I have, and it makes zero difference performance wise. And it does not make dlss performance look like dlss quality... it just handles motion slightly better.

Raster performance is what purely matters for the vast majority of games, namely all multiplayer games.
I think you misunderstand. Most seem to agree it will make performance look as good as balanced/quality and thus yes that is a performance increase for the same fidelity. Now if MFG looks as good as native in a blind test that is a win too. And remember these things are not free and does require additional logic

Raster performance is dead. There’s no way path tracing can be handled by pure raster in the next decade. And imo that’s fine. In the end 3 things matter. Visual fidelity, latency and fps. And of course at what cost.

if 5090 was twice as fast as 4090 in raster you’d be running cyberpunk at 40 fps.

I didn't missunderstand anything, i am simply saying that what you are saying is wrong. DLSS4 performance does NOT look like dlss3 quality... dlss4 handles motion better with less visual artifacts, and that's it.

"Raster is dead" yeah, how about no. Multiplayer games will never be path traced by default, and therefore raster will always be what matters the most to the majority of people.

"if 5090 was twice as fast as 4090 in raster you’d be running cyberpunk at 40 fps." What ??? XD

I have a 4090 and I won't be getting a 5090, here's why:
1. I have yet to play a game that doesn't look and run well on my LG C1 120Hz OLED with the 4090. Sure I can't max new AAA-games out and get a locked 4k120, but I have always been able to get there with very few compromises.
2. The 450W (well more like ~350-400W in most games) power draw of the 4090 is already a pain in the summer months, 575W would probably make that at least 9 months of the year instead. Gaming in a sauna is not a good experience.
3 MFG has little to no use on a 120Hz display, even regular FG is pushing it in some games and in most cases I rather play at 90 fps without FG than 120 fps with it enabled.
4. Because of my local currency losing value against the USD since I bought my 4090 the 5090 is ~35% more expensive than the 4090 in my region.
5. I find myself playing and enjoying less demanding Indie titles more in the last year than ever before and only played two more demanding titles, Indy and Hellblade 2. Don't see that changing much in the next 2-3 years.
That's all I was going to say.
In my case I would have added the fact that I also have to change my 850w power supply for a 1200w one.

In my country in EU the 5090 will probably cost around 3000euros when the 4090 cost 2000euros when it was released.
So it costs 50% more for 25% more performance with a power consumption of 35% more. The ratio is just completely f***ed up.

I will also add that with the rtx 4*** series, we still have access to the best FG (artifact and latency level) that is to say the FG X2.
Which for me personally allows me to be in the G-sync range of my monitor in games with path tracing in 4k.
180fps or 240fps on a 120hz monitor is nothing but problems with frame pacing.

If I had to crack for a 5090, it will unbalance my rig to the point of causing other purchases in cascade (monitor+power supply) that could cost me up to 4500 euros in the end.
For 25% more performance.
What madness that would be.

I will torture my 4000 series and get all the added value possible until the release of the 6000 series. Even in 2 years I will be able to "max"(with optimisation) everything.
No more bullsh*t.

Edit: If you are itching to buy a 5000 series when you have a 4000 series you should watch this video to grasp the potential of your 4000 series :

Really ?! Gonna be alot of disappionted people, unless nvidia sent all the stock to 'murica again, cause stores here have barely gotten any gpus for launch.

That's what I was telling a buddy who pretty set on a 5090 lol.. Imagine camping 3 days for a 4080 super MFG edition

Proshop (biggest tech store in denmark, and one of the bigger ones in europe) has across all the different 5090 models recieved.... 6 gpus for launch. Not stock for 6 different models - no, 6 gpus in total... lol

But yeah, i hope your buddy has alternative plans... lol. Maybe a used 4090.

1. I already have a 4090.
2. I only have one remaining kidney so that means I can't afford a 4090.

The prices of this thing are going to go crazy.
Already the prices of the first stock are going to be high.
First stock that will disappear in less than 1 hour.
For the 2nd and 3rd stock the prices will take a few hundred euros more.
It will quickly look like nothing at all.

Yep, prices here are 3200+ usd on most models. Only "cheap" one is asus 5090 tuf non-oc at a launch price of 2600 usd - but i bet that will go up right after launch.

At this price level, only the FE is "acceptable" for those who want to spend that much.
Which is already not my case.

FE isn't available in most of the world though. But even if it was available here, i wouldn't even consider it - by far the loudest 5090.

At this price level, a FE with a good closed audio headset and it's still cheaper than the price of a brand.
We make do with what we have in this kind of situation...
I also say that because I use my PC for many years with a headsphone connected to a headphone DAC so I'm used to this anti-noise configuration.

Depends on the country, both pricing and if you can even get FE. And using headphones is not an option for everyone for various reasons - myself included. So noise both from fans and coilwhine is THE most important factor for me when deciding on a gpu model.

I honestly don't think it's that terrible. Please hear me out.

From my 4080 I will get double the frames and double the vram, basically a 100% uplift or near abouts. The 4080 had an msrp of 1200 USD. If I was coming from a 4090 id have second thoughts about it.

Unfortunately, this is the world we currently live in regards to prices. Yes, it's going to be scary what the release prices will be down under but hopefully I get a chance for the dust to settle on prices before there are any stock issues.

I originally went a 4080 coming from a 6800 XT. I paid 1749 AUD for the 4080 and the cheapest 4090 I could find was 2749. I said to myself I would save the 1k and put that towards the Nvidia 5 series or Radeon.

With the power supply, I believe I will get away with the one I have as I will be power limiting if for maximum efficiency: 20% Efficiency Boost by RTX 5090 Power Target Tweaking but I will be donking in a 1300w
I purchased ages ago on special just in case.

I can understand the possible double performance from your 4080 but its at a to great of a cost I think.

You say your going to wait a little before getting one and by then your 4080 would be lucky to be worth $1000 with the new GPu's from Nvidia coming out soon and the 9070 XT thats going to bring prices down of all used GPU's on the second hand market. So then you gotta spend over 4 times the amount to get your 5090 and thats where I find it a terrible buy.

Thats fair enough on your PSU, least you got one thats got the power to cover your system when you go 5090 as recommended is a 1000W PSU.
