I'm a little surprised we don't have anything like this already on the forums!

Since we are all high IQ, smart, classy people I am certain that a lot of people here need a jump start every morning with something caffeinated. So this thread is the thread to discuss coffee and don't forget, tea though it is less popular in the States. Feel free to share recommendations, or just post how you take your morning cuppa Joe.

Hoping this is/can be productive and we can relax and share recommendations for others to try.

Please post pictures of your morning coffee or tea, espresso machines, coffee makers, milk frothers, french presses and all that stuff if you spend a lot of money to have excellent coffee in the morning!

Most of all, enjoy whatever you're drinking to perk you up!

Tea? Coffee? Morning? It's 02:29 am here and I have just finished my bottle of coke.

On a more serious note, I just can't stand the taste of coffee. No matter the blend, no matter the brand. No matter the method. No matter the temperature. No matter my condition. Always ends yucksters.

My favourite caffeinated drink is morbidly black tea and it's mostly drunk for its deep taste rather than for its caffeine. I don't get any kick and work deadlines so it don't matter when I wake up so I have all the time in the world to rest well in my sleep.

I do love a classic coffee with creamer, but that's not nearly enough caffeine to start my engine. I'd need about four full cups to get near seeing straight.

No machines, makers, frothers and presses here. Just the good ole kettle, a spoon, some classic tea bags and a wireless + ultimate energy efficient hand, stirring it to perfection.

I could take a snap of my hand if you like :D

After about 25 years, I just tried coffee with sweet condensed milk again. It's just as delightful as I remembered.

Coffee, it is kept relatively simple and cheap in this household:

IMG_20250120_181426426_HDR.jpg

We use a Cuisinart drip machine. Every morning, I get a french vanilla (usually 8 o'clock coffee brand) from the single serve on the right. The main pot usually has regular, unflavored coffee but it's certainly not Folgers or any large brand. My brother-in-law recently went to Costa Rica and sent us a bag of Costa Rican coffee (Arabica I think) in the mail, so we've been using that in the main pot but we have others. I generally drink two cups in the morning - the French vanilla and one cup of whatever is in the larger carafe.

Other than that, we have a fairly large collection of what I call "junk coffee", well because it is. In addition to my French vanilla, we have Berres Brothers mocha mint, Highlander Grogg, 8 o'clock caramel macchiato, mocha macchiato, and a bunch of others. They're all sugary junk- I suppose I could drink them without sugar, but they really need it. We rarely make these anymore.

I am by no means a coffee snob, but I would consider myself a tea expert or at least a strong tea afficinado, but that will have to be covered in another post tomorrow.

Glad to see this thread already getting some posts- thanks guys.

I've used milk with as long as I remember, and I stopped using sugar with coffee over 20 years ago. Tastes much better this way.

Looks hella handy machine, never seen a similar one myself though. Practically there's a "normal" coffee machine in every Finnish household

edit: here's mine. Wrote those texts of the buttons on a paper under a tape in case those wear off one day.

I'm a coffee snob, but I don't mind drinking instant as long as nobody tries to argue that it's as good as freshly ground and brewed coffee beans; For a start, there's barely any caffeine in instant coffee which mostly defeats the purpose of wanting a coffee, and nobody can argue that it tastes or smells as good.

I tend to French-press, or Aeropress my coffee and 99% of my coffee budget has gone on quality grinders and good quality beans over the years. My most recent purchase was a MiiCoffee DF64 grinder in 2023 because I'm too lazy to use the manual ceramic burr grinder most of the time, and I tend to buy small batches of single-origin beans and keep them in the fridge - currently working through a few different bags from Exe Coffee Roasters - Personal preference is a macchiato/cortado - i.e. a black coffee with a dash of cold milk. I do own a DeLonghi espresso machine and a coffee siphon but the cheapo plastic Aeropress beats those in both taste and convenience.

My favourite beans are Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee but that's too expensive to really daily-drive, so the fallback "bulk" coffee when I've exhausted my gift or small-batch coffee is Ueshima Kenyan which is easily twice the price of the beans you find in the supermarkets here, but still basically nothing compared to Jamaican beans, or getting your coffee made for you on the high street.

The only instant coffee I drink is the freeze-dried one you can find in a glass jar. I love a good coffee, but I'm usually a zombie after waking up, so the freeze-dried one will do 9 out of 10 times.

Packet instant coffee is disgusting, I give you that. Except for maybe frappe. Frappe is nice on a hot summer day.

For us smokers, it bypasses time a little to put the machine on and have a cigarette, it's almost always ready after having a smoke.

Have you tried Aeropress? It's nearly as quick as instant if you buy ground coffee but tastes so much better!

Instant coffee is disgusting and for plebeians.

Only way to make coffee is jungle style (or called cowboy style).

Stir it a little, wait for a boil, pour into funnel strainer over a mug.

I like doing that but without the heating. Cold brew. Let it steep for 12-24 hours, it makes it less acidic to do it cold.

My go to. I'll use Earl Grey if i want milk tea. I like coffee, but it doesn't play nice with my tummy, so i don't drink it.
That, Lipton or Red Diamond for me, who ever is available and costs the least, I do like an English tea from time to time. I drink coffee at work or get 1 while driving.

I personally go for a double shot of espresso in the morning. With the water turned up so it's like an extra strong Americano.

And then another around 10AM. We have one of those full automatic espresso machines at work. And hand-roasted beans, as one of the owners runs a coffee roaster as a hobby job.

Oh, and I generally drink my coffee black.
