AMD Plans Aggressive Price Competition with Radeon RX 9000 Series

Price seems fine if it performs how they indicated. I did run out of patience with AMD though and got a 5080 at launch. AMD need to work on their marketing. RDNA4 so far has been a complete mess marketing wise. As a potential customer after CES I was left with the feeling they didn't have confidence in their product, had possible significant design or driver issues, and didn't have a pricing strategy. Some of that may or may not be true, but that is how it looked to a lot of people which is the fault of AMD marketing.

Overpriced. I expect around 4070 Ti with similar RT but USD 600 is way too much for that and this is the base model. When this will become available i can buy it around USD 765 (EU+VAT in HU). If i only have the 4070 Ti available this is a good price, but for this price(USD 750~) i could buy the 7900XT which is better in raster with 4 more GB(i don't care about FSR4, most games didn't even update to FSR2 let alone FSR3)
It would be good but not in USD 600 but in EUR 600.

9070XT is not a successor of 7900XT.
9070XT succeeds 7800XT.
In leaked games, 9070XT is consistently faster than 7900XT.

I agree, both are 256bit 16 GB cards, both has / will have roughly the same amount of cores (7800 XT has 3840, 9070 XT will have 4096, 6.666% more cores), AMD just renamed it (AGAIN), to confuse their customer base, it will be a 7800 XT repleacement, more expensively.

The 9070 will have even less cores, it shouldn't cost more then the 7800 XT. Because if it does, then what is the point of new generation if it faster but more expenesive as well. Though it is AMD we are talking about, their RX 480 8GB has the same amount of core as their RX 6700 10GB cards, and the latter was 2x as expensive as the former.

Doesn't matter how AMD brand it, pretty certain it'll offer almost nothing over a $620 7900xt you can buy right now... Especially at 1440p and 4k or more
We shall find out soon. It should land a notch above it, closer to 7900XTX.

We all know 16GB of VRAM will be a major problem when the next consoles release. Only nvidia is providing a future proof 24 or more GB of RAM.

Besides, AMD runs out of features before they run out of RAM. I.e., the 5000 series cards can’t run today’s releases While the Nvidia 2000 series can.
Nice selective quoting though, hand waving away AMD’s feature deficiencies.
Right. Let's go back and quote fully then.

16GB on midrage consumer cards is future-proof enough for at least two more generations and will not be a major problem on those cards.

It will be a major problem on Nvidia class 80 cards, so "16GB problem" is Nvidia problem. It's nonsense to pitty 16GB on mid range AMD cards against future consoles when Nvidia 5070 still offers paltry 12GB.

So, what you are describing as "major problem" will be Nvidia's problem, as it is them who have been super stingy on VRAM on most cards.

This is sarcasm right? I mean it has to be, otherwise you might as well be an Nvidia bot that posts the same BS on every tech forums as propaganda.

no, as a 1440p gamer a 5070 ti would grant me the 80 fps or so needed for multi frame gen to work properly, and I only play single player games, so multi frame gen is actually really useful tech for someone with my use case

that being said, i am sticking with my 7900 xt, but eh sometimes i get annoyed by how blurry FSR looks in games, DLSS is better, and I dislike Nvidia, but its a fact so eh

I read some of the posts. Do you guys think for 5070 Ti you can have $750 and actually buy it? If it were so, then yes, at most 10% would buy 9070 XT. That is 20% cheaper, but looks like it needs to be 30%.
Biggest difference is Nvidia's MSRP is not even real and it is only for FE.
AMD's MSRP on the other hand will be real plus AIBs will only charge $50 more for their mid offerings.

In Germany it will be something like this:
5070 Ti - €1200 (with bad availability even €1400 and it will be bad)
9070 XT - €750

That's 38% cheaper.
Do you still think it is not aggressive enough?
I mean, €600 for XT would be more for a bedtime fairytale.

I expected nothing less of AMD. Some people seem to think monkeys run AMD. Of course if we common people came up to $500 and $600 numbers that it wasn't that hard for the bright minds at AMD.

So far it seems this will be the best GPU release since GTX 10 in 2016.

9070xt should be 550 and 9070 should target the 400-450.
AMD would be killer

AMD knows this generation is going to underperform compared to the already underperforming Nvidia 5000 GPUs. Both of these generation GPUs are very lackluster. I'd not plan on upgrading a GPU in 2025, I'd wait for the next generation.

This estimate seems pretty pessimistic. In countries with 20% VAT, I'd expect something around 1000€ for the basic models (i.e. not the overpriced MSI listing that's doing the rounds today).

Multiframe generation is just as useless as single frame generation is, that is it smoothes the picture a bit, but sacrifices picture quality and stability to do it. I'd rather shoot for even higher frames and lower latency in order to acheive better gameplay over using frame generation. BTW you can't use FG in competitive games as literally it adds fake frames and throws you off of your game, it cuts your precision and ability to see clearly.

Previously, the 600-650 price range was reserved for Radeon RX 6800 XT.
Why did AMD put the 9700 marketing label on this card ? To show what xactly ?
Ahh…

its 9070 and not 9700 and if it is truly over 7900XT performance close to 7900XTX, then 600 MSRP is ok.

What else people will try to pull out of their bum in order to make AMD look bad… beats me.

EDIT: typo

I don't get you guys. An upgraded, AI-based FSR (which is said to be quite good), and a $150 (or 20%) lower price tag than Nvidia's is still not enough?
Once in a while the people that talk like this will show their true intentions and say something like "I hope the next Radeon card is good so that it makes the Nvidia card I want cheaper." There was never intention to "switch teams" even if AMD put out a 5090 killer for $1.

It means the 9700 XT should cost not more than 499$, but preferably lower than 479$. While the pure 9700 349$.

I am afraid it won't sell, but will be DOA.
No buy from me.
Let's hope it is 500-550$. Now you can't compare it to the 6700xt, because that was in 2020-2021 and inflation since then is quite high, while the 9070xt was said to be 391mm^2 which is 16.3% bigger than the 6700xt, both are monoliths too. So 55-560$ is more like the ideal price for it and 600$ is most likely.

Is it just me or is this sounding like the 7000-series fiasco all over again? You know, where AMD discounted their most expensive cards that few were buying, thus making that discount mostly pointless; but kept the prices on their midrange SKUs close enough to NVIDIA's, that people just went for the latter instead?

$499 for 9070 is under the psychological $500 window which is good, but I really don't feel like ~10% less than 5070 is going to be enough of a discount to tempt buyers, unless the former's performance is ferocious. edit I'd much prefer to see 9070 come in at $449 i.e. a full hundred bucks below 5070, a difference that would itself be a significant psychological threshold.
The thing is the 6700XT sold just fine.

The street prices of the new Nvidia gpu's are much greater then the MSRP. I expect 5070 Ti not less then 950-1000 euro street price. And AMD 9070 XT around 700-750 euro.
The 9070 XT "reference" by AMD will no where to be seen, as has always been since 2017 - and the partners cards wll go for Nvidia-like prices as usual, or may be 50 euro less - the classic 50 euro that change nothing and push people to continue buying Nvidia.

Only with RT most probably, which will be unplayable without upscaling anyway. Not long till reviews hopefully.

9070xt only has 64 CU and 256bit memory interface. Can't escape the hardware, just like 5080 flop.

Yeah, 64 CU and a 256b bus with GDDR6 - pretty weak IMHO. They had plans for a bigger RDNA4 GPU, but that died b/4 it even got to tape out. Hopefully, for all AMD fans, it's a decent bump over the 7800XT. My last wack at an AMD card was a 7900XT. Sadly, the drivers were terrible in a couple of games I was playing at the time :shadedshu:.

Really dude? The 2 decades old bullshit propaganda, the dumb online trolling how AMD drivers bad, Nvidia drivers good! Really? AMD have not had any major driver issue for at least 5+ years, yeah they've had driver issues, but not major ones. In fact it was Nvidia who's had garbage drivers in the past decade, in fact they released not one, but two drivers that caused black screen of death and killed GPU's.

I bought the GTX 1060 6GB at time and had video issues for over a year before they actually fixed it. When using the PC like watching videos, online or through a media player on my HDD it would cause green screen, the only way to fix it was to restart the PC. This issue was going to for one and a half year before they fixed it. The issue occurred sometimes 3-4 times per day.

I don't remember the game, but it used to crash all of the time, I remember Nvidia noted the issue in their drivers issues, but took 6 months to fix it.

GTA 5 was crashing so often it was insane, it took them two years to release a good driver that would fix the constant crashing in one of the most popular games of all time. TWO YEARS!

My 7800XT now has never ever crashed or had any issue at all. Smooth sailing all of the time.

Both companies are going to have occasional driver issues, there is no question about that, but its been Nvidia which has had the way worse driver issues over the past decade and took them longer to fix them!!!

Ever since buying my GTX 1060, it took 2 years for it to actually run properly and not have an issue with it, for 2 years there were always issues and I didn't even buy it when it released, I bought it about a year later. And most of the issues were reported and known issues that they just didn't fix for years!

Don't ignore the roughly 25% higher clock speed.

I bought an AMD Radeon. The drivers weren’t working correctly on two games I was playing. That’s all. I didn’t make a blanket statement. Cry somewhere else. Geez.

I already covered this noise earlier. The market went KERCHUNK and AMD stopped production on enthusiast 7000 series cards way earlier than expected.
By the time 9000 series finally drops, that's all that's going to be available along with maybe some 5000/6000 series stragglers and the usual 580 CN choppers.
AMD is contributing to the market problem. Unlike some of you I'm not afraid to call this out.
