I didnt buy my card for DX10 or DX10.1 I bought it for better performance :D DX10 is really pretty tho. I would definatly not buy a card that doesnt have it.

seems as if none of the new 9 series will be 10.1 ... maybe the refreshed models but not the new ones

it seems to me, though, that nVidia is holding to the statement they made not to long ago about 10.1 . . . I wonder how long it will last . . . prob until they start feeling threatened by ATI again

10.1 possibly being ditched altogether? If not I would really take this as a:nutkick:

My information suggests that 3D Mark 2008....codenamed "Next" does not require DX10.1......just DX10 :p
I find that hard to believe. If thats true, then its no longer a true benchmark without including the latest official version of Directx. And by doing that, show favoritism towards Nvidia, due to them not support the latest version of Directx.

I guess Directx 10.1 will only become essential, once the Nvidia fans declare it so. Which of course will be as soon as Nvidia comes out with a Directx 10.1 card. Then it will be all important to have.

dx10.1 allows games to be coded much better then they are now. example would be a game like crysis under 10.1 would have 50,000 shaders instead of 85,000. its not big deal now i agree, but ati knoes that ppl keep their cards for a long time( u knoe who u are radeon 9800xt woners :p) they are just making things easy for ppl. it costs little is anything to have it so why not?

because, at this point - I think nVidia kinda put their foot in their mouth when they said they wouldn't support 10.1. If they were to go ahead and implement it now, only a month and a half since their "official" statement, they'd appear to be hypocritical and it could potentially hurt their fan base - although, what company hasn't done something hypocritical at one point or another.

either way, ATI has always been very, very quick to jump on any new technology, almost always hitting the market with it before nVidia. Only time they slipped up was with a DX10 offering, and I think that had more to do with the AMD + ATI merger that was getting underway at the time. nVidia tends to not get onto new tech until they either have to (fans demanding it), or they realise they're losing market share to ATI because of a lack of support on their part.

Nvidia will support DX10.1 with their top end cards though. I agree its pants them not doing it with their mid rangers :shadedshu

10.1 = 10.0

It just means that certain features that really have little affect aren't forced on. Woooooo

DirectX sucks a big one anyway. Lower image quality and slower than OpenGL any day.

Developers, bring back OpenGL and quit being M$'s slaves.

Agreed. OpenGL for life! :rockout:
