If you don't need all the bells and whistles of X870E and have a bit more than $300 to spend on a motherboard that still includes USB4, Wi-Fi 7 and PCIe Gen 5 support then the ASUS ROG STRIX X870-A Gaming Wi-Fi this could be the board for you. Even better is that it comes in white.

People should be aware of that X870E is high end. This mainboard is middle class with another chipset X870.

Hello. Could you please check if those AM5 epic processors are supported?

CPU Support:AMD Socket AM5 Ryzen 7000, 8000, 9000

these are hardly mentioned: https://www.amd.com/en/products/processors/server/epyc/4004-series.html#specifications

It's nice to see a DP connector on the back. I prefer to not see any hdmi outputs on my future mainboard. Only two of those usual five audio 3.5mm connectors for the onboard audio are disappointing. I'm well aware of that some recent mainboards do not come with those connectors anymore. (e.g. check msi b550 gaming edge wifi backpanel audio connectors)

Sure, but that is not ASUS' fail, that complaint is on AMD.
It is like you go to a hotel for a night and then complain at the reception, that the room was not good because your wife snores.

Shitsus has a castration fetish that goes beyond hardware features so wont be surprised to find certain BIOS settings also being made unavailable on this board just to push users towards their even more overpriced crap.

Bigger problem is the CON below that on board that Shitus has audacity to charge $310 for.

Would it be possible to test the USB4 ports on these boards with an external USB4 SSD? Also, on boards with a 10GBase-T port, it'd be appreciated if you could test that as well....Basically, it'd be cool if the motherboard reviews included testing "premium" or rare I/O implementation.

I really liked my X670E E Strix. It even supports more 5.0 drives than just about any X870E. I had no intention of getting a new MB but 24H2 made a mess of my PC. The only board that I considered was the Taichi. Now that I have it Asus will no longer be top choice. X870E does have some good QOL features and I have already stated that I prefer the GPU release system on the Taichi. This board will satisfy some but the budget boards are back and they will get most of the sales. They need a board that competes with AS Rock Pro, MSI Tomahawk and Aorus Pro. All of them are less expensive for X870 than this but this has the best implementation of white I have seen on a MB so it will sell.

Why does this have 7.1 audio but only a single line-out and a S/PDIF out? Is there an optional dongle for the other channels or a coaxial connection?

At the very least acknowledge and reference other white motherboards. I think this thing is overpriced for what it offers, but you're totally missing the point.

I'm not sure. I forgot how the lower tier X870 is related to X670

I would compare it to my existing ASUS Prime X670-P Mainboard. More Input/Output (ports) with certain ASUS bugs for less price.

Why does this have 7.1 audio but only a single line-out and a S/PDIF out? Is there an optional dongle for the other channels or a coaxial connection?

Some people, including myself above wrote that several times already. For several different mainboards. It seems newer mainboard comes with less Audio ports as usual. I do not get it why the author of those reviews never make a negative point about that. (i referenced the backpanel audio section of my previous MSI B550 gaming edge wifi for comparision purposes)

Does these Asus mobos still damage x3d cpus?

Not with recent UEFI updates as far as I know.

I know for certain that certain article writers claim that asus damage graphic card ports. this is a valid claim. a bad implementation of a card release feature for the graphic card slot.

I would not buy an asus board because of damaged graphic cards. The many uefi bugs I experience is another issue.
One bug is hard to tell who's fault it is. Is it's intel AX210 WLAN fault for requiring disabling hole powersaving feature in the asus mainboard to work properly? Else the hole machine crashes when the AX210 wifi is used. I can not check with another mainboard brand if it'S ASUS mainboard related power saving bug or intel bug.
When I check the other bugs i experience, I'm more convinced it's another ASUS uefi - firmware bug.

The biggest thing I hate about my ASUS mainboard, only one, a single USB port is able to boot from. Some sort of uefi error. Disconnect the usb drive - reconnect to any other or the same usb port fix that boot issue for that particular warm or cold boot. Not a permanent fix.

Getting only half the uefi and security updates for ASUS mainboards is another reason to stay miles away from asus mainboards.
Reference -> google hardwareluxx.de + am5 + uefi + update list. Check yourself. ~30% of those boards hardly get an update.

Wow, so if you use the 2nd gen5 M.2 slot, you just lose four gen5 lanes into the ether? That is... a decision of all time.

Any review of X870-F? It is the only X870 board with an eCLK generator for asynchronouse overclocking.

Keynote, X870-A and X870-F are not the same board with different color! A lot of previewers made this mistake

I'm not sure what point I'm missing. Is white supposed to costs more? Maybe for Asus. The Gigabyte AORUS Pro I posted comes in black and white and price is the same. So apparently white paint does not cost more, it's an excuse for some brands to charge more.

As usual, Asus tax kills board market position completely... Only completely unaware buyer will buy this - but how many of such buyers even buys motherboard these days?

In my opinion, it would be reasonable to impose sanctions on them just for this A2 option alone :slap:

Sharing my discoveries in hope it helps someone make informed decisions:

-X870E grants 4 more PCIE lanes allowing two m.2's while maintaining x16 for GPU (dig through the mobo manual to find which 2nd m.2 slot to use)
-all X870 motherboards are mandated to have 2 USB4 slots
-it's a workaround, it carries a small speed penalty but external m.2 enclosures connected via USB4 are still a whole lot faster than SATA.
-external enclosures with the new JHL9480 chip nearly match internal gen 4 nvme's.
-on PCIE 5.0, it might be ok to drop to x8

No post code display for ROG price category? No thanks.
They only put it on the E-E Strix. But forget that, where's the Pcie Q-Release button that's on the Strix B650-A?

These B850/X870 boards are worse rebrands than B350/X370 to B450/X470.

I'm not sure. I forgot how the lower tier X870 is related to X670

I would compare it to my existing ASUS Prime X670-P Mainboard. More Input/Output (ports) with certain ASUS bugs for less price.
The X870 boards are single chipset like the B650 and B850, X670 is dual chipset like X670E and X870E
