remove hum from active subwoofer?

when nothing is playing theres a hum. I usually ignore or dont notice it. but its something id like to lower it a bit. possible?

disconnected from avr, still hum, put it on same electrical line as the other components, hum.

Usually when my speakers are too high I'll get that humming. I'm assuming it's interference or something related to power draw. I'm sure some audiophile will chime in.

no, I was joking. im always rough around the edges. thats my sarcastic humor. pay no mind to it.

guy says maybe avr, so disconnected, still hum. says use same power line as other components, so did that. hum. usually i have some audio movies or whatever playing, but usually when pc is off and nothing playing ill notice it.

maybe theres some power filter I can use for the interference as you noted.

The humming could be because the lack of grounding on the circuit thats handling the electricity or connections inside.

Is your sub a cheap sub or a brand of rather questionable quality?

I dont know if its good or not but I think its an old one. dont know the brand dome. maybe theres something I can plug inline? 230v 50hz

the hum is not so bad .even after all audio is stopped, it takes a bit to hear it again.

Nope. Those sort of things only filter any frequencies on the outside or smooth out some of the electrical current going into the unit. Youre still going to have the same issue ones the electricity hits the circuit handling all the voltage regulation.

Either get a new sub or take your sub to an electrician that specialises in audio repairs so they can do some fancy magic on it. Sort out any earthing issues and probably replace some old caps and resistors for fresher/better quality ones.

Better earthing/shielding will sort the hum out. The power transformer inside can also be creating some sort of electrical interference - which also leads us back to a lack of earthing/shielding etc.

Re-plug and check all the cables.

Try to plug it to another source from a different outlet to verify its the subwoofer buzzing and not something else.

Its an active sub, and if they age, their noise floor can change. There's an amp in there. You can play around with input/output volume a bit to reduce the hum perhaps, but that's about all you can do.

Replace it, or repair it, though the latter is generally not cheaper. A decent 100-150W sub is what, 100 bucks.

Put some money away and get an SVS, it will change your listening experience.

I had a JBL powered sub that I got from a brick&mortar in the 90's. The 'hum' manifested itself after about a decade and got steadily worse until it could no longer be ignored. I'm assuming it's aging caps or something.

I had a hum from my studio monitors with my new pc build. The PC and monitors were plugged into the same power strip. I separated the monitors from the PC power strip and plugged them into a strip about 6 feet away. No more hum!

A line conditioner may or may not help. Cables talk to each other too, so look there as well, keep em separated. And if it is a lower quality part, then that is just how it is with lower end sound equipment, they can be easily swayed by their environment.

The hum is most likely coming from the power supply in the sub if it's fairly old I'm afraid its probably had its day time to for a new one unless you know someone who can repair the power supply

Could just be a bad cable. Try swapping. If not then it is something internal that you won't be able to fix easily.
