I just checked around some of the main retailers in OZ and not only are there no 50 series stocks, but there are also no 4080 series, 7900XTX, 4070Ti series and 4070 series stock. What the hell is going on? I get end of life products but that's always been a gradual process and not one that comes into effect immediately upon a new generation launching.

Even 7900 xtx sold out in USA for awhile recently. Demand is heavy due to local LLM AI models being able to run perfectly fine on all the cards you just mentioned. It's basically similar to the crypto shortage several years ago, this its AI. My buddy irl still thinks he will get a 5090 in Europe in the next few months... I don't have the heart to tell him he probably won't get one until 2026, maybe even 2027, the way AI is moving product.

In Australia? More like, anywhere in the world. Either you don't find stock, or the one you find is overpriced

No, I don't think that a card being 20, 30, 40, 50% more expensive than when it launched counts as "in stock"

I found 5 series GPUs in Australia when I looked, pity they were in pre built systems only.
Retailers are hogging them all to scalp for themselves.

To be honest, if people can afford a 5080 or 5090, they deserve it. Remember its them who are making nvidia disgustingly rich and the cause of these cards being nearly 4 times what they should be. Why not give that money to charity?

Yep, AMD and NV might have overcorrected this time (on purpose?) and actually made sure existing stock is gone before launching the new series of cards.

Inflates the street price of the new series while telling everyone "hey look, MSRP is down!".

If AMD actually has good supply of 9070 cards out there, they might actually manage to sell some cards if they're the only (sorta kinda) reasonably priced option out there come March 6th...

Haha, no, even with AMD's relative incompetence at making a flagship gaming GPU, it's not gaming revenue making Nvidia disgustingly rich. It's the enterprise segment, primarily driven by AI. When DeepSeek AI with lower system requirements came out, $NVDA took a plunge, and guess why? Because the market feared that they'd need to sell less NVIDIA AI hardware to satisfy demand. It's irrational like that, then it clicked them that less sys reqs = more AI processed with the same HW = stock stabilized.

There are a few 4070 Super's and Ti Super's around in the UK but it seems like the few that have them have added around 10% to the price from what I can see.
