I miss this, buying PC mag and it came with CD with goodies. Game demos, free software, exclusive full software version and most importantly graphics driver :D Very important when you don't have internet connection at home back in the day
I have a big binder full of Maximum Pc cds from back in the day. It was a awesome time.

I looked around in my storage boxes today and found my Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO so here are some photos with the GTO2 as well :D

Sadly I do not have a 2xsata to pci-e adapter for my windows xp itx rig otherwise I would have connected my X800 GTO2 today and played some games with.
I can't believe it! I also have 2 Sapphires X800GTO and mine are PCI-E but they are completely different from your two. How many modifications have they had?

I have Radeon x850XT Platinum, but reference also OEM for DELL, but is still the high end so is fine... Tho i prefer the AGP version (i also have the same card as AGP, sapphire one, but it did die, prob needs small repair), instead, but still this is ok...
Screenshot_20250120_170956_Photos.jpg

Not interested in cards less then the top high end model, so the GTO is useless for me... As i like to say life is too short for average parts, storage space is not enough, also waste of time and money... That is for my collection... For selling purposes or trades i get everything of value...

Also i like way more the reference red color, the blue one is not the ATi/ Radeon color... Is also why i not like as much my HIS Radeon HD3850 AGP IceQ 3 card, cuz of the damn color, but still the card is amazing aside from that...

After so many years, I have finally secured the case I was so long searching for. This time, from Kaunas, Lithuania.
s-l1600.jpg

A bit pricey at @ 140 euros, but I really didn't care what price I'd be landing at. I've made it my goal to find it and own it again. I'll likely sell the current innards it comes with (DG41TX, E6500) and build something of an "upgrade" to my original configuration I had way back in @2003-04 (which funny enough, according to my dad who managed to remember most of its details, claimed it was... a K6-2.)

A few choices I have:

- Slot A -> K7 Pro MS-6195
- Socket 370 -> ABIT BX133-RAID
- Slot 1 -> tie between BE6-II HPT366, MS-6163, MS-6168, BH6 and QDI P6I440BX
- Super Socket 7 -> either Epox EP-51MVP3E-M or FIC PA-2013

Hey man this looks serious. I never knew this could be done and somehow legal and considered normal. This is not exactly overclocking but modding. Well done I think I learned an interesting lesson.

View attachment 380725

I've never seen such cards. :) I hope that one day fate will bring me face to face with them... at least to see and test them. Bravo and good luck!

Happened upon a nice pair of DX9 Curie cards for the collection, and indeed for what I'd consider a sweet spot in performance and capability for the collection of games on my XP rig. Both need a little TLC.

Surprisingly good performers relative to my expectations, I presumed the cut down chips wouldn't perform as well but all the 20:7:20:16 and 24:8:24:16 core config chips, there isn't much in it at all and the bigger changes come from clocks. Only the poor 7800GS AGP with its 16:8:16:8 (mainly those 8 ROPS I'd imagine) suffers the significant dropoff.

Both are - GeForce 7900GS 256M PCI-E

An old dice pot I made way back when.

Looks like M3A32-MVP WIFI Deluxe motherboard. Probably running the Athlon 6400+ for reaching 4ghz validation.

Shoulda kept it, but gave it away for someone else to use.

Here there's that old Antec CP series 850w I junked last year. Good times.

Edit. Looked at upload date. June to July 2010.

Latest finds, it is obvious who the star is in here...

20250121_082528.jpg

Terratec ESW64 S. Funally found another ISA big audio card aside from Creative only. Now waiting for Turtle Beach Pinnacle, Miro Yamaha sound, ADlib Gold (this one is prob as rare as Voodoo V 6K..), Gravis UltraSound with the AMD chip..

20250121_082630.jpg

The ELSA S3, nothing special, but god damn the build quality is 10 times better, then ur average S3 garbage cards... A real winner for sure...

20250121_082821.jpg20250121_082935.jpg

The rest is just for making money purposes... That Albatron is crap for me, but some guy did look for one to buy, so i got it...

Albatron board, I miss their brand. Used to have Albatron 845E and 845G chipset, the G having higher memory bandwidth in synthetic benchmark and scored higher scores in 3DMark. Yours PX865PE Lite Pro the name is deceiving it uses 848 chipset that only have single channel RAM instead of 865 chipset that is one thing I still remember till today.

Well as far as i know Albatron was company found by former GIGAbyte engineers, so the colors of the boards and the Dual BIOS was the same... I dont think Albatron was any special, it was like BIOstar a bit better prob and like Soltek, tho Soltek and EPoX was cheap OC brands... I miss AOpen and the old ABIT before the bankrupcy and the crappy universal abit, and to some degree DFI and mostly LanParty.... But since i have customer for the Albatron i did buy it, so i can sell if it boots, and get some money back for some of the rest parts...

DFI's last boards were also made by Gigabyte. It's one reason I've kinda hated them - they shared similar quirks to then-current Gigabyte boards.

Moved to ASUS and uniABIT and didn't look back. Didn't hate Gigabyte but hated DFI's move of letting someone else build their BIOSes for the P35/P45 Lanparty series.

Speaking of GB and ASUS.....
20250121_130515.jpg

Rampage 2 Extreme + 12GB HyperX + i7 960, and GB X58-USB3 + 18GB DDR3 (3x4GB + 3x2GB) + Xeon E5530. The one era they finally got down right.

Also forgot to post my AWE32.... dang it.

Hah very nice finds specially if were dirt cheap, x58 is my favorite platform that my backUP heater PC uses the same platform, is still very usable as daily driver and also i dont need real heater, as x58 is stove, the OC i7 980x at 4.5GHz is also stove and R9 280x also, so it makes up for great heater in winter times, just tuen 3D game on, and after 2hrs u have 10c +...... I will like to find GIGAbyte G1 assasin too... I wonder also what the max OC the best x58 CPU can get i7 990x EE or Xeon w3690 maybe near 5GHz...

I find that very odd that last LanParty mobos BIOSes were made by GIGAbyte engineers what happened with the ABIT engineer Oskar Wu he used to make great ABIT bioese and great OC boards then moved to DFI to form da LanParty... Not to mention that GIGAbyte are the best HW wise but their BIOS was always crap, and still is... I may not like asus at all, garbage UNreliable boards HW wise, but their BIOSes are amazing... Tho if i have to puck between durable HW or problem free BIOS i prefer the durable HW...

That AWE 32 is nice prob the highest end model, i still dont have AWE32 in the collection, but the Terratec it will do....

I think he stepped off seeing DFI was exiting the consumer market, if anything. Most P35/45 and similar era AMD BIOSes from DFI are almost 1:1 copies of Gigabyte's code, right down to their BIOS beeping frequency. ASUS on the other hand has had some solid boards, provided you would pay the $$$. P5Q Deluxe, P5E3 Deluxe and a few of the OG Rampage boards were absolute bangers from them, right up there with ABIT's AB9, IP35 Pro/ProXE, IX38, IP45 Pro. I wonder if the IP45 Pro was even as well known as the P35.

I have GIGAbyte G1 Assassin , but its sound card is not found and I can't install the sound drivers :( Otherwise it works, but I've never tried doing extreme overclock.

Huh so you want to tell me that Creative did beat Gravis, Turtle Beach, Terratec, Miro Yamaha, Aureal i really doubt that... In terms of sound quality these brands was on par, and some cards like Gravis, Terratec and Turtle Beach had even superior one... When it comes to games, no one like much Creative, as everyone is looking for Yamaha OPL chips even on the Creative cards... ANd for later games on Win 98, Aureal VorteX II did wipe the floor with what Creative had... Tho Creative is still alive these days, and the rest are not maybe only Terratec is...

5184.97 MHz was the best I could do. Currently holding 10 Records on the 990X
Intel Core i7 Extreme 990X @ HWBOT

Nice but i think above 4.5GHz wont be any good for the long run, it will shorten the lifespan of the CPU... Tho i can recall memories of ppl that used sandy bridge 2500k and 2600k with 4.8GHz some even 5GHz 24/7 and they still had these systems even in 2019, running fine, so i may be wrong here... Will like to hear from someone running high OC from many years to report...

GIGAbyte high end ss7 mobo, not the latest rev, but i dont mind that much, better to have this in this condition, then not at all or all rusted and dead.. Also i like to collect as much GIGAbyte and AOpen boards as possible, as these 2 brands are my favorites, and i find them to be build very very well, and to be very reliable too... Usually if i find 10 asus and 10 GIGAbyte boards 7 of the ASUS boards would be dead, while only 2 of the GIGAbyte will be dead, is always something like that, FK asus..

20230419_163601.jpg20230419_163650.jpg20230419_122951.jpg

Not to mention ppl may praise boards such as P3B-F or TUSL2-C and others, but AOpen had at the time black colored slot 1 board AX6BC Pro II , or very strange pink one AX3S Pro or smile faces one AX3SP Pro this one had also Dual BIOS like GIGAbyte... Or comparing the boooring crappy asus 478 deluxe that even look like crap with that PCB color, and did not have anything special, meanwhile AOpen had their tube board AX4B-533-Tube, not only bizzare af, but also colored in black... So many may praise asus, but AOpen is just better then them in looks, features and durability too, saw too many dead garbage asus boards anyway... There was also ABIT Casper...

Last card I've seen from Terratec was a craptacular CMI 8738 based card. 8738 spells crap in my book. Yes, they went THAT low. Sorry to burst anyone's bubbles.

Vortex, while good audio quality, had crap drivers above 98SE. I know this as I've worked with one and it's been living hell.

Yamaha, ESS, Crystal - good support anywhere but they're kinda feature lacking.

I don't think I have to say anything else about Creative, although their OEM stuff and the Vibra16 lineage wasn't their particularly bright spot.

As for Gigabyte - meh, I've had to deal with their older stuff and unless you're willing to put enough work into them I'd rather look at ABIT, Soyo, MSI and possibly Soltek too. GB seems fairly spartan compared to those, and so does AOpen to a degree. With AOpen I could understand it seeing they were Acer's "consumer" board market but Gigabyte had zero reasons to be that spartan feature wise.
