I have been testing cyberpunk with the new patch and tech. I found that my gpu kept crashing the game, and wondered if it had begun to degrade.

However, switching back to dlss3 made my gpu stable with the previous max oc of +250 core. With dlss4 the most i can do is +100.

Have any other 4090 owners found the same thing to be the case ? That their max achievable oc with dlss4 is lower than with dlss3 ?

I have found that using different drivers can slightly reduce an overclock or offset. 250 to 100 does seem rather large. Are you certain the 250 was always 100% stable in everything? Try Steel Nomad and see what happens.

I can’t get mine to go over 110 or so core stable. It happily goes over that if I don’t mind random driver resets though. I would love +250

As i wrote in the post, changing from dlss4 to dlss3 in cyberpunk it is still stable with +250. And it still is with the current driver.

It is purely with cyberpunk dlss4 that i've experienced it, hence why i am asking other 4090 owners if they are experiecing a reduced stable max oc with dlss4 in cyberpunk aswell.

Yours probably have higher stock clocks due to being liquid, so not apples to apples - my clock with +250 is 3ghz on core.

Just because it works in a one off doesn’t mean it’s 100% stable. It very well might not be fully stable and when using DLS4 it’s more hardware bond causing the crash.
You need to do more testing to rule out a bad OC or possible bad game patch

Mine doesn’t reach 3ghz stable. I can push 2910 max.

It has been my oc for 2 years - it's stable. As said (for the third time) cyberpunk with dlss4 is the only scenario where it hasn't been stable... hence me making this thread and asking other 4090 owners if you are experiencing the same.

Ah too bad, didn't win the silicon lottery there. I can do 3 ghz without increasing volts, and 3070 with +50mv.

Again that tells us little to nothing

what other testing have you done outside of Cyberpunk.

Im thinking if perhaps the tensor cores on my gpu aren't as strong as the rest of the chip, and now that they get used more heavily, it reduces how high i can push it.

Could try bumping voltage if you weren’t previously. Assuming you aren’t running beyond 1.1.

Bumping voltage 50mv to 1.1v does make it stable at +200, but yeah, with every other game (including cyberpunk with dlss3) it's stable with +250 @ 1.05v - it's only when using dlss4 in cyberpunk the problem pops up. It literally instant crashes when applying the oc when running dlss4.

But yeah, personally leaning between weak tensor cores and / or game bug.

Transformer model makes heavier use od tensor cores. The reason why it's literally only cp2077 Dlss transformer could be just that-first one to really stress tensor cores.

Yeah - might simply be a case of my specific gpu having strong raster and rt cores, but somewhat weak tensor cores. And as you say, cyberpunk with dlss4 is the first game to really hammer tensor cores.

or simply tensor cores never really being "stress tested" before now. you know how it is with cpus, some overclocks seem perfectly fine, until something specific crashes them. happy to say that the undervolt on my 4070S runs cp2077 transforemer just fine, didn't crash for hours.

Im guessing in theory there could be some amount of acceptable rendering errors which could be lower fps or just crashing.
