Sorry I don't know nothing about Analysis, but the RV670 are in the market a couple months by now, should it be take in consideration by this analyst, and also considering that Cards are part from a platform "Spider" able to handle 4 GFX, Why should AMD/ATI be releasing High-end cards if they already have product to compete?

When AMD is marketing "Smarter choice", only smarter people can realize that. ;)

BTW Phenoms are not problematic, just some good bios and they rock. The problem (TLB) if exists is just in paper bcz we Phenom's users never saw it. lol

even without bios patching i havent seen a windows user who could cause the system to error no matter how hard they tryed by loading down all 4 cores.

and under linux, well u just compile the kernal to patch out the bugg, thats why they are still selling like mad to server builders :)

if nVidia did pull this off - it would seem to me to be a panic reaction to what appears to be staedily growing (once again) competition.

ATI is owned by AMD, but it's still operated independantly - which means that nVidia might cut ATI free if they decide to acquire AMD . . .

which would potentially spell doom for ATI.

TBH, I'm completely against this potential merger - nVidia has become near as powerful as Intel, and if it were left to nVidia and Intel with no other competition, you can expect hardware prices to skyrocket.
NVidia has been talking about making CPUs. This would give intel a run for it's money. In the future, I don't think there will be a need for separate CPUs and GPUs. If this is the case, then NV will need to start developing CPUs, and the easiest way to do that would be to acquire a CPU company.

This won't happen, it's only speculation and just think of the repurcusions. Nvidia needs competition to stay alive....

Yup otherwise Intel is their only Comp and Intel will eat NV alive in the CPU Market, Since Intel still Licenses Crossfire (Built into chipset regardless) But Despite the Quad Cores not going as good they are at least trying instead of staying immobile-AMD that is

If that were to occur might aswell go back to running 8088s and have the 8bit nintendo as your main gaming machine. Thats what i like is freedom of choice, you can go with AMD, ATI, Nvidia or Intel, or Via for that matter.

we will still have seprate gpu's but they will be augmented by the cpu's functions thats already the way its headed, and they are planing to add a basic GPU to the cpu to replace chipset based onboard video, this would make things easyer to update :)

real gamers will alwase need a videocard :)

TBH, dont really care if it happens or not.....possible or not etc etc Takeovers happen all the time and what I think aint gonna change things, some have argued that this would lead to a monopoly and that cannot happen, well yes it actually can, the key is how it happens but anyways.........if AMD and Intel get "into bed" then that could potentially be the end for NVidia so why would it be wrong for NVidia to consider the end of AMD?

But, as most sensible folk have said.................cant see it happening myself :D

nVidia is just a GPU designer company without production capabilities. Now when they have big money - maybe it is better to buy TSMC or UMC instead of AMD.

Tatty, you were right. Remember you once predicted AMD won't last for long?

Yes but sadly I was joking.....(I think?), they will be around for a long time I am sure, hey all of us know all too well that CPU/GPU manufacturers have their up's and downs, people seem to forget that AMD dominated the CPU market more or less for 3 years up until C2D and ATi have been more or less as dominant as Nvidia over the past 5 years or so, the skeptics among us might just think this is a ploy to further destabilise the company which in fact is showing positive signs of some resurgence, at least in the GPU market....these companies dont have 1 year plans, they work in like 5 or 10 year roadmaps so whats profit today can easily be loss tomorrow........I really do take it all with a pinch of salt TBH and I do get a little tired of too much speculation at times which is the only reason I said I was not really bothered on my last post.

I have been reading a lot of great reviews on the new HD3*** series of video cards. I was hoping that AMD/ATI would get back on their feet and all this talk about a buyout would vanish.

As for Nvidia buying AMD... I really hope it does not happen. I have always had great luck with ATI cards, and would hate to see them disappear.

this is like when i took echonolics and we had a long talk about why resessions happen, and what it comes down to is PERCEPTION, people see it on the news and in papers that we are headed into a ression and talk about it with others then prety soon they stop spending, and because most of the world is a consumer based ecoimy, this means that without people spending their $ and consuming stuff the ecoimy stalls out.

It can be hard to keep spending if inflation is killing your money or if the goods you might buy simply aren't being made or aren't available. Perception is only one aspect. The housing market isn't in shambles right now due to perception.

I would like to remind people that my free book "Don't Buy Stuff You Cannot Afford" is available, and here is a two-minute infomercial for it:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-726450075131909113

On the first page is the first I heard that AMD fired the ATI guys when they bought them. I wonder if that explains why ATI drivers used to be heralded, but the 2xxx line were a mess for a long time. The 2400/2600 for video and DVD watching in particular. They'd fix one thing and break something else. I would have tossed mine in the trash if it wasn't for the 100+ page fix-it thread on one of the audio/video sites.

yes, someone is buying amd as we speak, but it's a company you've never heard of, and i won't be the one to tell you who it is. wait for a press release.

Yeah everyone. Just wait for it all to happen. Just know that where stil going to have AMD verses Intel for long time coming!
AMD won't fall unless it really had to... And you and I both know that AMD isn't going away... IT's nothing like the whole VHS vs betamax, or Blu-ray vs HDD, or so forth.
AMD is alive and well!
