With the release of the Radeon RX 9000 series, it seemed like a great time to start a club for everyone to discuss, compare performance, and share experiences. Pretty sure I’m not the first here. Keep it civil, have fun, and let’s talk GPUs! Looking forward to seeing everyone’s builds, benchmarks, and tweaks! So, welcome!

Btw, here it is, my Sapphire Pulse RX 9070 purchased at "mythical" MSRP :rockout:

I treated myself to a PowerColor 9070 XT for €728 ($792), which is (or should I say was) the MSRP in my country. After the first batch sold out, they raised the price to €865 ($940). The fake MSRP and price hikes from both AMD and Nvidia leave a bad taste in my mouth.
At this point both of them Nvidia and AMD mastered in marketing shenanigans......As I see this fake MSRP are like a bread bait for a big fish just enough to get us interested in GPU's then when the price hike up we look like a catfish that are running to snatch that big lure and the worst part is that when we are already on the hook with the lure in our mouth we are so happy that we get that GPU for just 200$+ above the MSRP.....just wonderful....

I just wanted to open the club, but you were quicker. Nice! :D

Anyway, here's mine:

IMG_20250307_191423_460.jpg

Has anyone tried the card under Linux?

I have under Bazzite, which seems to be a mixed bag for now. The card runs, does Freesync and HDR out of the box, I've even managed to do a Superposition run with 13.7k points.

But my games won't run. Apparently, you need kernel version 6.13, which I have, but also Mesa 25, which I don't have. I guess I'll have to wait for the Bazzite team to catch up. :(

Hey everybody, such a great start, already 3 owners in less than 12h, that's looking promising!!! Keep them coming :toast:

A serious doubt, how's your memory temp doing? I know this has been discussed in other threads, but now that some of us own the card, I wanted to share my findings.
  • VRAM Full idle: 50º-51ºC
  • VRAM Max when light browsing: 53º-55ºC
  • VRAM Max when watching youtube (1440p-4K): 59º-60ºC
  • VRAM Max while game-stress: 82-84ºC
I know these temps are within safe specs, but I noticed a ~10ºC increase compared to the 7800XT under the same conditions. Despite the somewhat high VRAM temps, they’re not that far off from the 7900 XT, based on what I’ve seen. Meanwhile, GPU and Hotspot temperatures clearly benefit from the pass-through design and less TDP, running 5-10ºC lower than the 7800XT
  • Hot Spot - Min 32°C - Max 70°C
  • GPU - Min 29°C - Max 56°C
  • Max GPU clock: 2831 MHz
  • Max Mem clock: 2505 MHz
This is still pure stock and after 1-hour/hour-and-half of different 3D tests, I’ll have to invest some time fine-tuning it, just like I did with my previous card.

So, how’s yours behaving thermally?

edit: I used last version of HWMonitor but it's from early February, I might have to take a look at different monitoring software to get more consistent results.

That looks really good! :)

My Reaper XT is as follows:
  • GPU around 60-65 under load,
  • Hotspot at 85 under load,
  • VRAM at 75 during light browsing, 90 under load.
  • Clock reporting isn't very accurate in the Linux system monitor - it shows 2.8-2.9 GHz on the core under load.

Give that about 1 month, maybe 6 weeks. The Bazzite devs are working on it already.
That's awesome news, thanks!

Anyway, I wasn't planning on buying the card right now - I wanted it for my birthday at the end of March. Only that I had to jump to make sure I'm not overpaying on later shipments. So 6 weeks isn't a big deal. :)

I'd link what I read but I can't find it now. Might have been deleted, can't imagine why though. It would seem they are actively working on the new NV, AMD and Intel cards. It's only matter of time until they have working solutions for them. Only makes sense.

I've read an article that says you need Mesa 25 for RX 9000 cards, so I assume that some releases already have it, just not Bazzite. No worries, I'm not in a rush.

I picked up the PowerColor Hellstone Edition  9070 XT on launch day at an Atlanta Microcenter. I'm hoping to get it installed tomorrow to see how it performs vs my 6800 XT. It should be a nice bump.

Sign me up, I ordered a Sapphire PURE AMD Radeon™ RX 9070 Gaming OC 16GB and it runs great the first benchmark I did was 3DMark Nomad with Sound and manged to get 2 achievements in 1 go

After a couple of hours gaming Assassin's Creed Mirage I can say my card is performing great GPU booting to over 3.1GHz with a max temp of 56c but memory temp is at 86c.

I already uploaded photos:
My newest purchase arrived, I paid about £21,51 more than I my Sapphire Radeon RX 9070 Pure today instead of sometime next week

That's not just the 9070. This trend has been going on for at least a decade, but it is indeed ridiculous.

I'm just glad that simple cards like the Reaper exist. I'm also glad that most people are hunting for the more extravagant ones, so I could snatch a Reaper from under their noses on launch day. :D

Currently at the part from Acer where they state "Oxygen-Free Heatpipes", it's indeed hilarious

Quite similar here on my Gigabyte Gaming OC XT unit. I only tested AC Valhalla for maybe 15mins but VRAM was at 88C max.

Is this something I should be worried about?
The maximum temperature if I remember correctly if you off my head is 95°C (203°F) for GDDR6 memory modules and for optimal performance and longevity they shouldn't go over 85°C (185°F). (I hope my Fahrenheit temperatures are correct I use Celsius myself).

So I won't personally be overclocking my card maybe I will get to undervolt it trying to see if the memory temperature will go down.

But I will keep an eye on it.

Sapphire shows on there site they use Honeywell PTM7950 on the GPU it self which does a fantastic job and the memory modules uses thermal pads I see from reviews.

And you can easily sell the xtx for more than the XT.

I'm bit out of the loop on this subject since my last two cards (30 & 4070) were pretty cool and I didn't have to worry about GPU temps for quite a few years now.

When I did a quick search for "9070xt memory gets hot" the on-topic results were headlines like "

"Some Custom AMD RX 9070 XTs Could Have VRAM Temperature Issues"

from before the official launch, based on some early benchmarks, and generally talked about it as a bad thing.

So I guess have to wait a bit to see what the word is from more users and maybe press. If it's a real issue, I'll probably try to return the card.

Well technically being under 95°C (203°F) is the safe limit, but I guess we just have to rethink fan setup and honestly I have 1 exhaust fan in my built, 2 on my cooler and 3 on my new graphics card and I cannot fit a fan under the gpu and memory because that space is occupied by one of my hdds which ain't going any where so I guess I just have to do some fan adjusting if it gets hotter than the 86°C I am seeing now (186.8°F).

If you undervolt the GPU, it will run cooler, your fans won't ramp up so much, which will result in less airflow to the VRAM. Unless you make a custom fan curve, it's not a good idea, imo.

Powercolor also has PTM7950 on their cards, and my VRAM runs at 90 ˚C under load. It's definitely not a TIM issue.
Based on the fact that everybody has their VRAM running hot on their cards, I'm starting to think that it's normal and by design.
