It all still fits in the general strategy AMD has for dGPU on PC:

its there as a testing ground for their APU / custom soc business, stay in touch with the market, etc.
Its not, explicitly not, there to move ever more GPUs for PC gaming. AMD moved its GPU revenue to the consoles a while ago. RDNA4 is clearly focused on that too.

"I’m an 80% kind of guy"

Going after the Intel marketshare on laptops etc?!
If dGPUs get unobtanium, AMD has a unique selling position with a strong APU business. They've always pushed fast integrated graphics. Intel is developing graphics more seriously, too. If they want to keep selling APUs, they better have a stronger IGP AND CPU component.

And that's not even counting the console business indeed. I reckon more than half of Zen's consumer presence will hinge on IGP performance in the end. AMD is really triple dipping in their technological advantages and synergies.

Gamers: I'd rather buy a $500 card for $1000 than a $700 card for $700.

Hopefully there's more than 5 in stock, competition in the foodstamp friendly low low sub $1000 street price range is a good thing.

Considering everything, I just cant find a way for AMD to win in this market. Nvidia set the market so well that there is just no correct price for this cards. They're expected to compete with 5070TI and undercut its completely imaginary MSRP, set cleverly by Nvidia and its partners, at least 20% of even when they are giving similar gaming future set this time around with FSR4 (AI based like DLSS) and similar RT performance. Even if they actually do that, all Nvidia has to do is to make 5070TI MSRP real again. And what if they sell it under 600$? Suddenly 5070 is actually available everywhere in its 550$ MSRP at launch and maybe even slightly less to bother both 9070 and XT pricing. What about crazy 500$ range? Congratulations, 5070s' are now unofficially discounted 50$ (similar to what AMD does every generation after a while). But unlike AMD, Nvidia can actually afford this.
Yes, lower prices are a big win for us, gamers. But I just dont see a win for AMD in any case. Just looking at the comments on a hardware forum like this one pretty much tells me that. Even though this mid-class? GPU expected to match their previous top-end and even beat it on RT all we talk about here is just pricing.

This is the marketshare generation, and the 5070 isn't an equal to the 9070 XT. If your concern is gaming and an XT is priced $50 under a 5070 and has 33% more VRAM and performs as well as a 5070 Ti it's a no-brainer. Even people who use it for non-gaming tasks would have to take notice, it's too good of a deal not to pass up especially if the non-XT model is priced awesome too.

At $500 I think it'd be making less margin than a 7800 XT, but I don't think they'd be selling at a loss.

I'll put this here. This Video pretty much Validates everything I have been mentioning for a few weeks now.

It's Steve from Gamer's Nexus.

Steve are teaching them (AMD) like a little kids. :D Well that's actually how smart they are.

I never thought I would say this, but currently Intel offers THE BEST value for money.
If AMD wants to compete, then they need to compete for the first places not on performance, but on Performance/Dollar and Cost/Frame.
Anything else is a waste of silicon, considering that nGreedia is marching with the DLLS 4 and ultra fake frames with low input lag.

BS
b580 cant do 4K so its unplayable
b580 in 4k =36fps avg

So is not the best if u cant even play those games.

And DLSS is just great, great FPS boost and even better image Vs native

I can't handle idiots.
Time to look mirror..

Unfortunately gaming is an afterthought for nvidia now and that will show its colors in time. They only care about datacenters and AI these days.
So i can see a great chance for amd to shake things up going forward in the gaming department.

Do not forget the big problem with Intel's GPUs and their driver overhead demanding expensive CPU to just run as intended at 1080P and 1440P though. Not much value there in the end.

Intel's driver overhead issue is overblown. The B580 still wins narrowly over the 4060 when paired with a Ryzen 5600, for example. You might say, "But Zen 3 is far from the slowest CPU arch that consumers might use," and you'd be right, but everyone already knew (or should know) not to use Intel GPUs without Resizable Bar. In other words, no one should have thought about pairing B580 with anything older than Zen 2, even before we heard about the overhead issue. Sure, B580 isn't the towering value giant touted in initial reviews when you pair it with a slow CPU, but it ranges from decent to great if your rig is less than let's say 6 years old.

You're still getting a credible 1440p card with 12 GB VRAM for an unbeatable price in the current market, if you can find a B580 at MSRP. That's the real problem for Intel, and for Nvidia's Blackwell, and hopefully not for RDNA4: availability.

This is the "scenario" I think Steve Burke missed. We know some shops have received stock since December and availability might be much better than NVIDIAs offerings but it still might not be enough, and AMD knows they just need to price them low enough as to sell them all out, which seems like a low bar to clear today.

Unplayable for you, not everyone plays games in 4K. It is disappointing to see people not understand what price/performance means and I think it's part of the reason why the GPU market is such a mess.
Not just for me, if 4k is unplayble because slow GPU there is no value for those who 4K gaming.
Same whit 1440p and 1080p
And max settings gaming.

Price/perf. means if u cant play u games in 4K whit that GPU then that GPU is not good value, even if its best of the best in Price/perf charts.
Price/perf is subjective, if u think anything else then its not so wise

i can also say Gtx970 is best price/performance (It will be in top of the charts if u get one lets say 30$)

I predict a perfect shot to the big toe by AMD.

I am with Steve. They need customers. No one will buy if they are Nvidia -50, except diehards.
