Benchmark Scores Really Really High

I used annual, but their latest quarterly shows 78.4% for GAAP. Up from 66.8% a year prior. They've been increasing prices without their cost being increased.

That's across their whole product line. They make most of their money from the AI chips and datacenters. The PC graphics card market is a very small share of their profits.

Profit margin is not related to the share of profit. Gaming and AI PC might only be 10% of their total revenue but it doesn't mean that the profit margin is different from the other 90%. Nvidia doesn't break out their margins by segments. I'm assuming they're not going to be far off from each other. Nvidia most likely operates with a similar profit margin goal across their entire portfolio.

Did anyone notice the weight of the card? It is 3kg, 6.6 pounds… Do the motherboards support such a weight, the PCIe slot I mean?
It is twice the weight of an RTX4070Ti Super gaming OC, 1.3kg... The Asus 5090 Astral is huge and very heavy.

The card is also supported by the screws on the case. I had no issues

Now we just have to wait for the ai market to peak ( bubble end) any moment now (lol) for a market correction and watch them beg gamers for their business again.
Honestly I wonder what these would be priced at if that happened.

I understand, but on a testing rig it is in a perpendicular position, in case it is a different situation. Will see in time some complaints.

LE:
I see now that you tested on a closed case. It is still very heavy...

Jensen is too smart to let this opportunity to diversify fail
NVidia will stay even more relevant than ever even if the stock prices go down

It seems there are only philips screws used. And plenty of those. It looks very easy to disassemble. It seems that card has an extra HDMI connector as some other cards

Well if the card is more expensive you can show others that you can afford it. Maybe add some extra wood / silver / gold / ... and ask for 4600 US dollars. Make it a limited edition with 9999 pieces in total.
(some stuff is out of budget. Feel free to vent your feeling about high prices. It's like that. (asus tax / nvidia tax))

I wonder why most peple cannot understand that nVidia made a few FE to sell from their website for the typical MSRP and all the 5090s will be sold on retail for MUCH more. So the $2800 will be a low price compared to the street prices. We have seen the same comical false (for retail) MSRPs since 3090, it went on with 4090 and will be even worse with 5090 since it will be scarce for -at least- the next 3 months.

I had the 4080 Strix, but there was zero coil whine on it.

I think it depends on the case. When you look at the picture from the poster. It's a very bad idea to keep the computer an arm length away from the ears.

Just buy longer cables and put the computer 1 meter away. That physically makes things much better. Most audio noise is measured in one meter distance for certain products for the computer.

Some games generate with certain drivers some whining noise. I saw it control game with my amd graphic cards. I think also star wars jedi survivor did that. I think for AMD graphic cards it's more a driver problem / setting problem for the game in question.

It also depends on the age. Some people will not hear that well, regardless of the age. They ruined their ears around 12-17 years old. Others got it from working at certain jobs.

--

When I read 50m when 50ms is most likely the intention gives me the shivers.

a length si unit vs a time si unit with a metric prefix
1ms = 0.001 seconds -> time
50m = 50000 mm -> length

Disapointing that the levels of coilwhine isn't mentioned - it has been the biggest issue with asus gpu's for ages, especially the 4090 - both 4090 strix and tuf were by far the gpu's with the most coilwhine that i have tested.

I'm no ASUS/ROG hater and I'm a very loyal ASUS customer when it comes to mobos but the only ASUS ROG graphics card I have ever owned was in fact a piece of garbage and, by far, the worst gfx card I have ever owned.

It was the ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 2080 OC which I got as a temporary replacement for my defunct Palit RTX 2080Ti that died with the good ol' space invaders. The ASUS card had the loudest coil whine I have ever heard and, as if that was not bad enough already, it also had a very annoying high pitched fan noise when revving up and down. It literally sounded like a mini jet engine and I could even hear it when gaming with a headset on because of its high pitch.

So, as far as graphics cards are concerned ASUS is a case of never again for me. I ended up replacing my Palit RTX 2080Ti with an MSI RTX 2080Ti and I have stuck with MSI ever since (currently MSI RTX 4090 Suprim X) because coil whine has always been within limits and the fan noise is also perfectly fine with the silent BIOS enabled.

If I get an RTX 5090 then it will be the MSI RTX 5090 Suprim Liquid because I have the space for a radiator in the side panel.

That's across their whole product line. They make most of their money from the AI chips and datacenters. The PC graphics card market is a very small share of their profits.

Exactly. We're at something like 8% revenue from gaming and 90%+ AI/DC. nVidia's GROSS margin (net margin is considerably lower at around 55%) is as high as it is because of AI/DC and not because of the consumer stuff.

The guy you quoted didn't even read the financial report he linked to (or he did not understand it) as he falsely claimed that nVidia's expenses did not go up. That is a big fat lie as their operating expenses increased by 39% YoY according to their financial report.

All GPU power phases use Monolithic MPS MP86670 DrMOS. These are new, we don't know their current rating. The "7" could suggest 70 A.
According to datasheet - 80A Output Current

Eight.
Hundred.
Dollars.

I think this is pure, unrestrained greed. Asus know they are going to sell every one of these instantly so they've gone and slapped an extra $300 on top of the price of even the MSI Suprim liquid cooled card, despite that being vastly more practical and better-cooled.

"Asus tax", of course - but not "Asus tax as usual" because this is an unusually high tax even by Asus standards. This is an undeniable, bare-faced price scalp in the face of known scarcity, and it's a disgusting example of the worst thing about capitalism.

They just for some reason feel they deserve so much money for this product. You can find handbags for this price, which are really worth one tenth of their price. Wealthy people need to spend their money somehow.

I much more dislike ripping off normal people by selling them intentionally poorly made trash, which will stop working a month after warranty ends.
