I’ve been having serious issues with my 3080 Ti that I bought six months ago, and I’m getting really frustrated with how things are being handled.

The GPU keeps black-screening, and the fans ramp up to 100% after about 30 seconds in any game. I purchased the card in-store from Memory Express, and they told me it came with a one-year warranty. They also mentioned that it had been refurbished by Gigabyte.

When the card started failing, I sent it to Memory Express under warranty. After waiting two weeks with no updates, I called them. They told me Gigabyte confirmed there was an issue with the card and that it was being fixed. Two weeks later, I called again to check on the status, and now they’re saying Gigabyte found no problems and is shipping the card back to me as is.

I’m beyond confused did they fix it or not? And why are there conflicting updates? I’ve been waiting over a month now, and to make matters worse, a game I’ve been hyped for is dropping on the 27th. At this rate, I won’t even have a working GPU to play it. What am I supposed to do here? Has anyone dealt with something similar with a Gigabyte card?

Do you have the card back or is it still coming back from Gigabyte? When you get it back, I would look it over and check for any documentation. Sometimes they will have a packing slip or other documentation showing what they did, if anything.

You have run into a few problems...

1. The YOU problem - If you cant wait for the GPU to come back. Buy another one either as a stop gap/temporary solution or buy a permanent solution and sell the RMAd card when it comes back.

2. The Gigabyte problem - They dont have the greatest track record when it comes to RMAs.

2.5. The 'other' Gigabyte problem - They are Taiwanese and Chinese New Year is on the 29th of Jan. Like it or not there will be a delay. Chinese people take CNY very very seriously. Its basically a public holiday for two weeks so you are going to need to be patient.

3. RMA lead time - From my experience. Unless youre getting a 1:1 replacement directly from a local retailer. It can take a month or two, Maybe even three at the worst before you get your loot back.
If they need to send it somewhere and this somewhere being overseas - i.e. Taiwan. Then you are going to be in for a long long long ass wait. The RMA process is a long one. Thats why we all dread and hate it when its our turn.

---

if youre in a real hurry. What you can do is Ask Memory Express is if they can get in touch with Gigabyte regarding your RMA and get them to issue you CASH CREDIT/Partial Reimbursement instead of giving you a card back so you can buy something else. But the thing with that is they'll give you STREET VALUE for the card according to Gigabyte and Street Value doesnt always add up to very much. If they dont have any 3080Ti's to give you. They'll give you something of equal performance or issue you credit.

I've been through all of these things over the years.

Unfortunately for you its bad luck and bad timing.

::EDIT::

Also, I dont mean to come off rude or a dick. Im just extremely blunt IRL.

When I get the card back or when I call on Friday, I’m going to ask Memory Express for a partial refund. After this whole mess with Gigabyte, I’ve decided I’m done with them. Once I get the card, I’ll just sell it and buy a new AMD GPU instead. I’m over dealing with Gigabyte and plan to avoid them completely from now on.

I had decent luck with Gigabyte.

But I am unsure why you went through memex rather than just sending it yourself? I never used MemEx warranty for anything unless just within return period.

The other part about this you didn't mention, that two weeks can and often does translate into several MONTHS of shipping backlogs for tons of goods and services. CNY is not something to brush off. Plan around it. Plan FAR around it. The last item I ordered around CNY took around 7mon to finally get to me and it was already a small product that's very easy to lose in the INTL postal system. Beware of all of it.

Sometimes the manufacturer will ask that you go through an authorised distribution partner i.e the retailer you bought the card from. Sapphire is one of them. Im not quite sure about the others but ive RMAd a hell of a lot of sapphire cards in the past.

I think manufacturers pay some of their retail partners to test potentially faulty hardware before getting them RTB'd just to make sure faulty hardware is faulty.

I had the same with an Evga 2070. Unfortunately, the card is dead. Whether Gigabyte acknowledges it and replaces it for you is up to them, unfortunately. I wish you good luck!

Gigabytes rma dept have been blaming the end user or denying there are problems, so you got a bad deal

If you get an AMD Card - Sapphire, PowerColor, XFX, AsRock, stay away from Asus, MSI, and ofc Gigabyte.

Their focus is on nv cards, look at how poorly built the rx 5700xt evoke was from them, gamers nexus roasted them over it. And Fyi it stems from nv gpp.

The hsf they design is not tailored for amd like it is for nv

It is why I wrote what I wrote
