Microsoft Cuts Vista Retail Prices

Microsoft has decided that Windows Vista isn't flying off the shelves quite as quickly as it would like and has issued a price cut for three of the retail versions of the software. The retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate will see its price fall by $80 from $399 to $319, and the upgrade versions of Vista Ultimate and Home Premium will have price cuts of $40 and $30 respectively, meaning they'll now set you back $259 and $129. The price cuts will apply to 70 countries world-wide (although figures may vary slightly), and will come into place with the introduction of Service Pack One for Vista. Microsoft has already sold over 100 million copies of the operating system since its release late in 2006, but sales have been hindered slightly by users preferring to stick with Windows XP rather than move to Vista.

Meh, prices don't even matter to me considering there are still issues with some dx9 games. When Vista gets more compatibility with more games, then I am not switching no matter how much they cut the price.

Eh... I will continue using XP. I really wish the game developers would offer compatibility with Linux. I would love to forget Windows alltogether and go with Ubuntu or some other Linux OS.

I use vista 64bit business edition that I got through school, and i absolutely love it, it performs better than xp did on my rig, or so it seems. Never had an issue with anything on it.

Vista is absolute pants. I wouldn't use it if it was free. And then only if forced to (which will happen eventually is MS has it's way).

I just pulled a new Compaq F750 (VHomePrem) notebook out and thought, meh, let's see what this vista install looks like. It can't be that bad right?

There is no way that anyone can actually like this.

Thankfully a good lad has put together the XP driver pack for it, so it's going to get wiped soon.

Vista is better in so many ways. Sure there may be problems that many people do not like about it. But overall I think the public just doesnt wanna deal with all the incompatibilities that the first version of any OS ever has. Microsoft has the most ground that they have to cover in terms of compatibility with their OS than any other OS out there on this planet. Seriously give them a break already guys. Their trying hard to make everything compatible with ther OS as best they can. Meh I havent had any problems with Vista as of yet, that really werent caused by the OS itself. Yes things have happened with my OS on my computer but thats because I deleted stuff that I shouldnt have deleted on the computer lol. :shadedshu:

don't be daft - they will probably put it UP by 80p.

I have to be honest, I put Vista Home Premium 64bit on my new build PC the other week and its has been absolutley spot on. Sure, I would probably get better benchmarks and FPS in games under XP but is has been ultra stable and I have had no compatiblity issues.

I dare say many of its detractors haven't even used it. I like it. I had thought about sticking XP on my spare HDD and dual booting but I dont see the point now. As has been said before, these arguments spring up whenever a new OS comes out. In a few years time we will be moaning about Windows 7, and waxing lyrical about how awesome and stable Vista is.
