QNAP Systems, Inc., a leading computing, networking, and storage solutions innovator, has released the new 4-port 2.5GbE and 2-port 10GbE Multi-Gigabit (total of 6 ports) unmanaged switch, QSW-2104-2T-R2. With a compact desktop form factor, the QSW-2104-2T-R2 offers excellent heat dissipation, quiet operation, automatic detection, and bandwidth optimization. With the QSW-2104-2T-R2, users can create a stable and efficient network environment on a budget, easily handling high-speed storage, Wi-Fi 6/6E/7, or multimedia workflows demands.

"When there are multiple network devices with 2.5GbE or higher speeds, connecting to a high-speed switch can enhance overall transmission performance and collaboration productivity," said Ronald Hsu, Product Manager of QNAP, adding "The budget-friendly, easy-to-use QSW-2104-2T-R2 2.5GbE/10GbE switch features Multi-Gig RJ45 ports compatible with existing network cables for users to overcome transmission bottlenecks. The QSW-2104-2T-R2 is a high-speed LAN switch for homes worth investing in for 2025, ideal for gaming, large file transfers, and high-resolution media streaming."

The QSW-2104-2T-R2 offers efficient 2.5GbE/10GbE network transmission. Featuring four 2.5GbE and two 10GbE ports, the QSW-2104-2T-R2 complies with the NBASE-T standard to offer speeds of 2.5G, 1G, 100M, and 10G, 5G, 2.5G, 1G, 100M, providing a total switching capacity of up to 60 Gbps. It supports 12 KB Jumbo Frame and IEEE 802.3x flow control to significantly improve large file transfer efficiency and reduce packet loss, ideal for handling large-capacity data and high-resolution video files. The 4K MAC Address Table ensures precise data transmission and efficiency when transferring data between multiple devices. Built-in network loop detection and blocking features can instantly lock down network ports with loops, assisting the network quickly resume normal operation.

There's no need for complicated configuration to set up the unmanaged QSW-2104-2T-R2. It supports Auto Negotiation to automatically detect the optimal transmission speed based on the connected device. Users can use existing CAT 5e/Cat 6 cables to achieve 2.5GbE/10GbE high-speed connections, saving time and cost. Featuring a fanless design with efficient heat dissipation, the compact desktop-sized QSW-2104-2T-R2 operates without any distracting noise. It also has EEE low-power energy-saving features and Class B low electromagnetic interference certification, making it ideal for placement in office environments.

Announcing something as "affordable" without mentioning pricepoint/MSRP is bit weird but at least on BHphotovideo its listed (obviously no stock yet) for $119.00 which seems reasonable.

I've got the older model of this and overall I like it. It does seem to get too hot sometimes despite the metal enclosure and locks up, forcing me to pull the power for a couple seconds to do a reboot. It doesn't happen a lot, but often enough that I notice it. Hopefully they fixed that issue in this hardware refresh.

Trendnet offers switch with similar connectivity options for similar prices so nothing out of ordinary.
I have this switch, constantly overheats, even at 24°C room temperature - do not buy the TRENDnet TEG-S762!
This is why mentioned the MIKROTIK CRS304-4XG-IN in the other thread.
Which costs almost double, yet it worsk
Only 4 ports tho, which is ok for me since I need only 3.

I don't know if this QNAP is any better regarding thermal management.

My old Netgear GS110EMX got too hot to touch sometimes, as they used a very low profile enclosure for it, although it never locked up.
My 5-port TP-Link TL-SX105 barely gets warm to the touch, despite being all 10 Gbps, so it seems to depend a lot on the chip used and the housing/heatsink.

Is that a 1.0R or a 2.0R?
They appear to have different chips in them based on the hardware revision.

What's the difference between QSW-2104-2T and QSW-2104-2T-R2?

Read the article a couple of times, in case that somehow I missed the price before I decided to check the comments.

Thanks for the confirmation that I'm not blind...yet. :D

I have the same issue with my Buffalo switch, which seems to be very similar to this and the trend net models.

Some actual ventilation is needed. ?Not fans, but at least some mesh to encourage airflow.

2.0R, but neither of them have a good reputation.
That's disappointing, as you'd think they'd fixed the issue.
I have the TEG-S380 2.0R 8-port 2.5 Gbps switch to distribute Ethernet around our flat and it has been flawless.

Well, maybe I am just lucky
It got hot even when only using the 2.5Gbit ports

That's a really good price for two 10GBASE-T ports

I'd love to get a review of it regarding the heat. I'd need to buy two of them, difficult to jump without knowing they function properly given they're fanless.
