Since Ivy Bridge is still a few months away from release, Intel has decided to keep itself busy by sealing the fate of a bunch of older processors including the Core i7-930, i7-950, i7-960, i7-980 and i7-990X which are part of the LGA1366 platform, and the LGA1156-compatible Pentium G6950, G6960 and Core i3-540, i5-650, i5-660, i5-670, i5-680, i7-860 and i7-870.

These 45nm and 32nm CPUs are set to be available for further orders until June 29, 2012, and will continue to ship either until supplies are depleted (for the boxed versions) or until December 7th, 2012 (for the tray SKUs). As always, it's onwards and upwards.

1366 was also one of the best platforms I've ever used, sad to say I felt much more comfortable with it compared to my current SB setup.

I like the 1366 platform. My i7-970 has plenty of horsepower for what I use it for. I think I'm going to skip SB/IB.

Still running an i7-870 @ 3.8Ghz and currently looking for an 1156 Motherboard with Sata 6g to futureproof. Like Sasqui said, it's the end of an era!

Big welcome to Christian_25H!

This seems really quick to me. Am I crazy for thinking that? LGA775 was around for a very long time, now they've got all these new socket types, and 1366 seems to me one of the most successful.

So why did 775 stick around for so long and 1366 get rushed off?

So why did 775 stick around for so long and 1366 get rushed off?

Maybe they were taunting AMD.

After all... How long did it take for AMD to come up with a CPU that was equal to a C2D or C2Q even - that took them a while and when AMD came out with something new that was similar in performance, Intel was like "TROLOLOLOL INB4U" and released their next generation and the generation after that so that AMD could really see how far behind they were in terms of where they stood.

Its like the old trick of dangling a carrot in front of a horse - in this case, AMD has already realised it will never get the carrot again and has resigned itself to the fact it will spend the rest of its remaining life locked in a field an grazing slowly rather then in the front running for its life and leading the pack.

I missed the 1336/1156 generation. However I am currently on 1155 and I love it. I used to be mainly an AMD guy but when I have a CPU that can reach 4.8ghz on air with no issues at all I think its time jump ship for good. Especially with AMD bowing out of the high end race for a while.

I like my i7. It was my first intel in almost a decade. I still really like it though. Plenty of juice and enough power to do pretty much anything I need it to. In fact, it's more than enough. However, I'm planning on selling mine soon (the whole rig). I loved the fact that I could run SLI or CFX natively and not have to hack anything to make it work. LOVE the versatility.

Going to go back to my AMD until Ivy bridge comes out and SB drops in price, then I'll get a sandy. :p

Long live to LGA775! Which is nothing more than a minion when compared to LGA1366, in fact; long live to both platforms! XD

I agree ! There isn't a thing to date that my system can not handle at all ! I do not care about benchmarks any more as well I can not keep up with the Jone's any way .

On the other hand what I do see is Intel is leaping forward much faster than AMD and that is good in a sense and bad in as well . Comp is the key to keeping prices lower and this is not happening at least from what I am seeing .
