Buffalo to Release New 2.5'' SSDs

Buffalo Technology is said to be readying three models of 2.5 inch solid state drives for release later this month. The drives are part of the SHD-NSUM series. They are made of multi-level cell (MLC) NAND flash design. It uses the standard SATA II interface and weighs 70 grams. The three models would come out in capacities of 30, 60 and 120 GB. It features a built that allows use both inside a notebook or PC and outside it. Apart from the standard SATA power and data connectors, there is a USB connection provided so that users could connect the drive directly using a USB cable that takes care of data and power. Such a feature was also seen with OCZ Core V2 series. The 30, 60 and 120 GB models are to be priced in Japan at about $153, $305 and $459 respectively.

sweet, the 120GB one would be nice for my drive bay as i can port it inside my laptop and give it away for access over usb :laugh:

tisk tisk, these are really nice but I still cant justify the price over regular hard drives.

SSD's are not for storage. They are for the OS and the essential/taxing programs you choose to run. Price/performance, they do compare, but their "performance" is in latency, read/write bandwidth, etc. and not in storage amount.

I am aware of this. They are still pricey though.

Buffalo Tech's customer support is the worst Ive ever experienced.

I agree with jbunch. I just don't think the additional performance is worth the cost for most situations, and especially not for the average user. The only reason I'd ever use one is for a 100% noiseless system, and only if I had really high-end recording equipment and mics.

It would be nice if they got their normal external drives to last longer than 8 months before releasing new tech,they havnt mastered the old tech yet lol
