That's not something I ever saw. I only so manual update for critical security problems. Windows update does not run on my systems.
Perhaps something changed since, but the cumulative updates wouldn't install anymore after removing Edge back then. I would restart Windows to apply the update, it would go on and then fail around the end and revert. I had to reinstall the damn OS.
I don't remember how I did it, and perhaps it's not such a show stopper anymore since we're theoretically able to uninstall Edge from the GUI after the digital market act went into effect (not in my case), but back then it horribly messed something up. But how retarded is the overall design when a fucking browser is interconnected with installing updates? I mean WTF!

Gah, I need to install a new notebook for someone who wants Windows 11. I guess I do have to install it in a VM and refresh my unattended setup after all. I've been holding that off for a long time for laziness reasons.
Maybe I'll make the switch on my PC as well if it works fine. I do remember someone going on a crusade in this thread about FPS being lower in 11 vs 10 though. Is that true at all? It's not like I need to care with the graphic card I have and what I play, but at the same time, I don't like using something that's messed up one way or another out of general principle.

You should give the following a look. Very handy.
Also, use a 23H2 ISO and block updates for a few months so microsoft has more time to sort things out.
It might be worth it to skip 24H2 altogether and go with 25H2, presuming it's not riddled with issues too. If it is, you know people will chime in about it..

I do remember someone going on a crusade in this thread about FPS being lower in 11 vs 10 though. Is that true at all?
It's very situational, but generally no. The differences are margin of error when comparing a stock 10 vs stock 11 install. It changes somewhat depending on the custom configuration set by the user. The way that I run Windows, no, Windows 10 is not as fast. Win11 consistently wins out. However, we're talking about low single digit percentages so it's very much not worth debating about as much as has been previously.

I don't like using something that's messed up one way or another out of general principle.
Right there with you. In this context it's a non-issue.

Ok so an update on this, after much experimentation it seems that with 24H2, if you remove the Edge browser, it breaks Windows Explorer. To that I say: Really microsoft? Was this deliberate? Or was this incompetence? Either way, it's unacceptable. Fix it.
In the mean time, I'm going to go with 23H2 for my next install.
Yes. I tried uninstalling Edge because I don't use it and found that certain MS apps and System features broke. Either errors or simply no GUI showed up at all. I'm guessing the EU will, again, be the ones who crack down on this.

Also, in Windows 11 news, for me, I pretty certain that I will do a fresh install of Win11 2h24 this spring. I hate having to do it, but i'm getting annoyed at the problems. One is slower launch times for applications (I use a spinning cursor and am starting to curse the cursor). That and games are crashing far more often than usual. Debating if I should wind it back and skip 2H24 on the new install. What a pain in the neck.

I have just tried installing 24H2 in a VM. Microsoft seems to have sneakily changed some stuff.
I have an unattended installation, and previously (until and including Win10) it was enough to keep boot.wim, install.wim and setup.exe in the \sources folder in order for the installation to proceed. If I do that now, I get stuck before the disk configuration takes place, the setup complaining about having to install driver to see hardware. I couldn't figure it out completely, but it seems a lot of the files from "sources" that were previously completely useless are now required even if you boot from the installation media instead of doing an upgrade (which I presume all the junk is mostly related to).
The installation also repeatedly failed with "installation failed" (or something) error. Just marvelous.
I could also not make the installation go fully unattended, it always showed me the disk configuration screen despite the System image manager from ADK not showing me any errors and the same setup (with changes relevant to whatever new version of Windows I was moving to) working in Windows 10 like a charm.

I think I will stick with Windows 10 for a few more months. This hasn't convinced me one fucking bit.

Is there any generally accepted (among people, not an official statement or anything) list of major problems with 24H2 out there?

Oh and when it comes to uninstalling Edge officially, I figured it out, and it's even more retarded than I thought.

It turned out you can only do this if you used installation media in a language that falls into the EU territory. I am from Czech republic, but for 25 or so years have used everything related to IT stuff in english. I want to have my OS in english, but I fucking do live in EU. My regional settings are czech, my IP is in Cz, and yet I can't do this, because I wanted to have the stupid OS interface in english.

Fuck you Microsoft, fuck you very much.

i have W11 on new a laptop that isn't used for gaming (not even once) and isn't my main machine (that's my desktop and it's on W10, and i still prefer W10 for several reasons) but i do some work on it every day. And it's always updated.
I've never encountered any bugs (a single one) or issues with W11, in fact i encounter a lot more technical issues with W10 but i guess that's normal as it has a lot more stuff going on every day, not sure what to think of this. Maybe if you push W11 (gaming, lots of stuff open at the same time, more heavy loads,etc...) the experience gets worst, but some normal work it seems like it handles just fine.

Welp. My time has come my brothers. If this wrecks my laptop. Its going to be a lot difficult to fix it here.

And before anyone asks. I didnt choose to install it. It chose to install itself.

Good point, I'll try this in VM later on.
I HOPE uninstalling Edge officially doesn't break any other functionality like people reported when doing it via any other way.

Yep, it's why i went back to Windows 10 after 3 weeks trying to fix the stutters. It was a fresh clean install of 24H2 with the Media Creation Tool even, so that couldn't be the problem.

Hopefully a future update fixes Windows 11, otherwise it's going to be a problem.

Windows 10 is butter smooth, so it's not an issue with my hardware.

I know it's not relevant to this thread, but uninstalling Edge in Windows 10 in the EU seems to be impossible after all.
I did a clean install from czech language variant of installation media downloaded through the media creation tool from Microsoft, updated the OS with the lastest cumulative update, and the fucking uninstall option for Edge is STILL GREYED OUT.
Bunch of liar this bunch, really.

Offering the following in the spirit of directly contrasting localized opinion. On the off chance it might be of worth to someone else less than satisfied with their results.

With fairly recent hardware (installed very few updates near install to check what good deeds were reverted) 24H2 was sub-optimal until I recently installed a number of optional Intel programs provided directly from mobo driver page. Transformation was immediate and stark. Browsers suddenly opened instantly as did Windows Explorer windows. A wide range of conflicts appeared to find resolutions impactful to overall functionality.

Goes (nearly) without saying substantial changes from vanilla W11 were in place before machine was given internet on fresh install. ME, BIOS, drivers, etc. all current

Clarify which programs, please.

Personally, though, I always install chipset drivers and such manually, downloading them from the hardware manufacturer, not the motherboard maker's website.

Real world differences exist between manufacturers and models. Examine options relevant to you for programs and drivers non-essential to basic functionality.

You just described microsoft management in it's current form.

as somebody thats probably installed windows 11 more then anybody in this thread
Considering that you can't possibly know the activities of many others, that statement instantly disqualifies anything else you say..

Freaking M$'s windows dev team needs a beating or something.
Not sure that would make a difference.
