Will this fit w/no problem in a P18x?
I'm currently using a Tuniq Tower & if I read correctly, this is about 1/8" taller. I believe the Tuniq is a little too tall for my case after seeing some smooshed fins at the top of the cooler.
Also, does this thing need lapped? What TIM are you guys using w/this cooler & how are you applying it?
Thanks!

I just ordered the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 Rifle CPU Cooler from Newegg for $26.99 + 5.84 S/H (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233003). That's pretty much the same deal I got on my current AC Freezer 7 Pro when I built my current rig a year ago. From what I've read it's a great cooler, and I have a good use for my AC cooler when it's replaced (gets to replace a Zalman 7700AL-Cu in my old prescott P4630 3.0 OC'd to 3.55 rig that my G/F uses/games on).

I look forward to using it, and hope it doesn't hog too much space over the DIMMS as I still want to use my Corsair Airflow to keep my RAM cool, but I do use DIMMS 2/4 to keep spacing better. Going from a 92mm fan 3-pipe to a 120mm 3-pipe I know will make a difference and I've been curious as to the performace of the direct heat pipe on CPU technology. My AC cooler is keeping my OC'd C2D pretty cool considering, but I do wanna go further where it fails, maybe this can help me get there!

If anyone has before and after results, you should post em! I will (if this thread is still alive when I install it, or I will start a new thread), and hopefully it's for the better!

:toast:

P.S. Also ordered some AC MX-2 to try out in place of my trust old AS5 tube that I've used for the last 2-3 years (small tube at that!). Any suggestions or tips/tricks to applying to this in comparison to a regular CPU cooler? I just installed my AC Freezer 7 Pro w/AS 5 using Arctic Silver's instructions for Intel Dual core install instructions for a bead down the center of CPU IHS.

As for before and afters
I put it in another thread because of the fact that trog was being something else...

When I put on my TIM all I did was put the dab on the cpu, and then when I connected the heatsink and wobbled it a little from side to side... And that was it.

I've seen a big difference in it all ready, but I just have to probably tonight go and oc my baby even more! 18c drop on load... can't beat that

Will this fit w/no problem in a P18x?

Thanks!

If your using the Tuniq tower and the fins are bending at the top, then it is to big... its most likely just bowing the side panel and going from there. The xigmatek fit right into a old server case. and I can't say much about mine, since its a cosmos...
I don't know if I would say good lap because of the fact it has the heat pipes exposed. I'd do it any other time, but I'm ify on that sort of thing... and TIM I used Mx-2 for the simple fact it doesn't have silver metal flaxes like artic silver does. And just put the heatsink on, wobble it around a min, and then use the pins to close it down.

Funny thing you should ask TRT... here's a little something for ya.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=65000

That gives me something to ponder. There is something cool about this beast, you have to admit, if you have never held one in your hand your missing something. , and it's a limited run but I might cancel it.

I was thinking of grabbing a True.. But, I wanted to try that Xig. The True is a lot thinner then my Xig, but I don't think you be putting a super thick 38mm fan on it.. I mean, I don't even think its that size.. It's wider then the Kaze, and I just feel it's way bigger in size. I believe you'll be able to get that to fit! Oh, It's beautiful my man!

it says it's only 120 mm tall corerect? I removed my side fan 250mm because the true won't fit. This would fit however. FYI a True is 160mm tall. Plus because it's the limited black edition with dual fan clips it's about 70.00

My deltas was 127mmx38mm... But as you saw, it takes up one of my ramsinks as it is...

Edit: the new Xigmatek is a lot bigger in size then the TRUE. Just look at the pictures in the case..

I had a TRUE before I bought this case and went to my currenty Zerotherm UFO cooler because of height issues. The UFO is good but once you turn it's jet engine fan to low it's only average cooler . The TRUE on the other hand almost needs hardly any fan at all , as a matter of fact it's so good adding a second 120mm fan only drops the temp 1 degree over a single 54cf fan and it's very quiet.

not so sure about that a true is giant

compare the size

Xigmatek
Dimension: 120 x 120 x 25mm (W x H x D) ‧ 660g (w/fan)

Thermalright Ultra extreme
Weight: 790g (without fan) with fan it's about 900 grams I would say.
Size: D 63.44mm (W) x 132mm (H) x 160.5mm

still the TRUE is thinner than my current cooler so it should not hit my ram I hope

ZEROtherm Nirvana NV120 Premium Specifications

Dimensions W128 X D 95 X H 150 mm (5.04 X 3.74 X 5.83 inch)
Weight 638g (Without Components)

I wasn't revering it as a "GIANT" giant... lol.. I was meaning the fact that the cooler is one of the best out there. The Xigmatek is a Huge cooler!

I cannot use the pushpins. One of the pushpin metal arm hit the oversized CPU-holding mechanism on my LGA775 mobo. I didn't realize this at first, so I forced it in, which caused a big bulge on the back of the mobo. For reference, the stock cooler is better designed and will fit easily. I heard that you can buy a bracket for this cooler, so could anyone please tell me where to?

Yeah, it's a pain in the left cheek to put it in, and if you leave the cooler there for to long, you have a bow of the board that is just plain crazy.. But, fear not, here is the link for you. It's a great buy to add with it. One of my favorite coolers I've ever had. :toast:
