Eight cores minimum?
my 10700 barely makes it.

watch the AMD 7600x run way past 60 FPS at either 1404p or 4k
probably true

People want better graphics, and then complain about system requirements.

Funny isn't it?
yeah, can't get path traced GI/AO/reflections/shadows without path tracing.

After Eternal I stopped caring because it's way too fast to be a Doom game, only played it once and I haven't played The Ancient Gods only watch them on YouTube. And my GPU is now on minimum requirement
yeah, Eternal will have your head spin. Completed it, though, but I needed get back in shape and remember my teenage QIII Arena training days :) Dark Ages will come to GamePass in May, so I'll be sure to check it out.

Forcing Banana Tracing and so no Vulkan API is absurd after most people played their most recent DOOM games using Vulkan. They need to stop using Bloated UE5 and push for forced Raytracing . People need to upgrade but for how much cost? Will 2000 Series be enough?
They're not using UE5 in this case, this is the latest version of their in-house idTech engine.

As for me, I didn't gel with the gameplay loop of Eternal and I would like to run the game at 120+ fps which I suspect won't be possible without upscaling. So this will be a pass from me :(

Just to confirm, RT is required?

The requirements specifically call for it at every tier. A shame for users on older cards or those that aren't a fan of the noise often introduced by current RT implementations.

Dear id Software,

Please make a Quake 1 sequel.

Thanks,
Just another fanboy

Well yea, even current gen consoles have been 8c/16t for 4 years. This is mid range gaming now and for such a highly optimized multithreaded engine that uses Vulkan it must absolutely fly with that many threads loaded up. 6c has been dying a while now it's time to say goodbye from a modern gaming standpoint.
I really enjoyed Arcane Dimensions. Not sure if something like Indiana Jones is a better modern template for that?! (level design wise). I also really enjoyed The Old Blood. Why do we have to wait so long for something like The Black Parade? Why is that horse so spiderlike?!

Unfortunately this seems to be the future the industry has settled on. It'd be nice if they had checked with the consumers first ;)

Does DLSS 4 have better ray reconstruction? How does that scale?
I have absolutely no idea, sorry. I'm an AMD user and know very little about the Nvidia side of things. We might need some experts to chip in.

Hopefully AMDs plans for denoising will come to RDNA4 cards, at the very least.

12GB card sad face.

Right? Even Indiana Jones would like 12700K or 7700X.
Now double check the purchase and release date for that 12GB card. Yep.

People want better graphics, and then complain about system requirements.

Funny isn't it?
Speak for yourself. I want to play good games that run smoothly and with low latency, especially if action oriented. Graphics are just a means, not an end.

And barely any game saturates those 8 cores. I was on 6c12t not too long ago, and even with a relatively ancient CPU (and IPC) it was quite fine.

The requirement is not really 8 cores. Its just that current products with sufficient performance often simply have 8 cores.

Wait, I just thought of something. They mandate an RT capable card on PC, which is all well and good, but, uh, it’s a MS studio. So they will have a mandate to launch this thing on the Series S too. How… would THAT work? I kind of checked out of the Indiana Jones discussion, how did that run on the S? Or did MS finally abandon that problem child of a console?

Apparently it runs pretty well on the series S, just lower texture resolutions. (in 60 fps)

I don't speak for myself, since i still play bangers from the late 90' and early 2000's.

yeah, can't get path traced GI/AO/reflections/shadows without path tracing.
You mean using the same tech we already use the past 15 years? Graphics stagnated 5 years ago because of that. The only uplift can be done with Ray/Path Tracing.

I personally don't give two shits about modern graphics, the only game on my radar is Half-Life 2: RTX.

A large portion of that is down to the exploding cost to run AAA games at decent settings. If value isn't improving but requirements are going up, you have to shell out more to maintain the same level of performance in games that are increasingly demanding.
It was no different in the late 90's and early 2000's when graphics fidelity sky rocketed within a couple of years.

Alan Wake 2 also presented a similar issue because of RX 5000 series not supporting mesh shaders.

That’s weird, because I read multiple times a day here that low vram on Nvidia cards is a problem but it doesn’t seem to be, as AMD cards with the same amount of vram are unable to run the new games.

Maybe they think their cards can’t run them because of the vram and think it applies to Nvidia too?

like is said, it’s interesting.

First I’ve heard this, the article says it’s IdTech8, which uses Vulcan. I guess Id got it wrong in their press release.

Unfortunately this seems to be the future the industry has settled on. It'd be nice if they had checked with the consumers first ;)

I get the feeling they did.

We were joking about how a 1080ti gets shutout but anything with hardware RT does not.
My mind does not compute (feel like I'm missing context here)

Yeah i assumed they where using UE5 because of path tracing but still i don't like this approach. Forcing people to upgrade because they wanna force even at minimum Ray tracing is stupid imo.

Yeah, game technology shouldn’t advance. I should have never been forced to upgrade from my GTX 960. Doom 3 ran great on it, there’s no reason why a game that is 15 years newer should require me to upgrade.

It’s just like when I had to upgrade to 4MB of system RAM to play the original Doom. Why did they make me do that?

The hardware vendors must be giving Id Software a cut of sales.

I think every game should only have ultra settings, why bother with anything lower? /s

I think the complaint is more "why are they forcing this lighting tech that top-end cards struggle with unless they use upscaling", not "why should I be forced to upgrade". It's fine if ray-tracing is an option (like in Cyberpunk) because it means low-mid tier cards can still run the game at a reasonable pace. Forcing ray-tracing essentially dooms a large portion of the market to low fps or unplayability.

I always like to imagine what classic movies would look like if they were made without the limits of the past (creative constraints). With people like George Lucas and James Cameron we hardly have to imagine...

If the advance is forced instead of being a toggle option then is wrong . We are speaking about a game that in their 2 previous titles with Vulkan you can run the games on a 10 series gpu or amd rx 500 still . Now because of forcing stupid trends people are not gonna buy unless someone makes a mod to skip the requirements. Forcing is always wrong period. That's the same argument about games not using Directx 11 over 12 just because they wanna implement effects most people can't even activate . More options is always better.
The same happen with Indiana jones that had already a tainted name because of that pepega movie . But forcing path tracing is wrong.

Forcing Banana Tracing even with their own engine is crazy . Vulkan API is great for all gpus after most people played their most recent DOOM games using Vulkan. They need to stop pushing for forced Raytracing . People need to upgrade but for how much cost? Will 2000 Series be enough?
Considering that indiana jones runs fine with an rx 6600 at a native 1080p, I think this too will run fine on most hardware.

Also yes! Vulkan is indeed great, which is why they will be using it again here.

It’s the ancient story of payola. Ngreedia paying developers to make consumers buy new GPUs.

the first thing i thought when looking at the poster is "Evil Dead: The FPS", he has a BOOMSTICK and a CHAINSHIELD, pretty much in the same pose as army of darkness :D

when i watched the trailer, errrrr it's pretty much a high budget serious sam 4: hordes of enemies, gore, he even gets on a pacific-rim jäger just like Sam gets on the popemobile (one of the favourite parts of the entire game for me)
