7900XTX Thermal pad size?

Hello all! Am back! Have noticed temps getting somewhat higher than when I first got the card. They were in low 50s all the time with pl turned all the way up and now they usually sit around low 60s. While I know these temps are not an issue, they are about 10c hotter than when I first got the card about 3 months ago. What happens a year from now you know? I'd like to take care of them before they become an issue. Hotspot temp is usually 80c. Was wondering what the die size is, was thinking of getting one of those fancy thermal paste pads, the ptm7950 one to be exact, but I'm not sure what size to order or where to get a true Honeywell one cause I've seen some fakes going around as well. Also, what size is the normal pads that go on the memory and vrms and is there an upgrade I can buy for those that would help drop temps? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

PTM can also dry out and be unstable. I would recommend kryosheet. Here on tpu was a good review and this comment is very helpful.
Each AIB will have its own gasket thickness, you will have to measure them or find a teardown review for your specific model, for example check the TPU database.

P.S. You have excellent chip and hotspot temperatures and I definitely don't recommend you to replace it at these temperatures. It's worth thinking about when the hotspot approaches 100°C.

Get a set of metric gap gauges and messure the gap between the heatsink, die, ram, and vrms, then add .25- 1.0 mm to the gap for pressfit.

40mm x 40mm for your xtx? I'm sure every single die is the same but if it matters at all, my card specifically is the Merc310 Speedster one. I just want to have the pad here and ready that way my pc isn't down for a couple days because I ordered the wrong size lol

Alright, pawsome. What was the size of the memory and vrm pads if I do decide to replace those as well or accidentally tear them in the teardown process? Any "performance" ones so to speak? Trying to squeeze every last drop out of this card I can.

Yeah I have Amazon prime too so I was in a similar boat but decided not to gamble on those... I can say the thickness is the same as a genuine part though. The 0.2mm ones are automatic counterfeits (and ironically, even the counterfeit ones do ok, but obviously not preferable to the real deal).

If pressed to put a number to it, I'd say 8/10 potential for being genuine. To me it looks like someone repacked a big bulk order from honeywell, but never can be sure.

Armed with that info, you can make a pretty educated call.

There is a 25x25 size, no need to risk doing cuts. I've posted it in our 7900 Radeon thread last year.

The core idea must be excelled one more time. This thing ain't for records, but stability. It will never pump out. Put it and forget it.

Shame w1z didn't test PTM7958 also.

There are soft tweezers for the task. Also you can hook up thermal shrink tube to any tweezers and make it as a gentle pick up tool. Be creative.

Pro tip is to use a bit larger and put some small thermal paste dots in the substrate corners, so it sticks while you align the heatsink on.

I had better results with PTM then when I tried kryosheet, but YMMV.

There was discussion about this in the 7000 Owners Club. I've done it several times. This may help.

Please note that the thicknesses listed are for the EK cooling block. AIB block models may have different clearances between the cooling block and the vrm/ram. Although the difference will probably not be big, something within +-0.25 mm (not exactly).

I may try my hand at Kryosheet cause I remember back in the day, Thermal Grizzly was the only big player in town, I just know the 7950 is what everyone seemed to float towards. I have a bit of XTM60 I can use, just enough to dot the corners to hold it in place like Contra said. Too bad the 7958 doesn't come in a pad type, only a paste kind, seems like the performance option from what I read. I appreciate all of your help guys

tbh they are both excellent solutions so either one should serve you well. Also, Kryosheet is slightly easier to apply, if that matters.

I've heard nice things about thermalright, I just remember back in the day, it was kryonaut or nothing. I should probably do a before n after of my temps too. This is all with no custom fan curve btw, this is the fan curve that adrenaline sets. I love the card but I've had some issues with adrenaline, keeps resetting power limit, doesn't activate with the shortcut, hypr rx (whatever that is) doesn't work half the time. Love the card but the software is quite buggy at times, that's why I've yet to make my own fan curve.

While I too have heard good things about thermalrights PTM helios pads, it should be noted it has been shown to be a seperate formula from what honeywell sells. Which is better? Dunno. They are both probably plenty good.
