8.7 beta drivers = Not worth it.

Lost about 20 points in 3d06 with the 4870 over the hotfix drivers, and the beta drivers wouldn't install with crossfire.

Does Vista need net frameworks? If so, try reinstalling that first before formatting

Believe me, I KNOW how to uninstall drivers correctly.

I know my registry inside and out too. I traced the problem to the 8.7 betas, screwing up on the Microsoft Visual c++ install, leading into a bad driver install. I managed to fix the problem. After it was fixed, I said screw it and popped my Vista 64 disk in. I like re-installing every three months or so, and it was time.

if you use the CCC fan fix then your profile will automatically load on boot. mine does, at least

I can kinda understand that,windows does tend to acrue a lot of crap over time.Personally i run it for as long as i can before i have to reinstall.

My friend just bought a 4850, got it today and after installing the 8.6 hotfix, it still says he's on the 8.5's. Is the driver version number in CCC 8.501?

8.501.1-etc.. is the driver version for cat 8.6

I would avoid that beta 8.7 like the plague. At this point none of those retarded betas are getting on my machine. I finally don't have to install one card at a time or take them out & I would like to keep it that way

Wahooo my 4870 just got here. I have been playing with it and im surprised by the performance. Really surprised i wasnt expecting much gains over my CrossfireX setup but alas.

I have been playing with the Fan hack using the xml files and while it is working, i want to have 2 profiles so that i can go back to 25% of fan speed when i go to sleep.

I made another profile and changed the values like so:

<Property name="FanSpeedAlgorithm" value="Automatic" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="FanSpeedRPMTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="0" />
</Feature>
<Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="25" />
</Feature>

For some reason when i activate this profile, the Fan kicks to 84% and then it goes to 0%, what did i do wrong, keep in my mind that my other profile that sets the fan to 65% IS WORKING.

Just finished messing with my 4850....I could get it to 710MHz core, but anything higher started to artifact a little once it hit 70c. When I get my new cooler, 720+ should be good at stock voltage. I ran 3Dmark06 at 720/1000 and go around 12.9K....I got 12.6K at 700/1000. I'm going to settle at 700 with CCC until new cooler, and software.

My guess is his version of CCC allows over 700. Not sure why the versions would vary...CD Drivers maybe? Does your CCC allow you to do 1200 mem ?
