No it isn't. As @Bwaze mentioned, it's Nvidia's choice to not keep up with the demand.

Do you have any idea what a supply chain is? Or do you think TSMC is the Amazon of chip making and can get your order to you in two days

No company in Nvidia’s position is going to undership - that’s what AMD does after they channel stuff. Nvidia is selling every chip they can get their hands on - about three BILLION dollars worth a week. You are clearly ignorant of what kind of scale Nvidia operates at. They are literarily buying all the GDDR7 and HBM3e memory being produced. Think about that for a moment. There’s entire memory fabs sold out for over a year just supplying Nvidia’s needs.

JFC, they are buying packaging from Intel of all companies.

Are you getting a clue yet?

Anyway I‘m sure you can provide citations for your position right? Right??

The hilarious thing is, we have, and will not have, any real insight into what the situation really is, apart from the stock, and possible scalping, prices shooting up etc.

Right now Nvidia has record income in Gaming sector, with old generation of cards. From what? Are cards really flying from the shelves? All the data shows the contrary - stocks of cards, sales in shops that show sales figures... Sales are actually so bad that in Mindfactory, largest German retailer, AMD GPUs outsell Nvidia!

MindFactory: more AMD GPUs than NVIDIA sold!

Some people are actually mad at TechEpiphany for creating these datasets, are accusing him of pro-AMD stance, faking numbers, or just dismissing Mindfactory as pro-AMD store somehow...

It's clear that Nvidia displays revenue as they see fit. It will be even easier now, since there is no "Gaming" sector any more - it's "Gaming and AI PC"...

Well for those not too accustomed to China culture, next week is the Lunar new years where factory workers take vacation for 3 weeks, pretty much all AIBs from China will stop making GPU.

Oh that includes AMD AIBs too

Oh, strange; the supply shortage, as I understand it, was for the 5090 FE cards, that doesn't mean it is so for the AIB's, but I suppose this stupid excuse will have to continue to exist to exist so they can "ask" (Extort) so much money from early buyers.

Disgusting.

One retailer in Germany does’t tell you jack about the global GPU market. If you think it is an indicator of anything but Mindfactory sals then you really need to go back to school.

AMD‘s gaming sales last quarter: $462M, down 25%
Nvidia’s gaming sales last quarter: $3,300M, up 14%

And yet somehow Nvidia is withholding product to raise prices.

Tell me, do you know how to read a corporate financial statement? Would you like to compare and contrast Nvidia and AMD’s? Do you know what a 10-Q is? Do you know what an auditor is? I’m better “no” is the answer to all the above.

Nvidia doesn’t made any additional money from retail markups.

Want one? I’ll get you a good deal. I bought a 4090 below MSRP.

That’s literally the definition of a supply issue, lol.
Nah, all of your chips being sold for AI doesn't mean you have a supply issue. It just means you don't have chips to sell

For example, Nvidia doesn’t made any additional money from retail markups.
No? I thought that when my local store was selling 3080s for 2k $ it was nvidia getting that money. What a fool I've been.

EG1. Do people actually think that's how it works or are they just trying to shoot crap at nvidia and see what sticks? It blows my mind if grown ups think that nvidia is trying to artificially limit supply to "get more money" when they aren't getting any from retail sales.

By allocating more wafers to the "AI" fad, they're artificially limiting the supply. Tell me you do more than professional accounting because that's some high school-level mental gymnastics out there

Seriously? By selling every chip they make for AI they are artificially limiting the supply? Is amd artificially limiting the supply of the 9800x 3d? Surely, if they stopped producing everything else there'd be enough of those to go around, right?

They chose to allocate more wafers to AI ~ yes that is artificially limiting the supply! You could argue whether it's the right decision for you as a "consumer" or not but that's a fact, same goes for AMD. I don't work for either firm nor do their PR for a living so don't care either way.

Artificially limiting the supply means you have the capacity to produce more but you don't. If they stopped allocating wafers for AI, wouldn't that mean they are artificially limiting the supply for AI according to your argument? And since the AI is more profitable, them limiting the supply to AI would be the greedy option, right, since they'd make more money out of it? So nvidia took the non greedy approach, but they are still greedy? How does that compute?

Sure & they've chosen to make their pockets heavier & that's fine for me because I can choose not to buy their products.
Artificially limiting the supply means you have the capacity to produce more but you don't.
Artificially limiting implies you have the option to produce more but you chose not to, additional or free(?) capacity doesn't come into the equation. Although tbf demand can also vary a lot depending on what's driving the GPU sales, like crypto in the past.

So no matter what nvidia did, they would end up "artificially limiting capacity" and thus being greedy. Okay....

Want one? I’ll get you a good deal. I bought a 4090 below MSRP.

It's that nGreedia most likely assigned most of their stock to AIB's, meaning, they still sold a GPU, wither it's called an RTX5090 Founders Edition or ASUS RTX5090 Strix, it doesn't matter.

I think there will be a shortage on nGreedia FE editions, sure, which is what everyone is raving about or in this case, or fail to mention, but is the most likely scenario.

They are perpetuating this shortage thing as something "across the broad spectrum" but they are probably casting this illusion spell to create FOMO (fear of missing out) and thus, everyone will want to rush to the stores while they milk the living crap out of early buyers, laughing their asses off while their stock rooms are filled to the brim. Heck, even nGreedia said in early November last year, that they stopped making some RTX4000 series cards and ramped up production on RTX5000.

What, do people seriously think nGreedia only manage to squeeze out a couple of them in 3 months time? Laughable.

As for your offer, thank you, but I doubt you can comply, as my "country" of residence is South-Africa, and I won't feel safe enough to make payment upfront with all the scams about, I will only want to pay until it's slotted into my machine and I can confirm that it's working. So then, there is that, an impasse as I doubt you would want to do that. That relies on high trust societies, which near no country has anymore, if I was in Japan, sure.

Anyways, I am still milling over, if I want to buy the RTX5070Ti or RTX5080, this GPU will have to last me around 5 years, probably a ZOTAC, as they offer a 5-year warranty if you register (3 years without registration) for these prices I expect 5 year warranties, these prices are getting way out of hand and there seems no signs of this trend improving. Sick of paying $1000 for things that cost a fraction of the asking price to manufacture, many of us do vote with our wallets, but unfortunately there are way many more people that don't, ergo, it will never improve.

I have zero interest in finances, stock market, etc. I'm interested in gaming. And I'm looking if it will be reasonable to replace my RTX 3080, I'm not looking for investment advice.

Sales of largest German retailer, and possibly the largest EU retailer, does tell a bit about market - since it is the only one we can gather some statistics from. I know the data doesn't suit many people's idea on how this small portion of the market really behaves - that's why I wrote that the guy that compiles it is under constant attacks, insults, even threats.

Revenue numbers - record income in Gaming, at the end of generation while cards aren't flying off the shelves, are something that can't be explained easily. Are Nvidia or AIB partners selling cards by the truckload outside regular retail channels? When that happened during cryptocrazes, the shelves in the stores were empty, and prices skyrocketed. We have seen elevated prices for RTX 4090, but they are readily available even in my backwater country, let alone across EU. Is EU somehow lagging and not interested in AI and other uses of these cards, while the rest of the world is grabbing them? Doesn't look like it, PCPartPicker, Newegg show tons of them in stock, just like in EU.

To believe Nvidia's Gaming revenue figures as indicator of sales of Gaming cards would mean also to ignore Nvidia's previous behaviour when they had large revenue in single sector - they spread the revenue in all sectors to hide that fact and to hide the vulnerability of such surge - "look, it's not just crypto, we have huge raise in Pro graphics, Automotive etc...". That is of course illegal, but one lawsuit was dismissed by judge, saying that there is no sign Nvidia did that maliciously. The other lawsuit was settled for a laughable figure of 5 MILLION dollars - which Nvidia also didn't pay.

But it's all moot now that Nvidia renamed the sector into "Gaming and AI PC". Anything goes now.

Don't even know if it's better or worse. 5080 is arguably the more disappointing deal in this lineup, after all.

IMO it's currently worst deal in the stack (5070/5070ti/5080/5090)

Especially in my country... Prices start at 1220ish €, the 4080S was once at 999 €, now slowly approaching 1099 €. (all prices include VAT)

looks at 4080S at 999€ Perhaps I treated you too harshly my friend

The problem with buying RTX 4080 Super now is, how many games will come out with full support for 50x0 frame generation, new DLSS, but somehow gimped support for all the older generations, all jumbled together under "legacy" DLSS 3, but the one without Lovelace features?

With redesigning RT, DLSS, frame generation etc. Nvidia can now make older generation suddenly seem very outdated quickly - for a long time the only thing that mattered was performance, and in a generation your card was working as one to two tiers lower new generation.

No they choose Blackwell AI cards over normal 50xx production and for only 1 reason... more profit. It isn't a supply issue well then purposely choose to not produce a normal amount. Ever since they decided to play the retail game with users it has been a availability problem. Before that manufacturers had more than enough chips to supply all our gaming needs. And no we didn't magically grow twice as big as aa community all of sudden.

In the past, friends bought AMD GPUs by themselves, I'm not surprised because the typical gamer (casual) won't obsess over RTX or DLSS/FG. AMD are just simpler to understand and cheaper.
NVidia is clearly focusing on enterprise AI, as they should, while maintaining supposed 'supremacy' by making halo products like xx90s

The new dlss will work for everything as far back as Turing. It's already out for cp2077 and you can try it on ada, and from what people are reporting it's absolutely insanely good!
