Support and properly run processors are 2 different things unfortunately.
No. First "properly run"? What does that even mean?

"Support" and "runs properly" are the same thing when running with the default settings with adequate case cooling.

It makes absolutely no sense for Gigabyte, ASUS or MSI to claim "support" if the "supported" CPUs will not run at Intel's reported speeds. And it is just ludicrous to claim the boards will melt with that CPU at stock speeds.

As seen here, Intel reports the H610 chipset is compatible with the 13600KF.

Come on you guys! Where's your supporting evidence? The forums would be awash with them for both the boards and the processors. Are you really going to claim all these companies are willing to open themselves up to lawsuits for false advertising?

Yes Bill, but I think there are some facts that are skewed.

Firstly, a motherboard manufacturer alters the use of H610 chipset to "support" high wattage cpus, but those processors won't be using a lot of wattage.

Here's an AI generated list of processors that would be recommended for a 65w capable chipset

Here is Tom's hardware running a 12900K which gets very gimped on this chipset.

Here is a link to Tom's hardware which tested this and backs our statements. I do not have the hardware to run the tests personally, so this will have to do.

You are twisting the facts and conditions to support your argument.

The OP does not have the i9-12900K. Nor did the OP say anything about overclocking.

Your article clearly states, "Performance in our game testing was good". And it goes on to say, "if you don’t plan on overclocking and will be using an appropriate chip for this class of board, these inexpensive H610 options are a great way to get into Alder Lake".

Yes, in some scenarios high tasking scenarios, there may be throttling. Stress testing was one of those scenarios. But is stress testing normal use? No. It didn't say anything about the chipset melting at stock speeds using the 13600KF.

As I said above, these are not high end boards. I also said buyers need to do their homework and buy the right board for their intended use.

This is a technical support forum. What's wrong with simply stating the technical "facts" about a device's abilities and limitation, rather than spreading FUD with exaggerated misrepresentations?

PBtech has better boards in the same price range.

I certainly would not get an H610 when a B760 is available for less (or even similar) money.

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MBDGBM61215/Gigabyte-B760M-Gaming-Plus-WIFI-DDR4-mATX-Motherbo This one is better and 17 NZ dollars cheaper.

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MBDASU61332/ASUS-B760M-AYW-WIFI-mATX-Motherboard-Intel-Socket This one is only 16 NZ dollars more and is ddr5.

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MBDGBM62410/Gigabyte-B860M-EAGLE-WIFI6-mATX-Motherboard-For-In and 40 NZ buckaroos more will get you a B860.

You are really gonna want ddr5 with that i5-13600kf.

When it comes to Intel, I've always been of the mindset that there isn't really any need to have a K-series cpu if you don't have a Z-series motherboard for it (like a Z790 for an i5-13600kf). Not really going to lose much performance wise, but you will have much less worry about power circuitry and cooling.

Are you buying all your stuff from PBtech?

I personally would not build a new computer or upgrade a motherboard today unless it did support DDR5. It does not make sense (to me) to buy new, old, superseded technologies.

I also am not a huge (no pun intended) fan of µATX motherboards. I tend to keep computers I build for myself for at least 5 to 8 years with the distinct probability I will upgrade, expand and "evolve" my computer as advances in the technologies come about, and/or as my needs change - just to stretch the useful, productive, and satisfying life out of my build.

But I am not a soothsayer. I know there are many new and/or improved technologies coming later this year (DDR6, for example). I don't know if I will have a need (or itch) to adapt them right away. But I do know I want to keep as many options open as possible - even if it costs me a little more up front. This means I like a motherboard that supports 4 sticks as in almost every case, it is cheaper to increase RAM by adding 2 more sticks than replacing the current 2 with 2 bigger sticks. Most µATX boards only have 2 RAM slots due to space limitations - not to mention costs.

So I go for ATX boards - even though they tend to cost more initially. But they also typically support more drives, more expansion cards, more I/O ports, etc. There certainly are some great µATX boards out there, but the cramped real estate limits options and crams everything in tight. I like the greater breathing space of an ATX board. I've seen more instances of physical conflicts with large graphics cards and large CPU coolers, even tall RAM sticks and µATX boards than I have with ATX boards.

But we still don't know the OP's current system specs. :( He may have a SFF case and is stuck with a µATX size motherboard.

Nah, i just used that website as an example. I will get parts in exactly 2 week time. Yeah i know 13600kf would benefit from ddr5 but im on very tight budget....very tight. Im thinking also about ryzen 3600 and AM4 and then upgrade to 5800x.

So the board H610 and cpu 12100 are a combo deal, or buying separately?

Either way, I have a 14100F I would be willing to trade the 12100 for if you cover shipping costs. But use the 12100 to update bios first....

If this is good, and you're in the USA, find my PM box. :)

Im from europe mate. The Don is in charge now and by hearing his constant views on tariffs there is not much left to say...
I get one used in poland for like $50...then used rx 6600 xt and the rest of the system brand new.

I've never been a fan of Intel's Hx10 motherboards because they lack features that you can find on Bx60 boards that don't cost a lot more. These Hx10/Hx1 boards did fine back in the days when Intel was still making Quad-Core i7 processors for their mainstream platforms.

A couple years ago I got my hands on some lga1200 parts. I tried pairing the Core i7-10700k up with an Asus Prime B560M-A and an Asus Strix Z590-A. Out of the box the Z590 board sets the power limits high, and the 10700k would run at 4.7GHz across all cores while running a stress test. The B560 board on the other hand would run the 10700k at 4.2GHz to 4.3GHz across all cores. Both boards did fine with the Core i5-11400 just as long as I used a good cooler with it.

New Zealand website as a guide for buying a motherboard in Europe? ok...

If we knew where you were ordering from, and where you are at, and what you were putting it in.....we could be more help on choosing what to get.
