So, why don't they stick a quality fan in the PSU's in the first palce and no one would even care between fan and fanless modes if it's already so silent you can't even hear it...

Exactly, my HX850 is pretty darn quiet already. I believe Corsair uses pretty decent fans already, and their PSUs are generally next to silent under idle loads.

lso, something which no one is considering, is that mechanical devices tend to seize up if standing still for a long time. Therefore, one can imagine the scenario where the fan doesn't come on for a whole year.

If Corsair sets it up like most other PSUs that shut the fan off the fan will still spin up for at least a second every time the computer is powered on.

That's a good point and should mitigate this.

I see that we have the same PSU. I sense a conspiracy. :wtf:

The HX850? I actually have 3, Rigs 1, 2, and 4 are powered by HX850s.

And before anyone says "OMG! You idiot! You don't need an HX850 for a GT240 and a Celeron!" Rig 2 used to have a X3370 and Dual-GTX460s before I downgraded it to fund some other projects. I kept the HX850 just in case I ever wanted to upgrade it again.

Ok, this is a definite conspiracy by the CIA... :wtf:

But seriously, I agree that you can't have too much power. These babies will run totally unstressed with the load you're putting on them and that's really important for reliability. And of course, you've got the watts when you upgrade those systems again with something more power hungry. :)

Posting to add to the conspiracy- I've got an HX850 too (main rig in my specs) ;)

On topic- waiting on some reviews and final pricing for these new psu's.
