Suddenly such big power supply units make sense with the introduction of the newer nvidia graphic cards.

A few months ago I would have considered anything bigger as up to 850W far too big.

I sometimes wonder how's the difference between a gold and a platinum power supply unit is for the bill of materials. I doubt the few extra parts justify a price hike of 200€ per unit.

Actually, if the damn cards had two of these connectors, the would probably carry less current per wire, therefor, MAYBE, not melt miserably due to manufacturer error.

Ah, Fortron. I loved using them back in the day before we had auto load-line calibration; adjusting the pots to over-volt/stabilize rails. Good times. Over-specced and built like a tank, too. Anyone else do that?

I mean, yeah, now I just buy a sparkle/super flower/whatever rebrand like everyone else, but back then Fortron were SPECIAL.

This is what happens when Nvidia is either too lazy or to stupid to make power efficient GPUs.
Other companies have to come up with solutions to a problem not of their making.
Maybe GPUs should have a mandated Power usage cap that manufacturers have to comply with.
Run that industry like car manufacturing with design rules and government mandated requirements.
I haven't seen fuel consumption go up to stupid levels despite HP increasing over the decades.
