.2 slot and the 4090 to run at 16X. I have the 7950X. I'm burning money but I'm old and I can't take it with me. Leave it to Grandson.
But I get it for more 5.0 x16 lanes.

5090 Astral somewhat resembles the 4090 Matrix.
Price will surely be 2500 USD.
