Just a general reminder (based on a few LQ's I've done), this is a thread about W11, with focus on tweaks, tips, help etc.

If you've nothing to offer that benefits W11 users, don't post.

Ok so I just posted my results stating facts that Windows 10 has better FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 on decent hardware and post was marked as "low quality". I guess this forum is basically like Reddit.

Say something remotely negative about Windows 11? Get down-voted to oblivion lol.

Are you MS representatives or something?

The thread is for discussion about W11. It's in the OP.

It's simply not about whether it's better or worse.

So I figured out how to not show all MS Office files on Onedrive in the Explorer Home thing: Go to settings, and under privacy disable Show files from Office.com. Now it's just plain old recent files, as nature intended and also the name Recent implies. With the option enabled, all MS Office files in the Onedrive is market as recent even if they haven't been opened in years.

Windows 11 pro 24h2 needs now a working internet connection for the monthly winodws update package from computerbase.de/downloads

the installation succeeds with network connection.

Screenshot 2025-02-13 124130.png

The previous month I could install that package without the network connection.

The network connection doesn't need to be connected to the internet does it?

Has anyone else run into the problem where Windows stops reacting to mouse clicks - Taskbar, Start Menu, any windows or their elements but mouse moves, keyboard works and for example right-click on desktop works? Not always a problem, restart helps. So does turning the mouse on and off, or connecting-disconnecting. Tried a different mouse - same story.

Can't say I have.

From time to time I encounter a somewhat similar issue but it's more like the system takes time to respond to a click on a Start menu item, the mouse is still functional.

Take with a grain of salt but it seems like Microsoft is removing support for 8th to 10th Gen Intel CPUs for 24H2 Windows 11. EDIT: Seems to be OEM only?

This article however is not listed in the index so I'm not sure if it's still under revision or what

Still funny how I can run W11 on my Ivy Bridge E setup without issue. Including 24H2.

Yes, it's for OEMs only and an attempt to stop shipping new systems in 2025 and beyond with old hardware.

Windows 11 will still be supported as long as you have TPM 2.0.

I think I found it. Multiple instances of explorer.exe running on the system. And when extra ones were killed, everything worked fine. After some consideration I had the "Launch folder windows in a separate process" checked in Folder Options, unchecked it and the problem has not come back since.
This started with some recent Windows Updates - both my machines running into this had W11 23H2.

Welp. My time has come my brothers. If this wrecks my laptop. Its going to be a lot difficult to fix it here.

And before anyone asks. I didnt choose to install it. It chose to install itself.

This is only applicable to OEMs, not existing consumers.

No that is a fact. Microsoft removed support for at least a few intel processors for w11 24h2

Before reposting - you may first - check microsoft homepage yourself first.

I think DR DRO postet it on another topic.

I checked microsoft homepage a few hours ago-> than subpage -> than subpage. Which gives you some sort of hardware requirement page for w11 24h2 for intel, amd and, arm?

what i remember
23h2 support ends around november 2025
my sold notebook which i disliked had intel mobile 8550u processor, which was not more on that 24h2 hardware requirement list. That processor was on the 23h2 intel hardware list

I looked over it several times by hand. I used the browser serach feature only on the intel lists for 23h2 and 24h2.

post #5660 shows screenshot of that page i found yesterday myself

Yesterday I started from the buy windows 11 pro page in english from microsoft. than subpage -> subpage -> subpage.

The network connection doesn't need to be connected to the internet does it?

I think you know it anyway by now. I'm a long term gnu getnoo linux user.

I bootup my w11pro 24h2 with the uefi bootloader. W11 pro has only an offline user and is always started without wlan. Wlan is set to metered connection. I only use my smartphone hotspot for the internet.

100% - i checked before - before posting. Without internet that windows 11 update package from computerbase.de/downloads does not install.

You need a working internet connection - I call it online DRM - to install it.

Next bug. Those files do not remove themself

I'm kinda certain that was not there. Lint files which did not remove themself. I doubt I got any meaningful information that ~1GB folder was space wasted on C:

MY post #5657 shows the same microsoft number - now its 100% sure for myself.

--
--

weekly german language clickbait PCGH - problems with windows 11 - summary issues with the file explorer (that page has a lot of advertisements, random clickbait buy amazon stuff, and quite regularly windows 11 issues articles ...)

-- edit

Now when I think about it. Speculation - no facts. When microsoft wants to hard limit those "free update guys" - the only way would be to introduce online checks before accepting offline update packages. Microsoft does it totally wrong. Microsoft should compile the windows kernel for a higher platform with instructions which the unsupported processors do not have.

Just reading through your post. It would seem that my 8250u is no longer on the supported list.

Crossing my fingers that it's not going to cause me much trouble. Laptop has been working great with windows 11 so far.

Please check yourself that subpage. Support End is around 16th October 2025 for w11 23h2 with most likely also your 8250u laptop processor.

A smart guy may sell quick his w11 laptop. Not everyone is smart enough to know such details. I will benefit from that next january 2026 - as no current windows is running - makes older intel and amd notebooks cheaper. companies and all those refurbish companies will have to get rid of their unsupported w11 24h2 hardware

Im not too fussed. This laptop was a cheap refurb anyway.

If Windows 11 stops working on it then I'll switch to Win 10. But also due to change in living circumstances. I'll be upgrading to a much more modern ZenBook Eventually.

couple things.
8th gen is 8 years old. well past the acceptable service life for most businesses also microsoft hasn't removed support for it they have removed support for OEMS shipping windows 11 on such platforms Please don't parrot misinformation

Changes to the processors listed do not indicate or impact a customer’s existing Windows support and are intended for OEMs to determine processors which may be used in new Windows devices

secondly you can still install windows 11 offline OOBE BYPASS/NRO still works

You are referring to the CPU's without the POPCNT instruction. This latest announcement is for OEMS ONLY.

It was not myself who found this change. As mentioned earlier - I checked it myself - before.

Windows 11 version 24H2 supported Intel processors

The processors listed represent the processor models which meet the minimum floor for the supported processor generations and up through the latest processors at the time of publication.

Just for you I searched one of those pages.

Just for you: Is the 8550u processor in that list?

Or is that i7-8550u processor only in that list?

Will you say: I'm sorry or will you ignore this post?

Just for you I searched one of those pages. It was so hard to look it up yourself before you post

It was not in the vivaldi browser cache. There is a page over it for all revision and processor requirements, as described.

Just for you: Is the 8550u processor in that list?
You are missing the point. The above announcement is an exclusion list for OEM's, IE Original Equipment Manufacturers, IE major system builders like Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. It is NOT an exclusion list for general consumers or brick & mortar custom PC builders.

msOEMCPUreqmnts.jpg

It was not in the vivaldi browser cache.
Perhaps you should use a properly configured browser, like Firefox, and you might have fewer problems. If Vivaldi has the option, turn off web page caching and some of your problems will instantly disappear.
