Sapphire's Radeon HD 7990 Atomic made its first appearance at Computex, early last month. While launch of the card itself is less than a few weeks away, pictures of its PCB and cooling solution made it to the web. Its PCB, pictured below, features a pair of 28 nm "Tahiti XT2" GPUs, a total of 6 GB of GDDR5 memory, and a PLX PEX8747 PCI-Express gen 3.0 x48 bridge chip, powered by a gargantuan 18-phase VRM that draws power from three 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors.

Each GPU system hence gets a 6+2+1 phase power supply (Vcc+VDDCI+MVDD). The Vcc phases appear to consist of two 50A chokes per phase, and driver-MOSFETs; while the ancillary phases use more conventional LFPAK MOSFETs. Tantalum capacitors handle most electricals on this 12-layer PCB. The PCB features two sets of video BIOS for each GPU. Display outputs include six mini-DisplayPort connectors. The card can pair with any other Radeon HD 7900 series card using CrossFireX.

Moving on, the cooling solution of the Radeon HD 7990 Atomic consists of an almost DIY-looking liquid cooling loop, consisting on a full-coverage block, a 120 x 240 mm radiator, and a reservoir+pump with coolant ports. A pair of 120 mm, 1,200 RPM fans are included with the radiator.

Only video connection is 6 mini display ports? That's a boner killer.

Smart move ! nice :):rockout: it would be nice if all cards cod be made in this way! :respect:
No fat !:D

Wouldn't want a card that been announced to go EOL after 2 months already.

Good luck with driver support.

It's not a reference design. As for drivers, known issues aside, it only needs crossfire drivers. It is after all only two 7970's on a stick. There isn't an EOL issue with this (or in fact the reference cards) - the software support is there.

On that note. You'd think Sapphire would wait for the end of July driver update from AMD before releasing? Show the card in a good light?

Yeah, what Svarog said.

am i the only one who thinks the tubes need to be longer to and from the card?

only it looks like you will need to put the rad in the base of the case and not many support a 240 rad there :|

its one way to get rid of stock i guess

Everyone worried about EOL.... Guess what people, when hardware goes EOL, it still works (imagine that). All EOL means is they aren't producing it anymore.

Love the fact they photoshopped out the PCI-E on the actual card. I can only assume this drawing is a mockup, because sane people with money will build a custom loop so they can put the components wherever they like, and not be confined to the length of the tubing.
I'm curious as to why they chose to make the tubes come from the same side of the GPU instead of one above and one below, like a normal W/C GPU block. Just makes it more difficult to manage.

Brilliant card killed by poor drivers.

Why is that? I've been buying Sapphire since the 3870x2 days and no issues were had :O

Possibly a pretty sweet card if AMD's driver fixes come through for CF stuttering.

But I can't help feeling that this is too little, too late. I'm guessing this thing will be priced in 780 SLI territory and I just don't imagine it being competitive, even with the value of the H2O stuff factored in.

Warranty claim issues. Their cards are fine ,but if you happen to get a bad one, which happens with any brand....you may be in for a huge headache.

Because of some Dick head mod on the sapphire forum, called GreenGhecko. If you have a problem, which I did, And posted on the forum. He reckons Corsair PSU's are shit and goes on about it. He is a *ock *ucker and if that is who the company want to be their face of support then *uck them, hence I will not buy another Sapphire card.

I imagined, thanks for the feedback :)

I've never had an issue with them, I figure I have been lucky so far.

I never had any problems with warranty (2 dead cards)

Wow, no words can actually describe that type of person.

Seriously.

I can, A fucking Cocksucker, Hence I will not touch a Sapphire card ever again.

Feel free to edit the swearing out MODS, And I do apologize.

Dont worry, Sapphire quite blatantly distanced themselves from him and the forum he Mods, as they removed the forum link from their main site after allegations of his behaviour, then shortly put it back up again. He no longer speaks for them, just his own personal applebag self.

As a matter of fact, you'll find if you google Gr33n Gecko Sapphire, the records of him have mostly been removed, except for a few links to people complaining about him and his profile page.

It's a good thing they did, he must have damaged their customer reputation, and maybe lost some sales.
