I've seemed to have improved my score, but only by a few marks, which is a shame...

Almost 10k is nothing to sneeze at on an AMD AGP system! Nice job so far!

What's your memory looking like?

^^

Thanks man, I'm really pleased considering I'm in a Shuttle as well. Which memory are you talking about my main RAM (currently at 570MHz 3-3-3-8) or my GFX memory? Which is at 945MHz (1890).

Might have a fiddle with my main memory's timings. ^^ I'm using 2T as 1T isn't stable. :(

I meant RAM. That's real decent for it. 1T is real tough. The only sticks I've ever had that ran 1T nicely were my old OCZ DDR. They did 2-2-2-5 1T smooth as butta.

Stay tuned for a screen @ 4.5...

i can't believe that i've really done this:

Asus2.jpg

now wait til i break 10k with my good ole p4 boxed!

maybe i have to tweak my new maximus formula 'til my case is melting, but nothing's gonna stop me now lol

PS see, there's no need for voltmods or aftermarket cooling at all, p4 boxed @ 3,8 with 1,2V and sapphire silent @ 918/1323 benchstable @ 45 degrees

The funny thing is, in games it runs much better than in benches.

CMR DiRT with an avg. of 45, Crysis avg. 28 everything high, with 4xAA, 8xAF, AAA, VSync and mipmap high in 1280*1024. My 3870 breaks 50 degrees now with my cpu at 3,8. Looks like 918/1323 is gamestable for more than an hour.

This gfx card seems to be the best thing i ever bought. Really not sure wether i'm going to voltmod one day.

EDIT: I really wonder how thermopylae_480 managed to get 8072 with same CPU clocked lower than mine on a 3850 @ 715/945 because i only got 8431 with my 3870 @ 918/1323. What's his secret? The other way round: what's wrong with my system?

WOOOOOAAAAAAAHHHH.... i'm infected, can't stop pushing my poor ole P4D :D

9420 with 264 MHz FSB x 16 = 4220 MHz boxed... going further with goggles, as long as there is no smoke coming out. Think i look like Dr. Spankensteins avatar now.

Asus3.jpg

Sorry for posting so shortly after my last one, but i couldn't resist.

EDIT: tried a suicide run at 4500 MHz with my P4D on stock heatsink @1.5V, gaining 5 fps more in the first two tests but it throttled down reaching 75 degrees in third. Looks like i can't get past 9480 on P4 with boxed cooling :(

Thought I'd post my scores with my new beasties:

specs (in case you can't read the pic):

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.8GHz

Crossfired HD3870 @ 850/1251 MHz

that crossfire score is a tad low as compared to what I expected, I think component and ambient temps have a bit to do with that . . . further tweaking will commence this weekend (it'd help if I could run this damn DDR3 above 1600MHz!!).

Oh My, imperial!

I'm expecting GREAT things from you in the near future...

Congrats on the new toys!

thanks! Hell, I had enough for a 3870x2, but after the HD4000 announcements, I had decided to wait for 4870x2 . . . then this deal came along, and hell, I couldn't pass up 2 HD3870 OC editions at $260 for the pair :D

and I still have half the savings left that will eventually go towards a 4870x2 later this year, and a new PSU. Crossfire X all the way! :rockout:

Still a little dissappointed at that 3m06 score at those speeds . . . needs more tweaking. <<I wonder what speeds I can get these 3870s to on their stock coolers . . >>

Planning liquid cooling for the CPU next month, so I'll be able to get this quad over 4GHz, and that'll drop ambient temps as well. Now if only I could get this DDR3 to accept speeds over 1600MHz, I'll be happy.

That, and if winter would hurry up and roll back around!

Looking at these screenshots... many of you guys are running XP and not Vista. Any particular reason any of you are not running Vista?

Xp yields better 3dMark06 scores and it works better with crossfire. At least up to the 8.4 cats.

vista sucks as far as audio is concerned - I like my audio hardware acceleration too much to give it up, and XP's ability to properly support it.

That, and I don't own a DX10 capable game that I feel is worth my time. Only DX10 game I own is Crysis.

hmmm . . . flashed both cards to 850/1251, although they bump themself back to 837 core. Did this because it seemed that in Crossfire, only one card was running at 850/1251, while the other was running at stock 800/1170 . . . this 3m06 score kinda confirms that in my mind:

I was shooting for a 4GHz run, but couldn't boot to the desktop :ohwell: This rig would get as far as the bootup screen before crashing, and further vcore adjustment would net me a POST message "CPU overvoltage error" . . . meaning I might have to vmod this board to be able to reach 4GHz, and I'll defi need a better cooling solution on top of that.

But, there is hope for 4GHz, as the system was stable at 450MHz BUS at x8 multi:

. . . stable enough to even make a 3m06 run - but scored very high 17000 at the lower CPU speed. I wonder, though, if these cards are already peforming 100% and are just scaling with the CPU . . . would make sense with both cards running PCIEx16 2.0 . . . any thoughts?

vista sucks as far as audio is concerned - I like my audio hardware acceleration too much to give it up, and XP's ability to properly support it.

Nah, the CPU Overvolt error is just a warning mechanism built it. It just throws that error when you get above a certain voltage, period. Mine happens above 1.6V actual. You can get rid of that message by going to the Hardware Monitor page in your bios, going down to the cpu voltage, selecting it, and set it to ignored. All apps will still read the voltage an everything, it just gets rid of bios monitoring.

thanks, I'll check that out later, as I haven't ventured into hardware management except to turn Q-Fan and that crap off.

If that's the case, I might just be able to get the CPU to slap 4GHz on air, at the very least boot to the desktop. Temps permitting, of course . . .

still, though, 3.8GHz at 425 BUS so far ain't bad, 3.6GHz at 450 BUS is decent as well - I'll be happy as hell if she will run 4GHz at 450 BUS. I figure I'm still quite away from hitting the limits of this proc . . . I just need better cooling (next month). :D
