AMD RTG team has really evolved from shooting its foot to high jump on a landmine. Cannot remember worst cock-up of any hardware launch last 2 decades. Even that nVidia horsesh*t unlaunch of 4080 12GB was lesser joke than this. Cards shipped, 23rd Jan release date and now this... My guess is they are waiting for 5070/5070Ti launch/performance/price and go to classic "nVidia -10%". And that suppose to be "clawing back the marketshare".

5% marketshare - here we come :D

Yeah, Microcenter already has cards lol....

Someone already unboxed one....

We generally know where the 70 series sits about 15-25% above the vanilla version they replace or barely faster than the super versions.... Now they get to launch vs nothing and everyone is going to buy them instead... That was probably going to be the case anyways but now they are 100% selling out on Day 1.

Hear me out, they have developers working 24/7 to add those two additional fake frames to FSR4 FG, so they can also claim that 9070 is faster than 4090!

They should partner with Lossless scaling and go 10x FTW 9070 non XT destroys the 5090 muhahahhahahahahahhahhahahahahahahh......

The wait is agonising, I want to believe this (and the other cumulative steps taken so far with the 90070 series) are a well calculated move that will lead to a great launch.... but history has taught otherwise.

It'll be interesting when it's all said and done to look back and more clearly understand the rationale... or lack thereof.

This "launch" just simply screams that they do not care about gaming market, discrete GPUs for gaming to be specific.
AI, CPUs, Laptops, AI, Handhelds, Consoles, AI those yeah, but GPUs for consumers not really.

Some people are overreacting. It's a midrange card. It doesn't need to launch immediately.

Is it really that smart to launch a product before summer?

End of March 2025 maybe and the initial wait period because it's unavailable makes the product purchasable around may 2025.

Thanks AMD. They give me a bit more time to think about selling my graphic card. (I only want an amd graphic card. Or the ryzen graphic which I already have).

If they would really want to go after market share and sell those GPUs as they have said "that is the price point that most gamers are buying GPUs from" then they would launch it already and with a price that really makes nvidia seem like a bad choice. By March everybody will have 5070's and 5070 Ti's or used 4070 supers and 4070 ti's super.

The only thing that makes sense to me at least is the 9070XT was going to be $6-700 and the 9070 was going to be $450-550 and Nvidia blew that all up with their lower than expected pricing. Now they want to see how those cards actually do before committing to a price.

I don't really think it's the date it's the whole launch in general... Retailers already have the cards 2 months early..... They seemingly were ready to announce the product and likely got spooked by Nvidia's lower than expected pricing.

Or even more so used 3080/3090 series GPUs because they go for VERY sweet prices in some countries. Anyway, we're on the same wave. Even today is very, very late for this launch because it's very few who's in the market for a GPU these days. Should've been November so they could have had profits off Christmas and New Year related purchases. Now pockets are full o'void and AMD are banking on a whole lot of nothing. Yawn.

I doubt that too. Pricing doesn't take months to correct.

It does when you want to see reviews of your competitors products prior to pricing your own products and the March date lines up perfectly with the 70 series likely coming late Feb....

This would be so damaging... if it was real. And this guy is not. His position does not exist. Were this from people by the name of, say, Andrej Zdravkovic, Nazar Zaidi, David Wang, Jack Huynh, Mark Fuselier, or Martin Ashton, this might be a verifiable statement.

But it's not. It's just some fake person impersonating a position of authority at AMD for the sake of... trolling? Misinformation? I dunno. Bottom line is, don't trust Twitter for anything. Given state of supply and the amount of product pictures surfacing, launch of the 9070XT is within the next 2-3 weeks.

Marketing needs to be completely overhauled and laid off. New leaders need to come in both the engineers and marketing teams and present a clear, consistent philosophy. My 2 cents.

Agreed, Radeon marketing especially as they keep fumbling launches. I think the launch date doesn't matter so much with a mid range card but if the retailers have cards these should launch in February at the latest.

I find it weird if he isn't on AMD's site since he is the VP of the Ryzen team, even weirder why he would make the announcement and not Frank Azor or Jack Hyun, or anyone from the Radeon team.

I wrote last week that Nvidia scared the piss out of AMD at CES. I’m betting DLSS 4 just absolutely clobbered AMD and they are scrambling to put together something - anything - that can compete.

Another Major Disappointment

This lines up perfectly with how RDNA4 has gone down let this dude get the hate

He's been with AMD at least 2 years afaik. He's verified on X which probably doesn't mean a whole lot but I know I've seen him during press events etc.

I'm not even hating lol I'm wondering why AMD themselves doesn't recognize the guy, anyway I'll just be patient and see how these cards stack up. It seems most enthusiasts can't handle waiting a bit.

Ah yes here comes the name calling, might as well call AMD users the "amdumbs" and say AMD is "amdone" because it feels like I'm reading wccf sometimes.
And I'm not even sure why most in this thread even care, and are already Nvidia buyers, just keep buying whatever the leather jacket man says is good and enjoy the monopoly.

Hear me out, they have developers working 24/7 to add those two additional fake frames to FSR4 FG, so they can also claim that 9070 is faster than 4090!
Bashing AMD for fake frames is hella stupid since Nvidia does it even in their PR material.

All this upscaling, fake frames and other bullshit has totally ruined PC gaming since developers can just rely on them instead of actually optimizing their games.

2900 XT was arguably worse
Exactly. I still remember all the hype and delays from 18 years ago.

Apologies, I phrased myself excessively poorly. What I mean is, that Twitter profile can't be proven to be the real David McAfee. McAfee at AMD is part of Ryzen product management (which, given his other responsibilities, likely involves his need to be informed about projects in the works) and the 'client channel business' department, or more accurately client communications and marketing.

The 'David McAfee' on Twitter is likely not real. It doesn't help that the little blue badge was only acquired 'sometime in January 2025' rather than around the time of the account's creation, when he would have already been working for the company in his current very public position, nevermind that he for some reason hadn't made made a Twitter account until '22 for his professional appearance during either his near 18-year history with AMD or his 6-year history on LinkedIn. AFAIK, only his LinkedIn is verifiably him. Anything else is easier falsifiable than veritable. The only tie to AMD is that he's followed by an account presenting itself as Anush Elangovan, who is part of a different department in a different location and whose account is similarly suspect.

TL;DR too much of the account's details are suspiciously off and it's setting off my 'fake shit' alarms.

I suggest you do some introspection as to why you are so emotionally attached to AMD. You know they don’t even know you exist, right? I didn’t mention AMD users at all, and never called anyone dumb for using their products. Yet you read all of that in my post. That’s all in your head.

The only company you should be a fan of is the one that signs your paycheck.

P.S. I’ll bet I own at least 2x the amount of AMD equipment as you do. Do I need to start posting pictures?
