Microsoft said on Monday that it was willing to reopen talks on a "major transaction" with Yahoo if the Internet giant replaces its board of directors. Microsoft confirmed comments from corporate raider Carl Icahn about talks that could lead to a new takeover bid if Yahoo replaces its board of directors next month.

"We confirm ... that after the shareholder election Microsoft would be interested in discussing with a new board a major transaction with Yahoo, such as either a transaction to purchase the 'Search' function with large financial guarantees or, in the alternative, purchasing the whole company," Microsoft said in a statement. The software giant said "it would be premature to discuss at this time important details such as the price or other terms of a possible transaction." They added: "We respect the right of Yahoo's shareholders to determine the destiny of their company, and we do not intend to engage in ongoing commentary on these issues in advance of Yahoo's shareholder meeting."

Some reports said Yahoo is seeking other alliances to fend of a bid from Microsoft, including a tie-up with AOL, a unit of Time Warner.

This was interesting when the idea of MS and Yahoo getting together first surfaced, but I honestly don't care any more. It's been beat to death in the media.

No offense, BTA. It is news, after all. :toast:

We have to keep track of every development in this, even though I admit it's become a never ending saga....just so when something half-sensational falls out, in my post then, I could draw a milestone chart saying.."we reported this, and this , and then this happed" where each "this" will be hyperlinked. ok that was funny.

LOL ... that was funny.
Especially the part about "half sensational".
I'm not sure I would use the word interesting, let alone sensational. :D

Gotta love internet drama. Honestly, I dont care who gets what. IF MSN wants them bad enough, theyll get them. If they dont, then they wont. I wouldnt want Google to gobble them up. Sure, Google is the best IMHO, but they dont need to grab onto more stuff.

Here is a news headline that would be interesting ...

Microsoft buys Yahoo. Internet traffic to news sites drops 35% because no one gives a crap

I don't use Yahoo for anything so while it is mildly interesting from a financial standpoint, it is of little other interest to me.

LMAO

News is news, if it happens then we 'need' to know about it. But really, M$ can buy Yahoo & hell can freeze over & no one will still give a damn. What has the digital lifestyle turned us into

I think when Google looked into it the government basically told them it wasn't going to happen. Kinda like when MS tried to buy 51% (or something like that) of Apple. The government said no due to the lack of any other real competition.
Kinda ironic. The government said MSN/Hotmail wasn't competition for Yahoo or Google, lol.
