White paper is not finished article. If a selected component isn't ready to be utilised, they may use an alternative, I.E. GDDR5X.
Besides, the top tier will probably still be using it, so it's erroneous to cast HBM as the memory of all Pascal cards. They could even keep it for the compute part only.
I mean, smartphones sometimes contain different chips despite being the same model. If advertised performance is delivered the internal hardware is actually irrelevant.
Edit: NV link won't be on mainstream desktop either, its for the compute cards.
