If I remember correctly, according to last year's roadmap, in december 2007 the Q6600 should have dropped from 266$ to about 190-200$ (I bought an E4400 as a temporary CPU with the Q6600 in mind after the price cut). It did so good, that Intel decided to keep the price up high . Something similar happened to the E6600.

Oh a E7200 That will be the new E4300, although they have messed up the MHz. Should be 2500 even not 2530MHz or 9.5x266(1066)=2.53GHz, if they messed up the FSB. 2½Gigs brings a 12.5 multi, and 4GHz with just 320FSB.

Don't know if I want just 33% more cache and a longer wait for marginally lower price than a E8190/E8200. That again suffers from low multi and only really brings 33% more cache than E6750. But can't complain about the choices too much.

Actually, the new Quads are supposed to be delayed until march due to the overwhelming popularity of the Q6600. It's the e8XXX series that will be released on 1/20.

It looks to me that the e8400 is going to be the "sweet spot" in the new dual core series. It's quite a bit cheaper than the e8500, with very little difference in stock speed and multi.

I think you're remembering wrong, the Q6600 dropped to $266, it wasn't scheduled to drop from 266. Prior to being in the 200's it uses to be close to $500. Anyway, this says the 9450 comes out the day I get paid, also 2 days after my bday (Tomorrow =p). I sense my check will be gone as soon as its cashed

That may be the case in the US but in the UK, the difference between the 6750 and 6850 can be as much as £50 depending on retailer, thats $108. It averages though around £40......$84.

Not popularity alone, but that Intel produced too many of these and they'll bite the dust and the company will suffer losses if the newer quads are rushed in. Intel is hitting flies till the Q6600 runs out-of-stock or the introduction of newer (better priced) quads will cannibalise the Q6600. Again Intel is doing this in its own interests looking at how much stock went waste when the Conroe 1333 processors got into the Conroe 1066 market. A vague speculation would be that the leftover Conroe 1066 which were hit badly by the introduction of Conroe 1333 were recalled and rebadged into the Pentium Dual Core E2xxx chips we now see. Again, that's what I assume.

TBH in general terms, the Q6700 does not clock any better than the Q6600 on average, I am not saying that some dont so in one respect the Q9300 would be better but thge multi is lower on that so perhaps FSB limited for many, so I spose you could argue a Q6600 G0 would be as good a bet as any.

I didn't say there was greater price gap but that it was worse. The clock speed difference between the E8400 and the E8500 is 0.16 GHz. You're paying $73 more for this punny clock-speed increment whereas in the case of the E6750 and E6850, there's a 0.34 GHz increment for ~$100...get the point?

Actually the new 45nm Quads are delayed because of some bug when oc'ing that makes the Cpu break after some short time??? Or as Intel workers put it:

During a simulation, at high clock frequencies, we noticed an increase of potential failures after a designated amount of time."

But you never now with Intel, it could be BS, propably is.

Right, had you have been that specific in your origional post it would have been clearer All you actually said was the price difference.....not the price/performance ratio.
