What other option was there at the 899$ MSRP the 4070ti launched at? Or even the 4070S.I would like to inform people thant rtx 4070 and rtx 4070 super aren't great cards because of 12gb vram. they're terrible

The 4060ti 16gb can play better with those settings than a 4070ti? Bro you are already below 50 fps...there are right now 4060 ti 16gb, 4080 and 4080 super and will be 5070 ti
imho 4070, 4070 super and 5070 are avoidable because insufficient vram

So a choice between a terribly priced card and two 1000+ flagships. Three, potentially, since I am sure we all know that the 5070Ti won’t sell at MSRP. Outstanding.there are right now 4060 ti 16gb, 4080 and 4080 super and will be 5070 ti
That’s what the VRAM debate always comes down to - cherry picking results proving ones point. Thousands upon thousands of people bought, say, 4070s and I am sure the vast majority of them are playing their games and aren’t particularly bothered by some theoretical VRAM deficit.Open your mind to what other people need and not being upset over VRAM limits that you have. You also cherry picked one of the hardest possible games to run anyway.

Oh no, not SW Outlaws. The game that I am sure a lot… some… three… maybe one and a half people give a shit about. As for C2077 - yes, it’s a 4 year old game. I know this might be a shocker, but I imagine quite a lot of people played and finished it successfully over these 4 years. Some of them, bizzarely, did so on 12 or less gig cards. The fact that they added more experimental graphics options since and that one CAN force the game to run a lot of VRAM does not, however, make it unplayable. Are you, per chance, allergic to running settings other than “Epic Ultra Overdrive Extreme Nightmare OMFGBBQ I shat my pants” presets? Because if so, well, to quote a famous gay porno “It’s not MY problem - it’s YOURS”.but if cyberpunk is 5 years old and take over 12gb vram think about star wars outlaws with preset outlaws. I can bare fit it in 16 gb vram. I can benchmark later by request.

Can any of those 16gb cards you mentioned get above 20 fps though with the settings you are using?of course you can buy a lot of amd cards with 16gb and as well arc a770. perhaps Intel can make b770 >16gb any time now.
I ran Path Tracing on 3080 10GB with no stuttering. I bet the way he cherry picks, someone with a 4090/7900 could "prove" his 16gb insufficient12GB isn't enough for you. Don't speak for others when you present one game that was known since launch to be a resource hog.
Ran 2077 on even 4GB cards fine, just don't go full stupid and crank everything to max. Brains are supposed to be used, not abused.

In practice both are the same, you cant allocate the same memory address twice. Is that allocated VRAM or actual, in-use VRAM? There's a big difference

Higher textures doesnt slow down frame rate, its a VRAM specific thing, there is also more games now that have VRAM loaded settings, a recent DF video for a game showed 3 settings were VRAM specific and had minimal impact on GPU processing load.Nvidia needs to release a rtx 5050 with 32 gigs so that people can finally calm down. So that they can happily crank up all the settings to the max and play games with 10-20 fps with ultra textures.

The main problem with the vram argument is that sure, 12gb isn't sufficient if you want max textures and max RT in all games. But if you want RT the competition lags heavily in performance, so it's not like that extra vram is going to help you. If you are not going to be using RT at all then 12gb is enough so no point for this discussion in the first place. In practice both are the same, you cant allocate the same memory address twice.
Likewise as I keep saying in these threads, you cant just measure performance either, you have to look at pop in's, level of detail (as now days its dynamic in new games), game stability, stutters (which might not be picked up by software), and for textures or other assets that are completely missing.
This is before even talking about caching, background running apps and so on.
Of course I accept the points made in the thread as well that for many consumers 12gig will be fine, especially if you only play older or non AAA games.
Generally speaking I find it hard to recommend GPU options to people now, as for moral reasons I wont send someone off to spend £500 plus on a GPU that has under spec'd VRAM. So for those who can afford it, I will tell them 16 gig is the minimum to buy, for those who cant I will point to Intel. At least those cards are cheap enough to reflect the problem.

It isnt enough for all games without RT and max VRAM settings, you pretty much side stepped my points by saying that. Sure the game will run, doesnt mean its enough though. The main problem with the vram argument is that sure, 12gb isn't sufficient if you want max textures and max RT in all games. But if you want RT the competition lags heavily in performance, so it's not like that extra vram is going to help you.
