LMAO! I've half killed my card. The resistor that usually regulates voltage is dead/gone/no more, so I have to have the mod to get anything at all from the card...

I redid the mod, ya'see, because I was having a few problems with it when I was reinserting the VR (acted as though mod wasn't there) so I hardmodded it without a fail-safe and in the process killed the card...kinda... lol

Were you trying to work something like this?

It's the only thing I could think of when you said: "remove the VR".

I just used a 3-pin fan header and a jumper to enable/disable the mod.

Needless to say, it runs Crysis-Demo as smooth as a pussy and CMR DiRT at maxed settings without any drop even with ten cars on track (almost winning on 1st attempt even with kb which isn't possible when there is the slightest stuttering).

Maximus Formula this month and q6600 next, or the other way round?

Yeah, something very similar. I've removed the fail-safe now as it was interferring with the mod. Does anyone know the OCP and OVP mods and which one would be best for going over 1.5v without a black screen?

Ah, thinking about it makes me smile, just like my SKU 11122-05. Did i mention, that she's slightly beneath 37 degrees when idle and just noticable hotter when i put my hand on her long, shiny, ahm... heatpipes while gaming?

<- and she's an extraordinary outstanding beauty, isn't she? A bit lazy like a cat, but who cares...

EDIT: Forgot the proof. Have to say, this is with stock heatsink (on air) and it doesn't get higher ingame.

PPS I've flashed a V79 from a newly shipped Toxic, since it came with V67. Defaults are 800/1126, 1.241V and 1.327V AFAIK it contains minor bugfixes also. Added latest Sapphire BIOS (unmodified): View attachment RV670 Toxic 079.zip

Flashed back to the Sapphire .77 Bios and I can increase the voltage above 1.525v again. I knew it was the damn HIS bios that was doing it...

I'm told these mb's don't do over 500 fsb. Next week I'm going to try and go further.

Gotta admit, didn't expect to hit these clocks at all, nevermind with so little drama.

Question is, is this a 24/7 viable overclock?

This is the best I've done so far in 06 today when tweaking the core speed. I tested (really quickly) the memory speed last night to 2700Mhz but I only did that in one big jump. I'll tweak the memory speed a bit later but I'm MORE than happy with what I have achieved so far. Best achieve before voltage change was 880/2700 (voltage changed in CCC profile not hardware mods).

I've done it again

Using Vista 64 SP1: 1st time i tried to overclock using 8 multi instead of 9. I managed to take it into windows @ 3840 but it crash as soon as OCCT started full load and this speed is the only one i managed to complete 3DMarks @.

DAMN: still haven't managed to get the NH-U9B cpu cooler from my hardware supplier. As far as i can tell, this cooler is not being sold ANYWHERE in Portugal ... ARGH!!!!!

You're right, but that was with a 9 multi. This is my 1st bench with an 8 multi.

To reach higher with a 9 multi, i would have to increase the voltage, yet again, but with an 8 multi, i used the same voltage that i used with my last "9 multi" 3DMarks score.

In BIOS, VCore voltage is @ 1.525 but it drops to 1.42 @ full load. Ofc: i only go this high for benching. If only i could get that darn pencil mod to work: ARGH!!!

Thanks for the compliment I believe I can still go higher without upping the voltage I think. I never installed that Vista patch for 3dmark06 so I don't know if that'll do anything with my scores but it might. My temps didn't go over 67C during that testing with 95% fan speed (the same fan speed I used when doing the 8800GT OC tune I finished recently). I never even got CLOSE to those scores though with the 8800GT though but that's prolly due to the memory DDR4 on this card (well maybe not the core clock but still).

Haha, yea that is a pretty nice score for a quad core processor regardless of company. That's still a good score for a dual though as well! I know there is more left in it but I'm sticking with 3Ghz for a while until I feel it's near time to upgrade again and then I might clock it a bit further but 3Ghz is more than enough for most anything multithreaded or not.

Okay the final scores that I could bench at stable with the same level of voltage is 918Mhz core and 2830Mhz (wow) memory. I think I could do more if I upped the voltage a bit but I'm not sure if I will yet. I wanna make sure that this is perfectly stable in all applications. I have already tested the 918-2700 in Unreal 3 and Crysis without any problems after 30-45 minute runs in each. Crysis plays a lot better now with those settings I must say (on Very High for testing). It's still not as good as an 8800GT OC for Crysis playing but it's EXCELLENT for anything thing else. I'm still using the 8.3 drivers (Xtreme-G version) but I know the drivers are what's giving Crysis it's issues with the card. It plays everything else just as good if not way better than the 8800GT OC did.

Excellent card, can't wait til I put the 2nd one in .

3D06 does the math based on the max multi....myE6400 read 4.0GHz when I was testing 7X500 for benching.(multi max is 8 )
